Maokai's new ult is too weak and too damn slow

people can disagree with me but you wont make sense jk

but seriously his ult is too damn slow.

too damn slow if its going to be that slow why is the range so damn small it covers the whole lane but its extremely easy to dodge your team just need to stand behind ONE person (should be a tank) while running back sure you can go in melee range and use it but it'll only do like a shitty .6 root thats so op! the ulti overall is honestly crap they should have it increase speed as it moves forward and increase the damn range by like a few hundreds its clearly not an engage abilities, i heard its supposed to be a peel ability or something but like your never gonna land it and have it root for the full 2.4 seconds AND ITS FUKING ROOT shouldve made it a stun imo

Yet even with this, people are still finding pretty decent success with him as a support as of late. Literally half of my games have had him pick/banned with the idea being that he goes full-AP and just spams dot effects.

Use it from point blank and that's it.

Its great once you get up close, and its also a great escape too. You do NOT use to catch targets from a distance like how you would use Sejuani's ult.

Those saplings deal a load of damage though, I can see him getting a nerf before any sort of buff.

I've seen many people getting caught by the ult and if it is used from a shorter range from the enemies it is bound to get at least one of them.

"your team just need to stand behind ONE person (should be a tank) while running back" is that not the same with Jhins ult, or avoiding things like caitlyn's ult, sand behind someone tankier or at least with more health whilst removing yourself from damage?

no.

his ult is not weak, it is very situational and requires proper preparation. let's say your team engages a 4v5 and you get behind the team and use your ult

they have 3 choices. -run away from it, straight into your team and still get caught -run towards it, lessen the root duration but then get peeled by you -split apart by dodging to the sides and get picked out

if you Play his ultimate properly you can seriously mess up the enemy comp, you don't Need to land it to win the fight, it can just like a shaco clone serve as pure distraction and trickery. mao ult is more about the mindgame than the effective landing.

ideally he is meant as a peel, defensive tank and his ult is best as counter engage after the enemy over commits

but i have idea about how to make him more viable in the way rito wanted to and its not giving him more damage or ratios and this comes from playing the rework and my experience on the champ.

his idenity of the tank cc champ he was who could at least hold his own in lane is now ruined... and that full ap build as a support wont be viable as it was with the nerfs to his E now with lower based damages, lower ap ratio and flat 8% hp damage as magic damage... that dont scale with rank

so now he is reverted to being a tank with shit for an ult , a long cd on his W with shit ap ratio and a shit duration of root and a useless E

and prior to the rework he had a win rate on average of about 46% .... going back to last half/end of last season and up to the rework... after rework top and jungle his win rate is still 46% and the only role he succeeded in was the cheezy as hell full ap support... which people cried over right away and now it got nerfed and there are even more drastic nerfs on the pbe right now

i have ideas on how to make this Rework maokai kit work and be effective...

i still play him as a tanky cc bruiser as i did prior to the rework . they took the % hp damage from his W and put it on E and over buffed it they took the impact damage from his E cuz it was too strong in lane and he couldnt be shut out vs a bad match up and then they take the %hp damage on W to E now and people build him full ap go support and he has a win rate over 52% at support...

maokai out of the recent ap support tree meta has a 46 % average win rate prior to the rework and after it in top and jungle he has had this win rate since the end of last season... with those low #s i still maintain a 57% win rate with him top/jungle when his win rate in those roles are on average 46% since the season started (so before rework and after rework) i loved the champ i loved everything in his kit and play style.

i highly dislike the rework and think rito shit the bed on it... i have purposed thoughts and ideas that i think would fix this issue in my opinion

but if they simply give him lower CDR on W and make the duration of the root worth leveling (it goes 1.0 to 1.4 at max rank ) and lower the CDR on his ult by 15 seconds at each rank 120/110/100 currently so down to 105/95/85 seconds and make it move slighty faster , they can nerf the E damage and he would be fine and able to function as the protective type of counter engage tank they want him to be...

maybe just give him a lil higher flat ad base and a lil better attack speed at lvl 1 ( even nerf the scaling on it later is fine to compensate)

and a pet peeve is the clunky slow animation of his heal proc on passive , it use to be the fasted auto attack in the game now its weird

im not asking for higher ratios or damage or tank stats. just some cdr and a lil better duration on the root on

Rewt5/21/2017, 8:20:54 PM1 votes

It just needs to be a tiny bit faster. like maybe 50 units per second faster.

I dont use his new ult except when I'm dueling or in a teamfight that already started.

It's a great tool to lockdown people trying to escape when you're dueling or really close to a group of enemies already (like in a teamfight, where you should be frontlining anyways).

It does a fair amount of damage when you build some AP, and combined that with your W and Q (which you should be maxing first always now), it's pretty strong combo.

You can't honestly expect to use it from a distance and actually catch anything.

Also, if you're positioned in FoW off to the side of a teamfight happening, ult it sideways into the enemy (aim it more for their backline/retreat area), then join in the fight with your E-W-Q.

They'll be too busy fighting to see the brambles before it's already on top of them.
