I just got punished for dodging a champ select.

So? You get punished for dodging, regardless of how troll and awful your team is. It says this right before you dodge.

Doesn't matter if it's ranked or not. There needs to be a punishment for dodging. Otherwise you'd get PBE where if one champ is picked that someone else wants, they just insta dodge. Even if you had a troll comp, and I personally believe that you did well by dodging, you still should get a punishment as the system can't distinguish whether you had dodged bcz of a troll comp or cause you didn't get what you wanted.

Just because it's not as severe as inting doesn't mean it isn't wrong.

Better to dodge and lose the IP than not dodge and spend 20-40 mins losing the IP.

You get punished for dodging because Riot doesn't want you doing it in the first place.

The reason that the first penalty for it is so light, however, is because Riot understands that there are times you have to dodge, because of trolls or whatever.
