Who is the most balanced champion right now.

Elewd··3 votes·908 views

I always see threads about "this champ is op or this champ is underpowered" But what about those champions that are balanced, feel balanced to play as or against?

I see caitlyn as one of the most balanced champions in the game, she has her place in any team comp but she doesn't outshine anyone, she just fits in everywhere.

theres also orianna who always feels balanced

Probably Velkoz . And it can't be an adc since the mobile ones are all super OP and the rest are mostly just complete garbage right now. In fact, the most balanced champion probably just can't have mobility since it is 100% guaranteed to create imbalance with the current game mechanics.

If you considered every lane bully broken, then illaoi, renek, and Lb are broken as well. Some champions are designed for 1v1's but don't bring a boatload to teamfights, which is why Malz is balanced.

Wear out malz's mana before trading/engaging as he uses a lot of it farming

AttackOfTheBeard1 votes

Renekton is way too strong during laning phase. Same with Illaoi against all melee champs and even some ranged. Leblanc has high CD's and mana cost. 18 seconds on her W at rank 1 or something like that. Malzahar can just spam E and get mana back for killing creeps and if he gets free poke on the enemy laner then so be it. You cannot tell me that his ult scaling 130% with AP isn't overtuned. THAT is bullshit. I completely disagree where you said he needs to poke down to half health because full combo+ignijte is easy kill ggwp. Damage output is way too fucking high for having a suppression ulti.

Slythion1 votes

Did you just have a rough game with a Malz? xD I never mentioned anything about wearing down his hp, just his mana. He has to push lane to farm, and has no escapes making him extremely easy to gank. An experienced mid will be able to stay out of his ult range, and his combo only works if he is able to ult you after putting all his other spells on you which leaves room for counterplay. Is he a lane bully? Yeah, but if you are only going to call a champion "broken" for doing his job then half the champions in the game are broken. Malz falls off and is only able to suppress 1 champion in teamfights (and even then is likely to be interrupted). He has a strong lane phase but falls off afterwards. Renekton is the same thing, strong lane phase that falls off hard for mid/late game. Illaoi can't even do anything unless the enemy team is dumb enough to stand there after she ults. They all have counterplay, and almost every lane bully falls off late game (making them balanced).

He is not broken, he is hard to lane against if you don't know how to outplay him.

  • He runs out of mana very quickly, all his spells start with high mana costs and they only get larger the more he puts points into them.

  • He naturally pushes the wave with his E and Voidlings, just let him push and call for Jungler help, its an easy kill or you get his Flash.

  • Contrary to popular belief he can't just ult and kill you (unless incredibly fed), he needs to poke you to about half life then W+E+R you, if one of those misses he probably can't kill you (assuming you built some small defense and he isn't way ahead of you in Farm). Basically just dodge his Q and stay away from his E, let him try to poke you down and he will run out of mana before he can kill you.

  • Delayed CC or CC with travel time heavily counters him, if you see him ulting you, try casting CC such as Ahri's Charm or Annies Stun and you will cancel his ult and take relatively low damage.

  • Without his Ult he is extremely weak to all-ins (unless very fed), jump on him and blow his flash or kill him.

  • QSS counters him super hard, for only 1300 gold you can make him useless in lane, which is worth the item slot early game in my opinion.

  • Stay out of his W, its damage is very high and yet almost unnoticeable, plus he will most likely ult you while you are standing in it.

  • His Voidlings will take aggro over Minions, try to drag them to your turret.

There are plenty of champions that do not get bullied by him, more than there are champions who get bullied by him. Just learn how to lane against him and he can be very simple to deal with.

Btw "Broken" means the champion is not working as intended, strengths that are literally beyond what they should be with almost no weaknesses. It does not mean "strong".

Slythion3 votes

You explained that perfectly, thank you.

Once people realize that specialization/uniqueness =/= broken then they will begin to understand how to play against specific champs and their unique kits

Stephenizgod3 votes

Agreed, also people mistake Overpowered with Broken, but those are also different. Overpowered just means overtuned, basically the numbers are wrong or a mechanic is not offering enough weakness.

People really need to understand the difference between "Strong", "Overpowered", and "Broken".

Indeed

Also, I recognize your username. I'm pretty sure we've played with/against each other at some point lol

As a Malzahar main, I can confirm this. And in teamfights, Malz can take one guy out of the fight, then sit there hoping Malefic Visions jumps to something relevant, otherwise he's a sitting duck. He also has no escapes, so any fast ganking champ Amumu Elise LeeSin Rengar XinZhao will either secure a kill for the opposing midlaner, or at least burn his flash. He's also VERY weak to early ganks, and if you secure an early kill on him, his climb back up can be difficult (unless you roam and give him freefarm).

Elewd1 votes

I think twitch is close to balanced but he needs a slight QoL update to make minions not extended the stealth delay duration as much as champion hits do, its dumb and annoying.

Slythion1 votes

I'll agree with that

Stephenizgod1 votes

Gangplank is not very balanced at all.

Slythion1 votes

Why?

Stephenizgod1 votes

Well his Q applies Grasp of the Undying which makes trading with him damn near impossible since he can just poke you down from ranged while healing. His barrels offer little counterplay to a melee person since he can place a barrel and explode them almost simultaneously. His ults slow plus his barrel MS make it almost impossible duel him post-6. His bonus armor pen also negates stacking armor against him. Should you CC him he can just orange out of it while at the same time healing. Basically there is a lot he can do against you, but not much you can do against him.

He feels like the only counterplay to him is to be ranged like Quinn and Quinn is the cancer of Top lane so i don't like that.

Slythion1 votes

Alright, you listed his strengths but none of that makes it impossible for counterplay.

His barrels push lanes and you can disarm them yourself (it's actually a really fun, easy, and troll thing to do)

If he takes grasp of the undying (and ive seen it) he is forced to waste mana on a useless poke + slight heal, and he'll run out of mana that way

A gangplank wont ult unless you are out of position, otherwise you can literally just walk out of it or even duel him in it if you have the tank/sustain stats

Cons: You can run him out of mana with poke/trades/cc and avoid all of his poke (unless he Q's, but that's a waste of mana) fairly easy. He also only has 1 cleanse, and so calling your jungler makes him an susceptible to ganking as he has no escape after that initial cc cleanse. His laning phase is actually quite mediocre

Stephenizgod1 votes

Disarming his barrels is impossible to do as a Melee champ, he will put one behind him then throw one on top of you at the same time as he melee/Q's the one behind him. Its instant damage, you can flash to avoid it but thats about it.

Grasp of the Undying steals life so its dealing his Q damage on top of the Grasp damage. Its actually really good poke for his Q that also offers sustain. Its hard to make him run out of Mana because early game all he will do is Q when he needs to. Once he gets triforce he can clear waves instantly and it costs him almost nothing to do it.

A Gangplank will ult if you are low enough that he can use the slow and MS boost to kill you with his massive barrel explosion and true damage passive, which means once you hit a certain threshold you can no longer fight him on the fear he will ult you. You can't even CC him and run either.

Im not saying Gangplank is broken, i just think he is too overbearing for melee champs without much mobility. You have to take someone who is ranged or has a dash because he is a better dueler than most top laners.

Slythion1 votes

I'll give you that, but I see a lot of counterplay in him. I've almost never had an issue with his barrels, and so rushing armour against his Q has always worked for me

Bard I would argue is the most balanced champion in the game right now. Think of how you react to getting dumpstered on by all champions and then think of how you react if you get dumpstered on by Bard. I've never once been mad or raged about getting outplayed or killed by a Bard. Long live Brad Bard

Top: Maokai Renekton MonkeyKing

Jungle: Skarner Rammus Aatrox

Middle: Velkoz Xerath Talon

Bottom (ADC): Twitch Jhin Draven

Bottom (Support): Bard Leona Blitzcrank

The top three for each role for me. Maokai is the most balanced Top, followed by Renekton and Wukong. Skarner is the most balanced Jungle (although might want to have a rework since he is a little weird), with Rammus and Aatrox being behind him. Vel'Koz is the most balanced Middle, with Xerath and Talon following behind. Twitch is the most balanced ADC, then Jhin and the amazing Draven. Bard is the most balanced Support, then comes Leona and Blitzcrank. The first ones I listed are the really balanced ones, and then there is a usually a decent gap between the next two and the first, although not a huge gap in between the second and third.

Elewd1 votes

it may just be me, but i can't see talon as balanced. hes feast or famine and thats just not balanced. most everything else i sorta agree on. maybe a fine line for wukong and Jhin but i dont think they are stupid strong or anything.

ThaPizzaMan1 votes

I agree with all except for wukong , his R can't be stopped with any cc to my knowledge and that my friend is broken. Even if you "press R" with malzahar you will 40% of the time ult his clone.

The answer is always Karthus

On perhaps a more serious note, I'm tempted to say Thresh.

Yes, Thresh. He has a very obvious play pattern, defined strengths and weaknesses, he's too stable to fall out of the meta, and too weak to dominate it these days.

(I don't even play Thresh more than once in a blue ARAM. I play against Thresh as a support main.)

Anyone who says Velkoz has no idea what they're talking about and most likely never plays him.
