[Looking for Sympathy / Explanation] Provisional cue was not what I had expected

I admit it. I started Ranked last year as soon as I hit 30. I wasn't ready, even though I was placed into silver 4 right off. Within a month I was in Bronze 5, where I have been ever since.

So, I spent a HUGE part of the pre-season carrying myself out of B5. It was NOT easy, but I was really starting to feel like I could handle it. I literally carried myself, only occasionally duo cueing. I am still very proud of my progress. I was hoping for a higher bronze / lower silver MMR placement during provisionals.

Not so.

I have only played three of my provisional games, and I nearly ended up in tears by the end of the third. I main ADC and, thankfully, I got it every all three times. But I could not prepare myself for the team mates I was placed with.

Game 1: Yi jungle never connects. Okay, it happens. First provision, no big deal. I can manage. While the Annie proceeds to feed the Brand mid, Nidalee and myself dominate bottom lane at 4-1-1 until about the last two minutes - but I cannot stop the other three team mates from surrendering at exactly the 20 min mark. 1st loss. http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1704363974/207626066?tab=overview

Game 2: Dr. Mundo Support Well... okay. I start to realize about five minutes in that my team mates are almost all new level 30s who have never tried ranked and are treating them like normals - "well, it worked once, and I didn't want to supp anyway". He did an okay job with the early poke, but after about five minutes became completely useless. I was doing okay at first, but it took me too long to realize we had only my own CC to work with. 2nd Loss. Its okay, 8 more. http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1704490852/207626066?tab=overview

Game 3: Kalista Support Let me pause here. KALISTA SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN INTO LOW RANKED WITHOUT VOICE COMMUNICATION. There. Said it. Okay. I lock in Cait as third pick, Kali locks in last pick with no communication what so ever, and takes ignite at that. Well, kill lane. I can totally work with that. Kalista even starts procing her e so we can get double damage - and subsequently starts stealing the CS. I see her a few times try to back off early on, but she is building for ADC and keeps over-poking the minions anyway. By about 15-20 minutes in I am 5-1-7 (ish) and she is exactly opposite (7-1-5 ish). Then the flaming starts (Kali only, btw - and completely unprovoked, only because she died in a lane by herself) of "useless Cait" and "I even let you have all the CS!" (at 20 minutes, I have 77, she has around 150). She starts roaming and gets caught jungle many times. The game is unnecessarily close, with us getting first inhib and them turning around and getting two of ours. By the end of the game I am in 75 sec respawn time. Had I had a real support or an ADC support that had given me kills instead of taking them, we would have won and finished faster. 3rd loss. http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1704580853/207626066?tab=overview

At this point I was done. I had to log off for the rest of the night just to cool down. I have never been so frustrated or disappointed in the matchmaking cue. I've dealt with bronze 5 and overcame. But this? This is madness. Again, in all three matches, I had at least 1 person who had never played ranked before. I could not get a real support (Nidalee was the closest, and was just a touch salty).

And yes, I get it. They all have to start somewhere. They have to be evaluated for where they fall afterwards. Not ALL my team mates were idiotic. I tried really hard to give the benefit of the doubt.

TL;DR: 3 games, no real support, matched with people that feel like they have little or no MMR to work with. IS THIS NORMAL?

If it helps, the feeling is normal.

Do you think waiting for the "new season fad" to wear off would result in more normal placement?

It might help, with the trolls and such at the very least.

That Kassadin went rogue like The Mask.

"ooh! Somebody stop me!"

it happens.

Yea the Zed didn't help there ;) It was just so.... demoralizing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: NEVER play Ranked right after a ladder reset. Players who've never played Ranked go into it now because it's exciting, which makes it bad. MMR is squished, so matchmaking can't make fair games, which makes it worse.

I thought of that after the third game last night. I do have some friends who can duo cue with me which will cut it down, but I do believe waiting might actually be the better option. How long do you propose it will take for the "fad" to wear off?

From my horrible memory, Ranked is "safe" after a couple of months.

Provisional games are reminding you of what new players have to deal with facing lvl 5 smurfs teamed with two lvl 30 masters in lvl 20 games. Honestly though they don't matter and you shouldn't care. Land super low and it should be EASY to claw your way back up to near where you should be. Land super high and well...you know what happens then. There's only benefit, you can get lucky and get a border or whatever but you can't get unlucky and get stuck low.

you can't get unlucky and get stuck low.

Well, you CAN, but it's statistically unlikely, and won't happen for an extended period of time.

This is also my first "season start" - I hit 30 around July last year (ish).

This is mostly true. I'm trying to remember that if I clawed my way up once, I can do it again. I have just never been so demoralized before.

Lol i've been in gold 5-4-3-4-3-4-5-4 in around that order, idk find a history or something like that. New season, i'm expecting to get into silver because of how i look at the luck everybody is having.

My first game: Enemy first blood against jungle Yi "GG" He said and complained the entire game. Second game: Mid laner dies and top laner, first blood on top and he states "GG" and complains the entire game . . . should i keep going? :P

wouldn't surprise me S1 isn't much different than g5-3 since you have to be around g2 by the time you get past placements. If you're around one of the rank borders you have to be extra careful because of that pre-requisite.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I thought I was being sensitive.

Honestly if i get placed in silver i'm just going to have a hell of a fun time. Literally though, only thing holding me back was time due to college and i would always dominate anyways XD
