Any counters to Rakan?

So far, I've had a bit of success with Leona in bot lane and Taliyah mid/support. I haven't tried playing morgana against him in lane, but I would assume that she would be a decent support counter. Do you guys have any suggestions?

I have a lot of fun when i play thresh against him. Also lulu save polymorph for when he goes in so he cant go back out with his shield/dash.

Hard. CC. Fucks. Him. Punish his laning phase, its kinda bad if your adc is smart

I'm not saying that Rakan is OP, broken or smth, just an observation that if the only counterplay to a champion is to point-and-click hard-cc them, they tend to be unhealthy.

Rakan is very mobile, he is the LeBlanc or Lee Sin of supports.

So people can finally say LeeSin is unhealthy? and his laning phase is obvious, he has to walk pretty close to get q, w has a 1 sec pause before jumping, and if you just walk out of the closest exit of the knockup circle, you usually wont get snared. He has very high cd's early. W and E being 18-20 Seconds. The most unexpected thing in his kit is either his E, or a flash W, or Ulting in the middle of W or E

A Good Bard Leona Zilean Morgana Lulu Fiddlesticks can counter him decently. Bard has easy q's Leona Tons of CC, Zilean bombs are a deterrent to e to allies Morgana snare op Lulu has Transmogulate Fiddle has fears and silences.

A Good Caitlyn Ezreal Kalista Lucian Vayne all have dashes. Tristana e is a deterrent to e to your allies. Easy Caitlyn e's, Ezreal is the safest thing ever, Kalista never stops moving, horrible for an all skilshot champ Luc can dodge your W, and it leaves you in everything range Vayne can tumble(note moving rakan during w will move the champ but not the knockup.)

Honestly, I don't think there's anything that doesn't counter Rakan.

  • His heal is extremely unreliable and his cooldowns in general a big, so poke lanes can easily poke him and/or, more importantly, his ADC down.
  • CC is highly telegraphed. Most supports have a form of CC that can either cancel his CC or simply CC the enemy ADC
  • While he shields and heals, he doesn't give any form of buff to his ADC or bring damage himself. Most of the time, simply focusing the enemy ADC should win you the trade.

Rakan scales pretty decently and is great at picking people off mid/late game, but if all we're talking about is laning, I think the only thing that doesn't counter him are passive lanes.

Thresh flay messes him up, and Alistar can just headbutt him out of his engage or turn it around with his knock up and tankier build, and if you are coordinated with your bot laner, taric would also be a good option since locking him down after he dashes onto you will be easy since he has that delay on his knockup

Almost anyone can lane against him if you ain't no bitch.

word.

Most champs with hard cc, most champs with dash interrupts (which mostly overlaps with the first category). Brand tends to mess him up too, as brand wants people to clump. I expect most pokey lanes would do well too, as they should be able to avoid being in range for him to land his q's removing his sustain.

Alistar is amusing to play against Rakan. CC him when he dashes in, before he can get his own CC off, and he's successfully made a suicide play.

Taliyah for obvious reasons.

Nautilus pop an auto when he dashes in, hook him when he tries to dash out.

Honestly, I think plenty of supports besides TahmKench effectively counter him.

I think Taric is a pretty good counter. I seem to do really well when I'm Taric against a duo Vastayan bot. Though I am mastery 7 :p

Poppy is an absolutely hilarious counter of Rakan. Her W renders him and his 'dashing' nature utterly useless and keeps him from bouncing in and/or out. You can either choose to w him early to stop him from going in, or wait a bit and keep him from escaping, giving an easy pick just for being near him. Even later, her E can be used to shove him off your team while he's ulting, or just ult him up or away, but it's generally better to save those for bigger enemies.
