Get rid of promo games.

I would seriously not care about any changes Riot makes in the game. If they could just remove having to play promo games in order to promote, that alone would save me so much of a headache. It would without a doubt be a huge quality of life when playing this game.

They're supposed to make you feel like you're competing in a real tournament. They don't. They're just a huge pain in the ass.

The problem is that when you promote lets say from gold 4 to gold 3 and you get an afk in the first gold 3 game you play and that makes you lose and demote too you feel like: why do I even try.

I think like having a demote series would kind of help so the moment you have 0 lp you have a 3 game series so if you actually lose the first one but win the other 2 you can stay in your division instead of demoting with your first game at 0 lp

And they still don't admit that the promo matchmaking is "different" (= more rigged) than the usual one.

Totally not shady.

i agree...promo games are waste of time

Promotion games by design are meant to force people to stay in whatever rank they are currently in. If you think about it logically, whether you want to believe it or not, Riot intends for each player to have an about 50% win rate. Of course, many people are above this, and many are also below this. But it generally averages out. In order to enter a normal promotion from say Gold 4 to Gold 3, you need to win the games up to getting into your promo's, and then you need to win 2/3 games. The game requires you to have a 75% win rate in your next 4 games in order to promote. (I say 3/4, because you need to win the first game to get into your promo's). This honestly makes a series seem slightly better, as you can win 3/5 to promote, and the 1 to get in is 4/6, or ~66%. Riot's ranking system by design is forced to keep people with average, below average, and unlucky streaks from being able to promote.

Yep, like mine today. Top Udyr 5 games played Cait mid with poor experience with her Adc Ez who built ap and Mejai beinh 1/5 with negative kda on all his mains.

wanted to dodge this. i was in promo -.-

Shleelpboy9/20/2019, 8:12:20 PM4 votes

I agree with this. This is just a useless part of the ranking. In Overwatch (example) you don't get promos. Just a straight up rank.

Mártir9/21/2019, 4:41:42 AM4 votes

agree. promo games are a huge obstacle-wall. and there is objectively no reaso for them to be there.

I don't have an opinion on removing promotional games, however I would like Riot to provide LP for wins in promotional games. I mean it seems like a valid thing to ask for considering losing promos sets you back typically 2 wins from reaching promos again. On top of that you dont even get full LP for the second win.

Example: LP gain per win 20 - 24

100 LP -> Lose promos -> 75 LP -> win match -> 95 to 99 LP. Your next match is worth only 1 LP but the lose equates to significantly more. That amount leftover amount past 1 LP doesn't even carry over.

If you win both your promos you start at 0 LP for the next bracket. How exactly is this fair?

If riot refuses to show us our MMR which is used for matches, but force us to use LP as the metric, then they should make the system fair. IF I win I get LP. IF I lose I lose LP.

And, once a player places in a division, they no longer need to suffer through placement games. Instead the next season they start where they finished.

Ended in B4? Start there the next season, so on and so forth. Placements might be the most tilting part of this game for me.

1st season - Placed B1, ended in B4, which was perfect.

2nd season - placed in B5, climbed to S4. (Should have started in B4)

3rd season - placed in B3 climbed to S3 (However, I should imo been placed in S3). Instead I had yet again waste my time fighting my way out of Bronze to get back to S3.

This Season placed B2 climbed to S4 (barley) and just gave the heck up because this season my win % is 46, where in all prior seasons it was around 52-53%.

I'm so tired of being placed in bronze when it's abundantly clear I belong in at least Silver 4.

I hate that riot does this to it's playerbase.

We all want Promos to go. Riot wont remove them because they do exactly want riot wants them to do. Slow your progression.

I like the way TFT ranked works where if you go past 100, you go to the next tier and only drop when you lose at 0 lp

Liquid Soap9/21/2019, 8:28:13 PM2 votes

The rank system should be like the old one. Just MMR. But the players are given this armor plating (iron4-1...dia4-1). To join Master, GM, Challenger promos would still be ok.

In short: remove promos, remove demotion protection, just show mmr

This ranked system combined with the role selection is the source of the current negativity in the player base.

Grumpig9/20/2019, 3:06:22 PM2 votes

If they remove promos they would have to make it so you demote the second your lp drops below that tier. if your plat 4 at 10 lp and then lose 16 lp you would be gold 1 with 94 lp. I just hope you understand that.

Heos009/21/2019, 11:40:43 PM2 votes

Or just stop rigging promo games.

The King Diamond9/21/2019, 3:19:11 PM1 votes

Yeah, just like in Smite. #NO FOR PROMOS

Daddy Ants9/20/2019, 11:16:42 PM1 votes

Below Diamond 1 they should run the same system as TFT.

Let's say you're Platinum 1 85 LP, you win a game and get 23 LP. You should be promoted to Diamond 4 8 LP.

For Diamond 1 -> Master a normal 5 games promotion series should apply.

The promotion/demotion system in Master, Grandmaster and Challenger should not change.

Death Notè9/21/2019, 9:27:16 PM1 votes

Yes, get rid of promos I agree completely.

JRobin319/21/2019, 5:46:17 PM1 votes

Personally, I don't treat promo games any differently than other games I play. This season I haven't even tried hard to get to any particular rank. I don't keep track of how much LP I have, I don't keep track of whether or not I'm in a promo series. And I have to say... it's a lot less stressful and the game is more enjoyable.

I do sort keep track of my rank in a vague way: like I'm Silver or I see I'm playing game with Bronze borders or I see I'm playing games with gold borders. Or I see I'm playing games with Silver borders. But i don't have any anxieties about where I really belong. If I make Gold this season it might be nice, but if I do make Gold it will be because it just sort of happened while I was playing games and not because I was feeling a deep seated urge to perform well in what is just a handful of games (3 or 5) out of the more than one hundred games that I've played already. For me, every game is equally important.

So, we as players can make the choice not to place importance on promos. As for getting RIOT to do away with promos... Good Luck with that!

Summoner SpeII10/6/2019, 3:45:56 AM1 votes

yes, just devalue the high elo players even more after they remove 5 divisions, be like oh i just got diamond i didnt even need to play promos to do so.

warhawk369/20/2019, 5:52:50 PM1 votes

I agree with this. But I think they should keep the promo games that jump you into new divisions

Ie Gold 1 to plat 4 or Bronze 1 to silver 4. But shit like silver 3 to silver 2, get that shit outta my face.
