Tanky Supports

This is my first time going through ranked matches. I've been playing placements for this past week and a half. Sona was definitely my go to however she was quite squishy and I was really sick of it. I've played six matches and only won 2 of them. One with Sona support and the other as Maokai. The rest of the games I was playing Sona support and lost them all. I wanna play someone like Maokai with his tanky build. Are there any other supports that are similar to him in tankiness? I wanna start off my placement well. I've been noticing that I've been being placed against bronze 1 - silver 4 players. Is that where I belong though?

Beefiest tank support, no pun intended, would be Alistar in my opinion. Once you hit 6 you're almost unkillable in lane and you become a monster in team fights. He works best with the lack of reliable income as supports go because of that, in my opinion.

My build with him is usually: item 3401 item 2045 item 3109 item 3107 first and foremost, then: item 3190 /item 3060 /item 3193 as the situation demands. Stoneplate is never bad, though, since you pick Ali for his CC and never his damage. And what's left is whatever you deem necessary for boots.

Couple all of that with Alistar's natural beefiness and you can almost always make plays with little to no regrets. Try burning through an Ali with ult + gargoyle + FotM's active AND passive shields + redemption healing. You can't.

Second fave for me is Maokai, who I would have at M7 if I had the damn essence. Three forms of hard CC, huge damage, free wards, great sustain, and overall fuckin menace. Doesn't have the same beefiness due to ult, but he's got way more AoE CC if that's your preference.

if your complaint about sona is "she's too squishy", the real problem is, your positioning sucks.

stop tryhing to be in the front with a squishy champ. problem solved.

Sona's to dependent on positioning. Till you get really good at spell weaving in and out of combat you'll most likely get nuked alot.

Leonas pretty easy to start off when learning tank supports. She's pretty point and click if you're aware when to engage or not. I actually don't recommend Alistair as it requires great positioning to line up combos.

Naut can be pretty tanky. Rakan is nice. If you don't have a few thousand games under your belt try Sona with health seals +75hp MR glyphs Armor Quints and Hybrid or magic pen marks. And be careful poking,
