Wood Tier

No, I'm not trolling.

I realize this may just exacerbate the problem, but I tend to not think so.

Obviously there's a lot that can be done to improve skill assessment at a deeper level than just w/l. In a team sport w/l is wildly ineffective at accurately assessing individual performance. We've known this for generations. Look at sports, there are quite a lot more statistics we use. It's indicative, maybe even a leading indicator, but not THE indicator. There needs to be more, much more. I've made long posts about this before, we can discuss in comments.

Here's my concept. I suggest adding at least one, but hopefully two, tiers BELOW bronze. Look at the distribution of players, far more than half are sitting in the bronze/silver tiers. That's unacceptable. That's like the majority of the class getting F's and D's. And it causes a steaming pile of mixed skill which is highly irregular and encourages this random casino environment known as 'elo hell'.

Please Riot, consider developing the ranked experience to better serve your majority audience. Because, honestly, this audience is the foundation that will grow your esports empire.

Nah, there is no need to create any more tiers.

Just when you're doing so bad in Bronze people will fall back in unranked again, and they will need to re-do the provisionals, but on a lesser count like say 5 games instead of 10 for entry into ranked system.

Interesting idea. But that's still creating an effective tier 'below' bronze. Which I do appreciate as it can relegate players to a lower bracket.

However, I still wager that there is a massive gap in skill between a fresh level 30 starting out ranked and a bronze that's been playing for a year. And even if that 'yearling' bronze is still relatively unskilled such that they cannot carry four other players out of their division, they are still significantly better than the new peer which barely understands proper build orders.

As it stands now, however, there isn't a large enough differential to cause those two people to NOT end up in games together. A single tier seems an insufficient separation. Tho, forcing players to an 'unranked void loop' is at least somewhat of a step in the right direction.

Excellent point. I agree entirely.
