Kindred mark acquisition discussion

Hey guys i'm godly polo a kindred one trick that hovers around plat-gold, and while i can say i'm currently happy with how kindred is fairing in the preseason there is still a lot of complaint from their passive. I wanted to talk about Some ways Kindred marks could be slightly improved that have been thought of in hopes to make acquiring marks a bit more bearable, and not have as many games where you get completely shut out of your passive.

First one of the main issues with Kindred marks is Wolfs marks are far to easily visible to everyone, and what i mean by that is as soon as a mark spawns the entire game knows where it is, and even with out teamwork or communication it's very easy for the enemy team to shut you down. There are a few thought of ways to currently help improve this.

  • Make it so only a person with summoner 11 can see which camp wolf marks, this adds a bit of room for a Kindred player to work with if the enemy isn't communicating in Solo queue, while not really adding anything to their power in pro play where they will be communicating.

  • Another option would be to give kindred a 5-10 second head start on seeing where their next mark before it becomes visible to everyone else, make it only visible to Kindred for 5-10 seconds that way they can at least have a fighting chance with out getting ambushed constantly

  • A third way to try and handle this is to only mark the side of the jungle the mark is own for the enemy, this at least gives you some breathing room, while also letting opponents know where they could look to find you but not pin point it right away.

Another prominent issue with the marks is on lambs side of things, Lamb also has the ability to mark a champion, and kill or assist you gain a mark, this sounds nice and makes it seem early game stacking should be much easier to avoid being locked out of marks early, and while it does help avoid that happening it's also a hindrance to ganking sometimes. At present it takes 8 second from the time you click the person to mark for your mark to set in and change, 8 seconds gives the enemy laner far to much warning and any sane laner will know it's time to just back off and let the wave come to you, or Kindred will be here.

  • A solution for this could make it so the time for the mark to set in is 6 seconds scailing to 4 seconds with your first for marks. Example being 0 marks it takes 6 seconds, at one mark it takes 5.5 seconds. The reason i suggest this is so it doesn't mark to fast early game and let you get your 4 mark power spike to easily from just ganks alone, and early game it still provides laners with adequate time to react, just not quite as much as now, and the later into the game when fights happen on more short notice it still gives you time to have a mark change before the person dies to the burst mage/ crit adc/ whatever.

One finally topic i'd like to touch on is back before batch 6.13 there was still a small % of kindred players who like playing kindred in lane, the ability to do this was greatly removed when kindred lost their heal and a lot of damage without their passive. Talking to a lot of kindred players, they'd love for a chance to be able to at least have a fighting chance in lane even if it was harder for them, but to lane with out marks is laning without a passive and that's pretty lackluster for a lot of players, Shyvana is an example of a champ without a real passive if she doesn't get drags and it feels terrible. So to help with this, and also help make it so getting shut out of marks isn't nearly as common i feel there could be a simple solution, which would make for a better over all gameplay on kindred

  • My solution for this is to make it so every 40 creep score you're granted one mark, you may ask why would this help? For jungling this makes it so even if you get shut out of your enemys jungle for marks, if you kill 10 camps, or tax some and kill some camps you still have the ability to collect some marks that aren't just kills and assist, and would avoid a lot of games where players can't get they're first spike at 4 marks. In terms of laning it's not unreasonable to exit laning phase with 120 farm, this would grant 3 marks, + if you had a gank from a jungler and got a mark from your laner it would still allow you to get your spike, while laning and make use of your passive.

Thank you for taking the time to read this to anyone who does, and give me some feedback. These were just some suggestions to making kindred better, while not actually adding damage or numbers to their kit, Overall i feel kindred is fine right now, but that might just be me. Also sorry my grammar and punctuation isn't the greatest, this is my first time typing something like this up, so i hope it's okay for those who are obsessed with grammar

I actually really like the "make a jungle side" and the "give kindred a small headstart" I dont play her much but when im against one it really does feel a little strong when a mark appears on a scuttle and you can take it before kindred can react or sometimes before she can try and contest Would love to see changes like this hit the pbe for testing

Nope, buff Ivern instead. Kindred and her marks are absolutely fine, you're wrong.

i like the ideas you got here especially faster marking on enemy champions and the idea of getting marks after getting certain amounts of cs. giving kindred a head start is also good but i feel like going as far as ten might be a bit much? it could be worth looking into at least. these would be just very nice quality of life things for kindred i mean sure the mark system isnt broken at all or anything but that doesnt mean it couldnt be better.

Lots of good ideas.

Mine:

Only once the enemy sees the marked jungle camp with their actual vision, does it appear on their map. This means they'll actually have to put some thought into it, it rewards a prepared player on the enemy team, and gives kindred a headstart most of the time. The enemy won't be able to ward every single jungle camp on their side. And if they really try to stop your marks, they will be losing wards that could be placed in your jungle.

As for the stacks, I agree with the CS stuff, to a limit. Any hunt is better than no hunts; even if Kindred would prefer the prime hunt, the lesser ones should still count. Champion takedowns and CS should work toward marks. But I don't think this should go past 4 marks or something. Basically because 4 marks is all you really need to win games, but once you get like 20+ you become insanely strong. I don't want Kindred to turn into a farming simulator, they should stay a hunter who jumps into dangerous territory to get a reward.

Another idea would be to completely remove jungle camp marks, and replace it with "Wolf's Hunger" or something. Wolf hungers for all camps in the enemy jungle, as well as dragon, baron, rift herald and scuttle, at all times. They would give a fraction of what a mark normally gives though. We would still keep Lamb's mark on enemy champions. The numbers would need to be changed a lot for this, but it's probably my favorite idea.

Finally, the last idea is to allow you to choose wolf's hunts somehow, rather than having it random. Same delay as with champions. You could do a lot of mind games with this too, but the UI would be tricky to get right.
