League of Questionable Baron Calls
Is it just me, or has season 6 seen a huge spike in Baron throws? Baron used to be something you went to when you won a solid team fight and had the time to rush it down without the enemy team being able to stop it. We occasionally saw teams sneak a Baron when both teams had all five members up, trade it for a Dragon, or push several lanes before falling back to take it. But in all, Baron calls were either made from a positional advantage, a numbers advantage, a gold advantage, or as a last ditch effort from behind to try and even the score.
It seems like half the games have at least one significant Baron throw. Not always to immediately end the game, but enough to put the opposing team solidly ahead. And furthermore, it seems like the majority of the Baron calls are made when both teams have five members up, all at full health, all around the Baron pit, and there's no significant advantage for the team going after Baron. I'm curious to know why.
