Why I Believe Dr. Mundo Doesn't Need a Rework

I'm gonna say, I don't think he needs a full rework. Coming from a Dr. Mundo lover, M7 or main or whatever, I understand where people who dislike him are coming from.

Here's a list I found on someone's reasoning for why they want a rework for the madman and my responses FORMAT {reasoning - response}:

  • He is tier 1 in the VGU list - Yes

  • 450 BE champion like Nunu and Warwick - Yes,

  • one of the oldest champions in the game - Yes

  • he is meta aka broken or useless - He's not always broken or useless. There are actually a lot of nuances to playing the champion. Anyways, this could apply to tons of other champions that are newer/relevant like Akali. one nerf and she's outta here lol.

  • hard to balance - I don't think so. Kalista is hard to balance. Azir is hard to balance. These difficulties result from the number of resources they have at their disposal. Mundo doesn't have too many resources so he doesn't require that many changes, although the few resources he does have can be used very effectively.

  • his kit is lacking many things - I partially agree. His kit could have more, but then people would complain even more. His kit is fine and each of his abilities (except arguably W) works well each other and gives choices to how to approach a game, like GAREN.

  • he is looking like a character in a Nintendo game and his pizza feet looks delicious kappa - Mundo as smash DLC???? But yes, he deserves a Visual Update model-wise for most skins.

The last few important stat changes Mundo received nerfed his Q and E and buffed his Ultimate. These changes kind of ruined Mundo.

Q v8.14 - HEALTH COST REFUND ON HIT : [50%] ⇒ 40% (still doubled on kill) E v8.13 - ATTACK DAMAGE : [30/50/70/90/110] ⇒ 30/45/60/75/90 R v8.10 - COOLDOWN : [100/85/70] ⇒ 110/100/90 seconds COST : [20%] ⇒ 25% current health v8.9 - HEALING : [40/50/60%] ⇒ 50/75/100% maximum health

The E nerf was deserved and needed. Mundo didn't need all that much damage as he gains damage the lower he is, so that isn't made Mundo supposedly appear difficult to balance. Even the R nerfs weren't the problem. The extra healing WAS an issue initially, however, the cooldown nerf along with nerfing his E kind of fixed that issue. What makes people perceive Mundo as hard to balance was when Riot decided to change his Q. The risk of using Mundo's Q was missing, which meant a guaranteed loss in health. Hitting gave 50% back, and even the change to 40% still wasn't the issue, but taking away the full refund of his Q upon killing a target was a massive mistake. If the risk of using Mundo's Q is missing and losing health, what reason is there to throw it if there is no reward whatsoever. This change ruined all of his matchups that he was even, and in some cases ahead in. It made Mundo unable to viably use his Q to farm from a distance against champions like Vladimir and Renekton. It also ruined most of his laning phase matchups due to an increased loss in trade victory chance.

Overall, with the number of changes he received in that short span of patches, it's no wonder that people think he needs a rework, especially because he's not doing so hot right now. However, with one little revert to Mundo's Q, this whole issue could be resolved.

However, despite my rant, I understand the frustration with Mundo, but I don't think he needs the kinds of changes most people think he seems to need. Hope I could shed some light on why Mundo doesn't need a full VGU and why I love playing him!!! :) [slayer-jinx-catface]

I'd love feedback and if anyone on from the Riot design, balance, or rework teams, I'd love to hear your thoughts specifically! Bye!

Only point I wanted to touch on here as I don't really have any insight into Mundo, Akali didn't get one nerf. She got repeated small nerfs to parts of her kit that weren't problematic, followed by 2 significant nerfs that removed what people actually found frustrating about her, which ultimately killed her off until she gets buffs in the coming patches.

The problem is there's not much counterplay to him, and his entire kit revolves around endless sustain.

You take someone like Warwick, and the sustain isn't the centerpiece of his kit. It's there, and it's not insignificant, but it's not something he's entirely reliant on, and it's not something that absolutely mandates item 3123 to ever be able to kill him. Or you take Nasus, who primarily needs the sustain to get through early game, until he can scale into actually being useful. Again, the sustain isn't the core part of his kit.

Champions who's only real identity is draintanking everything aren't exactly healthy, and it generally leaves them in an unbalanceable state, based solely on whether or not their sustain is enough to survive past GW.

Mundo does need a rework because he starts out as the best siege mage in the game, followed by building tanky while his damage scales up anyway, with his ult absolutely requiring his opponents counterbuild with very specific items. He is either OP or useless, and the game is better off when he's useless.

Mundo is fine. the issue is that everyone in the game except Mundo, Garen, and Ornn die instantly because damage is out of control. this leads to a point where when you see somebody not die instantly you feel like its unfair. but its the game that needs a rework, not Mundo. I play him whenever i can in ARAM, and I can comfortably say that he's still great there without being easy mode.

Mundo is boring AF to play and I would explain why but that can take me 1 hour so he needs a rework mainly for being a very boring champion
