Vision in pre-season and season 7 (Rioter feedback appreciated)

This is long, but I would appreciate y'all giving it a read and adding your two cents

Riot made huge changes to vision, and specifically warding, last pre-season. For the most part, I feel like these changes were detrimental. I do feel as though vision and warding in season 5 were too strong and too prolific. Go back and watch any professional game from season 5, and the entire mini map is lit up like a Christmas tree. But this season, the pendulum swung completely in the opposite direction. The removal of individual green wards from the shop, the elimination of the Greater Stealth Totem as an upgrade option, and the streamlining of Sightstone as a support-focused item have made the map pitch black in solo queue games. Sure, pink wards were reduced in cost, but you can still only have one of them on the map at a time. And if you use your trinket on cooldown, you can only average 0.3-1.5 (level 1 to 18) wards on the map at any given time. Then even at level 18, the wards from the trinket only last for 2 minutes, and the real green wards from Sightstone items and Smitestone (Tracker's Knife)item 3711 only last for 2:30 (compared to 3 minutes last season). Then with the buffs to the red trinket line and the decreased cost of pink wards, there are also more vision denial tools. So realistically, your team is lucky to have 4-5 meaningful wards on the entire map at any given time, even during late game.

I had hoped that this season would see some increases to availability of vision and warding, but it's taking another hit. The changes to pink wards (they're basically permanent red trinkets) now make them an even stronger vision denial tool. And with the upcoming assassin reworks, and the fact that pretty much all of the assassin items now give out of combat movement speed, keeping consistent vision will be more important than ever. How am I supposed to stop a 600+ movement speed Talon (Mobi boots or Swifties + Dickblade of Draktharr new out of combat movespeed + Youmuu's Ghostblade new out of combat movespeed + Sorcerer's Bane (new item) out of combat movespeed) from flanking my team, wall-hopping, and blowing up my ADC before a fight starts if I don't have the tools to keep consistent enough vision to track him?

Personal suggestions:

-Bring back the Greater Totem upgrades: The Greater Stealth Totem cost 250 gold, was only available at level 9+, and held up to 2 wards that lasted for 3 minutes with a 60 second recharge time. I bought this item every game, as both a top laner and a jungler. I would drop 25-30 wards in a game. I can understand why it was too strong, and I think it needed nerfing. But removing it entirely was not the answer. If it cost 400 gold, and the wards only lasted for 2:30 instead of 3:00, I would still buy it. Riot said that they removed it because they wanted vision to be equally accessible to everyone, but if someone is willing to sacrifice combat stats towards the end of laning phase in favor of putting a high priority on vision, let them do it.

-Give Smitestone additional charges for smiting vision buffs: This one is going to be irrelevant with the proposed changes to the jungle, but it's been an idea that I've had for a while. Krugs and Gromp both grant combat buffs, while Razorbeaks and Wolves grant vision tools. If someone with Tracker's Knife forgoes a combat buff in favor of smiting Wolves, Raptors, or Scuttle, then they could refill one charge on their Smitestone. Maybe the recharge could only come from using Smite on Scuttle (since it gives no other bonuses if Smite is used).

-Make a Sightstone option (or rough equivalent) for junglers or other laners: Let me start by saying that I LOVE the Eye items. When this season first started, I built Eye of the Equinox on tank junglers for warding (selfless lane tax after a gank was also pretty nice). But the Eye items, as well as Ruby Sightstone, are very support-oriented. All three Eye items build out of support items, and outside of health and warding, the only thing Ruby Sightstone gives is cooldown reduction on item actives, which is mostly useful for supports. I would very much like to see more options for vision that don't involve significant sacrifices in combat stats for top laners and junglers, possibly mid laners or even ADCs as well.

Anyways, that's what I've got right now. Please comment with your thoughts on vision in this past season and moving forward.
