You think that's bad? I refunded Championship Riven because I wanted to try Elise on the first week she was released.

What about getting a refund after a certain amount of RP is spent? Like a reward system for spending money on the game.

Saianna17 votes

No. It should be fair for everyone.

Wrath of Zed3 votes

Well you could get the initial 3. Then like the original idea and get three every new season. And have the ones based on RP spent. To reward players that are more serious about the game.

Scarlet Firefly11 votes

Having money doesn't mean you are more serious than those who don't. There's a reason why the only RP-exclusive things you can buy are cosmetic items.

DarkFaun Fortes2 votes

true, but someone could easily abuse the ssystem and just save up all their refunds and just refund differant things each year and only had to have dropped money once. If it gose buy how much money u spend it would work better. (if you dont spend money, you dont need refunds!!!! you can allways get more IP)

It Hertz When IP3 votes

So leave the max capped at only 3 refunds at a time, and make the RP required to be spent to earn more higher. Like maybe 3k RP spent to earn one refund, or something.

Axests2 votes

u get 3 refunds a season on items purchased THAT season

Neo Cyrus29 votes

So long as the initial 3 (or something) are granted for everyone how is it not fair when the people who have bought RP have more things to potentially refund? Guy with 1 item gets 3 refunds vs guy with 500 gets 3 refunds. Yeah totally fair, you friggin hippy.

You're the same people who whined that there shouldn't be rewards for those who bought a lot of RP. Yeah, don't award the guys paying your server costs, be more of a mooch.

Saianna2 votes

Hmmm... Weird... Now when i look at @Snoneper post it has different meaning. I though he didn't want f2p players get any refunds. As long as everyone gets base 3 refunds, then any additional refunds after x RP spent is no problem for me.

As a proud spender of 5$ of RP, I agree.

I wouldn't mind 1 refund a season but even that's too much for Rito. They'll lose out on tha munnies (Multi million dollar company lawl..selfish)

Father Cthulhu7 votes

The thing is, they won't. You already handed over money for the RP, and you get RP back. They keep the money. They loose nothing.

Narasimha4 votes

No, they do lose something, in that they lose your potential spending. If you could keep 'trading' in stuff, then you have very little incentive to go and buy new things. 1 refund a season is perfect.

Father Cthulhu2 votes

I wasn't opposed to your idea of 1 refund per season, just that they loose a whole not.

Izbiz14 votes

I just want a 1 game window for a refund at all times. Just one game.

I can do all the research I want, but sometimes a skin just doesn't "feel" right until you get your hands on it.

I'd be perfectly happy if your 1 game HAD to be a custom game.

SmknWdl4 votes

i think more like a demo testing ground (you cant play with or against anything except one bot to fight (an intermediate of the champion with the basic skin) and then you can swap skins while playing and such, just to see how it looks.

ShaftyMegee1 votes

You know you can use any skin on the PBE for just one ip each right?

hørnet4 votes

Not everyone has access to PBE

djjomon11 votes

The only refunds I'd want to use are on old skins, if anything. I got Cowgirl Miss Fortune long before Arcade came out, now I never see myself using Cowgirl. Or I'd refund Officer Caitlyn and get Headhunter. But it was a lot longer than 90 days ago

CubedJustice2 votes

Exactly. I got Jurassic Cho'Gath, then I got mystery gifted Gentleman. I won't ever use Jurassic, now.

Father Cthulhu5 votes

We deserve it. We already gave them our money when we used it for RP, so it's not even an actual refund. They loose no money from it, we just swap our in-game currency around a little. There's literally no reason for them to be against this.

Synx73 votes

Ive used the 3 refunds on useless things 4 years ago I guess. Having no refund refresh each season kinda sucks. It's not like we don't buy champions or skins with the amount of RP/IP refunded anyway

GuiltyGecko3 votes

3 is way too much. You should only be given one every season if and only if you were on good behavior that season (meaning your account had no bans/chat restrictions.) That way, you get a reward for not being toxic.

SKOBODO1 votes

I like this. One per season is plenty for most people, and having it tied to good behavior would encourage not being toxic.

I feel it would be beneficial to both Riot and the playerbase if we had the option to rent champions or even skins for a limited duration at a smaller cost. Players low on IP or RP could have a chance to play even the shiniest champions for a few days/weeks, and Riot could benefit a lot from a potentially much larger influx of small payments (it would also act as an IP sink, which is a problem with the current economy). Since players would find out very quickly if they like a champion or not, they could then purchase the champion permanently by paying the difference, or just abandon them completely at the end of the duration, so we wouldn't end up in the current situation where players can only make permanent, and much more expensive choices.

Use the PBE (Public Testing Environment). It's a separate client download that allows players to beta test the content not yet released on live servers. Skins and Champions are free for everybody on there.

Teridax682 votes

I'm talking about a business model for League on live. The PBE is a testing environment that makes content freely available to everyone there so they can check for bugs and give feedback, whereas I'm proposing an alternative to the current refund system that would allow for any user to try champions out temporarily for a small cost. The problem with purchases in League is that they're often costly (6300 IP takes a little while to build up) and irreversible, which means it's impossible to go back on a decision after spending a ton of currency on a champion you don't like. Letting players try champions out temporarily at a much smaller fee would eliminate the need for a refund system, since anyone unsure of a champion could just take them for a spin before having to decide whether or not to pay the full price for unlocking them permanently.

CubedJustice2 votes

If you need to rent champions, why would you need an IP sink? We need an IP sink for people with eighty thousand IP saved up with no purpose.

Keisto2 votes

Unfortunately for your case, we as players aren't entitled to much more than this amazing free game offered by Riot Games. When the refunds came out a few years back, it was made very clear that there would be no more given out for any reason, so use them accordingly. Spending your money on a free game is fine and dandy, but once you start acting like the community deserves more than the abundance we already receive, there starts to become an issue. Regardless of the feedback you get on this post, or that which I get on this comment, the verdict of the refund will never change.

TL;DR: You aren't entitled to more free stuff by being "dedicated" to enjoying a free game.

HavelDaRock4 votes

bulllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll shiiiiiitttttt

Sorry, but this is not a free game in the way you're describing it, it may advertise that its free but I think we're all pretty aware that most people spend money on this game and its content because if we didn't you'd have to save somewhere around 1 mil ip (I think I saw someone on reddit did the math recently) to even afford all the champions. That's not even including rune pages, runes, possible names changes etc. So to say that we're not entitled to say "hey riot this 10$ I spent a while ago on useless skins.... I could be used on something better (in game of course)." or "Hey riot, I kinda refunded garen when I was level 3... because IP was scarce..." I think if anything guaranteeing a few refunds a season would encourage people to buy more. I know I personally have debated getting the Spirit Guard Udyr Skin, but I'm really afraid to drop the money for RP because I'm out of refunds and if end up not liking the skin? TOOOOOO BADDDDD because I refunded someone like tryndamere like almost 3 years ago because I never saw myself spending this much time and enjoyment in the game.

I don't know how long you've played league but in the almost 3 years I have, LOTS has changed in the game itself and in my habits, when I started playing I never thought I'd spend a dollar and now 3 years later and I've spent countless hours playing and have bought a sizable amount of RP and I would definitely contest that the refund system maybe needs some kind of overhaul or something.

Keisto1 votes

I've been playing since the end of season 1. At least there is a lesson to be learned here for you and many others, including myself: don't rush into situations and make rash decisions. In our case, they will not bring more refunds to the game, that's just a fact, and because of that we will reflect on this in future situations to not waste important real life equivalents of refund tokens.

I have spent over 3000 hours on League of Legends [Link: https://wastedonlol.com/na-AfroWaIrus/ ] which is almost double the time you've spent [Link: https://wastedonlol.com/na-Lolsgod/ ] while balancing highschool and college years of my life. This being said, I've never spent RP on champions and get by fine, with only 5 left to buy [Proof]. However I do buy RP, and I did waste most of my refunds on random shit, but that doesn't mean that Riot should account for my recklessness and they shouldn't for yours either. The refund system in itself was brought into the game as a gift to the players, 3 refunds was insane when it came out and people were incredibly happy. A gift that is now being put into question as "not enough" and that we deserve more for putting time into your game and voluntarily putting money into cosmetic purchases.

There is a good expression that everyone knows: Don't bite the hand that feeds you. And that's exactly what goes on in some of these forums, but nothing changes from Riot and for good reason. Just enjoy the game for what it is.

Well that's the thing, we feed riot. They don't feed us. We buy RP, we play the game, we hype up and create the LCS players, we create the meta. Hell we even create some of the items, champions and skin concepts.

To say that we can't complain and we we should deal with it because Riot is the hand that feeds is inherently false. What's Riot going to do? If I complain will they ban me? If that runs around the internet nothing good would come of it. Are they going to close down? Yeah-fucking-right this is the highest grossing game company right now, they have no reason to be afraid of complaining on a forum.

Also things people complain about do get changed, why do you think we have report a bug? Or why do think the FOTM champs often get nerfed? Because people complain. If Riot really didn't listen the fanbases' complaints then why did URF come back?

I mean come on man, you can't bold-faced say that riot doesn't respond to the communities complaints, just read the Chroma skins post where riot and community members actively communicated about how they may reward or price the packs.

The reason you have refunds: To exchange a mistake with the purchase of a skin, champ, or ward skin that you may not have liked after you have used it

The reason you don't have unlimited refunds: To keep players from redeeming a skin or champ over and over again so that you do not have to actually spend that much money to get them

BTW, refunding a skin or champ does not lose Riot money. They make money the moment you purchase RP, not when buying a skin or champ

Jingerbeardman2 votes

One of the biggest reasons you have limited refunds is because they dont want players simply flip flopping on their skins/content. By this I mean buy a skin for a champ they like only to find another champ they like better they want a skin for so they refund the skin for the old champ to get a skin for their new champ. then a few weeks down the line the same person finds yet another new champ they like and want a skin for them so they refund the skin for their old champ and buy one for their new champ. Rinse and repeat.

or buy a champ with rp, play that champ until you have enough IP to pick them up that way refund the purchase to get your RP back and do it again for another champion.

It just isnt a sound business practice to give renewing refunds on digital content. You are warned when you go to use them that you only get 3... if you foolishly squandered them, well you were warned so it is on you for wasting them.

If people were given 1 per season this wouldn't enable the flip flopping that you're talking about. You can do it once per year, that's it.

Jingerbeardman2 votes

it is still a potential loss of revenue. the refunds are meant to be if some freak mistake happens like hitting the rp button instead of the ip button or your little bro or sis hoping on while you were in the bathroom and got something cause it looked cool. It isnt meant to be a, I bought this but after trying it out some wanted this kind of thing.

r11na3 votes

Refunds are meant to be for purchases that you regret or that weren't what you expected.** Properly done**, refunds are actually a gain in revenue because the customer is more inclined to buy something if they know that should it not be what they expected they don't lose all their money.

One per season would be good, or also refunds based on how much RP you buy is a another good alternative.

It is even more important in League because purchased things like champions can be changed drastically. I've bought all the skins for my favourite 2 champions Yasuo and Hecarim. If suddenly Riot guts these champs (Veigar , Kassadin says hi) I would probably be extremely pissed and never buy skins again. Yasuo is probably safe because I started playing him after he got gutted but Hecarim is FoTM atm so that means nerf time.

I wasted my refunds early on in my account because while I was researching a champion to main I found an outdated guides to champions that listed their skills before they were nerfed or changed majorly. I insta bought Yasuo and Lucian and Kassadin with RP and was confused as to why Lucian wasn't removing slows when I dashed, or why yasuo didn't get 4 stacks of his dash and why he didn't generate extra flow with windwall, everyone just seemed so much weaker than the guide made them seem. I later found out that he had been nerfed repeatedly since that guide was written. Same thing with Yasuo nerfed ridiculously since release but I kept him because he was lots of fun. We all know what happened to Kassadin... Also I bought Poppy skins as she was the first champ I decided to main, but when I found out she was going to be reworked I decided to drop her and refund the skins.

Coming from dota I wasn't used to champions being nerfed so drastically in such a short time frame. Some of my favourite Heroes in dota have remained essentially unchanged in their playstyle for years with only minor tweaks to their numbers/stats. But not literally having things completely removed or reworked, so guides don't become outdated quickly. Not saying this is a better, just that it resulted in me burning through my refunds as I learned the hard way that I need to make sure before I buy any champion In League:

  1. I make sure the guide is for the current season and preferably the current patch.
  2. Read the change log for the champion to make sure they haven't been nerfed recently
  3. Make sure they aren't currently Flavour of the Month which means they are about to be immediately nerfed (unless ofc they are a part of a special group Leblanc Riven Zed Jinx LeeSin LeeSin LeeSin LeeSin LeeSin LeeSin that have Immunity to Riot Gutting)
  4. Make sure they are not about to be reworked (Started maining Poppy only to find out she was about to be completely changed)

Sure I know all of this now, but by that time I've already blown my 3 refunds :(

DoFr, if you look through here and see ideas you like- you could add them to the OP message up there so people can see the suggestions. It would make the thread look slightly more legit than just one sentence.

while i do like some of the ideas here, but i'd like my messege to be clear and simple, no complications, no percentages of happy customers (this is scarasim of winrates in every other thread) no nothing

this aimed to let riot know what WE as a playbase want, there's no need to use anything Fancy when you're telling the Truth

Eh, fair enough, simple and clean is sometimes the best way to go.
