Just played Aurelion Sol... Eh... What's the point of him?

He's interesting and fun to play, his personality is the best part about him. He has an ego the size of a star to match his lore. Butttt....

In practice, what reason would you have to pick him over somebody else like Anivia. Anivia has a longer range stun, better burst damage with that awesome E, a better ultimate and just seems all round better then AurelionSol in everything other then health and surviability and mobility but you do not really need that on a mage unless you are playing Swain or a semi-tanky mage like Lissandra.

So why would you pick him because if I'm being fair, his ultimate is a little lackluster and his Q range is quite small, even when you have expanded his stars so unless you build him as a tanky mage, which Swain can do better in my opinion, I am not sure why you would pick him. He seems to bring nothing unique to the party.

Also, he requires additional positioning to hit his stars which most other mages do not actually need to do so I fail to see what he has to offer that would be better then Anivia, Swain or even Lissandra. I expected his ultimate to be a really awesome sun with a name like "Voice of Light" but its just a lackluster slow (which Khazix gets more slow off his void spikes).

I am trying not be negative but I really do not see the point of him other then... dragon.

Sol's stun has a longer effective range than Anivia's. If he uses his E to follow it and set up for a roam or an engage from base he can hit an entire team with a stun nearly the width of the lane.

Also, Anivia does in fact have higher burst damage.

But Sol isn't meant to do big burst damage. He's a sustained damage mage. Furthermore, his W makes him an incredible kiter, especially against juggernauts.

Because some people aren't tryhards or pretending they are going pro some day, so they play champs based on personal preference and style and not on an algorithm of this vs that by decimal point of effectiveness.

Godly roaming potential, manaless wave-clear, manaless wave-clear so you can shove wave and constantly roam, expanding stun you can have an easier to-land stun while roaming.

Sol is all about roaming.

Played well, his team essentially feels like a 6v5. He's all about the TF plays and mid-lane Teleport meta.

Sol's purpose isn't to burst anyone, you can do it, but that's not the intended interaction.

Build RoA and Rylais and you dictate the pace of the fight. Your kite is insane, the perma slow keeps most people away from you the whole fight, if they jump on you with a gap closer that's when your ult comes into play, creating distance and re-applying your slow.

Teamfights are what you excell at. Especially when it's time to group around objectives. Enemy team at Baron? Fly at them with a giant star, you either stun multiple people or force them to split up/blow flash. Then you pop your W and position yourself to either:

1: Create distance as a blocking force with your stun/slows from W/ult knock back. Basically an amazing peeler.

2: Stick to the enemy backline, stun carries, and keep the damage dealers away from your team.

If you can't position well then Sol offers nothing to you honestly. Plenty of champs do what he does, but none can do it to the same level if you position correctly.

I've played almost exclusively Sol since his release and have been having amazing success with him.
