Dont complain because this isnt a Q.Q thread, I am just wondering who counters him. I am a nasus main and blind picked him into ryze, and i was looking around and saw that the lane is fairly even. from level one he had very high poke, and didnt draw minion agro because he wouldnt aa, just Q. It didnt get better. At level 6, i tried to all in him at about half (he was 90%) under MY turret. We traded kills, and after that it was destruction. one vi gank, and I died and lost turret. (our trund never ganked). he was also up about 15 farm at 10 mins. How do i lane vs ryze as nasus?

Ryze is really hard to beat by yourself. You really gotta ask for gank, especially since he had no mobility, just running, and nasus counters that. Asides from ganks, you have to toughen through the bullying till you get enough Q stack to kill him. That's normally around level 8-11, if you both are at full hp

As a fellow Nasus main, I feel you bro.

Ryze has no escapes but is an amazing duelist, especially against nasus who has a hard time getting within range of ryze.

As Ryze has no escapes, you need your jungler ganking your lane. A lot. If you are playing Nasus specifically then max your Wither before your Spirit Fire (though still after Q and Ult of course) so he has a very low chance of escaping those ganks.

Ryze pre-6 has REALLY poor waveclear, so constantly shoving the lane or playing champions with good early game waveclear will cause Ryze to miss loads of early CS, although watch for ganks. An early item 3211 is 100% worth because of the unique passive it gives largely mitigates 150 damage of every few Q ryze throws at you. . . . . Specific champions who counter him include: Jayce good poke, can also close distance and stick pretty well to ryze. If you can pull off insec hammer stance Q + E combos then Ryze is almost sure to die in a gank. Heimerdinger tons of waveclear and poke, but little sticking power. Overall extremely easy lane for the stronger donger. Yorick pretty weak in the meta right now because of his ult with no strong AD person on your team makes it pretty useless, but has good sustain against ryze, good duelist, good waveclear, long range poke, also can permaslow in ganks and great at denying Rod of Ages early game. XinZhao get level 2 and proceed to Ctrl + Alt + Delete Ryze. Maokai Amazing follow up on those jungler ganks to kill Ryze, great waveclear, pretty good poke with Saplings, great sticking power. Maokai's passive is extremely useful because Ryze is a spell spam champ he quickly builds up those stacks so you basically get free sustain. Also that spell spam increase's maokai's activate ult damage as it draws damage from nearby spell casts. Gragas also a solid counter with poke, sustain, and good gank follow ups.

but overall the best counter to Ryze really is asking your jungler to gank. . . . . side note: Ryze currently has nerfs on the PBE, if they haven't been removed at this point in the cycle chances are they will probably make it to next patch, but no Garen tees.

Overload (Q) damage reduced to 40/60/80/100/120 from 60/85/110/135/160.

That's 20 less damage at level 1 and 30 less damage at level 5! yay!

Nasus does not do well against Ryze, especially since spells don't aggro minions, so you can maintain a freeze while still harassing Nasus heavily. Basically, as Nasus you just have to try to get whatever farm you can, buy MR & Health & use tp back to lane whenever you can. Eventually, you can outscale Ryze huge item scaling with your Q stacks... it just takes a long fkn time. You do have kill potential as Nasus at level 6 if you can force an all in with Ghost + Ult, given you have enough Q stacks.

Ryze is literally one of nasus's easiest matchups. He will go oom trying to damage you, then when he has no mana left, you just continue farming like hes not even there.

On top of which, he has no mobility aside from the ms boost on his ult, which is largely irrelevant because if your jungler ganks, a wither to the face is the first thing ryze is gonna get, negating most of the additionnal movement speed, and resulting in a dead ryze most of the time, or at the very least a blown flash.

Ryze is pretty much never getting ignite, which is perfect for you.

If he isnt even abusing his range by autoing every single time you try to last hit a minion, it gets even easier.

Honestly, im thinking your runes/masteries or build must have been horribly wrong in that game. Here is what i use.

Masteries : 4/26, taking sorcery for the 5% cdr to complement 5% cdr from runes (quints) taking as much mr from the defensive tree as possible ( i have a dedicated anti-ap mastery page)

Runes : marks can be whatever you want, armor seals (because autos) and mr glyphs. Against ap tops i have a runepage with 2 cdr quints and an mr quint

Build order : against ap toplaners, you want to rush negatron cloak and spectral cowl before you get any cdr items. The problem with kindlegem is it wont provide any defensive stats. Once you have spectral cowl, ryze wont be doing much damage to you and you can just get cdr.

As for starting items, i favor doran's shield against ranged champs, and ryze is no exception. Flask is also very good at sustaining if you dont feel comfortable with only one pot. Null-magic mantle would be ideal against any ap who cant get autos off (think melee champs like cho'gath, akali, etc.).

Past a certain point (levels 9-11, with decent stacks), ryze is just dog food. yes ryze scales decenttly, but it doesnt compare to a nasus who has been farming more or less freely for most of the laning phase. I personnally havent lost lane against ryze in a long time.

Rush an early spirit visage, maybe Merc treads afterwards or go for a Locket. Just concentrate on not falling behind to much and getting some stacks for late game.

Mundo10/26/2014, 3:58:31 PM1 votes

If its top play Mundo with Magic penetration runes 0-30-0 [with no points on the shield/jg effects]. -Play passive and farm from distance with Q. Max Q first, level E second but max it 3rd. Max W second but get it 4th. -Get Spirit Visage + Mercury Treads. -Once you get both these items, land a cleaver on Ryze, if you landed the cleaver turn on Burning Agony and run to him.. throw another.. Use ult and keep on going. He wont be able to burst you down but you will destroy him.

-If Ryze has ignite becareful but most the time Mundo and Ryze both run TP. -Use TP for top dont worry about team until you atleast get afew kills on Ryze and possbily the tower before you worry about team. -Once you hit level 6 if you recall to base, ask your jungler to go to dragon, buy a Pink, tank the dragon, recall then TP back top.

dont go for that 1 cs because he will prison guard u and burst u.

stop being greedy.

id rather u go 0-0-0 and miss half cs than go 0-5-0 trying to cs and get harassed same time.

learn 2 play.

My first ban every ranked game. There is simply no justification for him to be able to do so much damage without building any AP other than a Blasting Wand for Rod of Ages. Since he gets damage from building mana he essentially becomes a resourceless champion after a couple of backs.

The only time I've had success against him is by playing Rengar or Xin Zhao with ignite and getting him to waste his snare then jumping on him and dumpstering him then pushing the wave into his tower but its a risky strategy which can cost you your lane if the Ryze at least has a competent jungler.

Another thing you can do is build a Spectre's Cowl which gives you MR and HP and heals you every time Ryze nukes you but this is not a solution either since Ryze will just free farm until he can just faceroll onto your ADC in a late game team fight and blast them into oblivion.

Seriously just ban him until he is fixed. Especially if you are playing in Bronze or Silver since even a monkey could play Ryze and do well.

Buy MR quints, profit.

Drunk Rummate10/27/2014, 2:01:29 PM1 votes

kog maw shits on him. pop your W and watch him melt from outside of his max range.

in lane i usually pick riven and E his harass and all in him level 2 or 3. nidalee is also pretty good against him. he can't afford to trade autos with her since she heals up the harass. maokai is also very good since he has sustain and an unstoppable gapcloser with damage.

or you could be a jerk and play GP as others have suggested. take all crit runes and you get like 14% chance to win lane at level 1 every time you hit him with a parlay

FantasySniper10/27/2014, 2:28:43 PM1 votes

item 1054 is going to start blocking single-target spells. It'll be significantly easier to deal with him.

Solidair310/26/2014, 4:24:18 AM1 votes

Karma is decent against him

Kuroi8610/26/2014, 4:36:25 AM1 votes

As Nasus, hang back under turret and last hit with Q as best you can, buils MR as fast as you can. Focus on late game, you'll lose lane unless your jungle camps you so don't worry about that, just farm as fast as you can, stack Q as high as possible and get ready for a long haul, late game you'll outscale him.

What Is Smite10/26/2014, 4:42:36 AM1 votes

Well playing against Ryze's in general, his early is very very weak if you can harass him harder than he can do to you then the lane is yours once 6. I main Fiora and whenever I get counter-picked I summarize the kit of the enemy champion see where his strengths and weaknesses are and abuse those weaknesses when I can to obtain the upper hand for the rest of the laning phase.

cshakes10/26/2014, 1:59:46 PM1 votes

Darius' pull outranges Ryze. Cassiopeia is also good against Ryze apparently.

Earl Eulrich10/26/2014, 2:41:22 PM1 votes

Nasus counters him fairly well...just get an SV first and just keep farming, he shouldn´t be able to kill you before he´s oom if you just keep on farming...and if he pushes out too far, just wither him and hunt him down, your ult beats his by a lot in terms of duelling.
