Idea to make AP Ezreal viable - allow Essence Flux (W) to damage minions & monsters

It wouldn't really affect AD Ezreal that much, and it would give AP Ez some waveclear that is so commonly expected of AP mage mid laners. It would also help his ability to farm jungle.

What do you guys think? Would it be too OP?

It's too strong a buff to AD Ezreal.

The base numbers could easily be tweaked, so that his waveclear didn't become out of control OP. And I really don't think it would be that problematic, most ADCs have AoE spells for waveclearing (Graves Q, Lucian Q, Cait Q, Varus Q, Ashe W, etc).

AD Ez isn't in a bad spot right now, but he isn't even close to OP either, so it's not like giving a buff more geared towards his AP build would be a faux pas.

You misunderstood. Look at Ezreal's passive.

That could be easily circumvented by making it so that his W didn't affect his passive stacks when they hit minions/ monsters.

I don't really think it's necessary. AP ez isn't really meant to be a pushing champ so he doesn't need the wave clear. He handles farming under turret extremely well despite not being fast at it. If you're playing AP ez, then you aren't relying on pushing waves to allow for roaming or denying farm...you're just farming up so you can be really strong mid game, and trying to get a few kills along the way.

What he's meant to do is a pretty ambiguous concept, especially since Ez is such an old champ, and the game has evolved so much. To be serviceable as a mid laner, you need wave clear. I don't see why Riot couldn't throw AP Ez players a bone, and allow his W to damage minions, just to allow him to keep up as a viable mid laner. It's not like the change would make him OP, just competitive.

I see what you are saying. I would just note that what any champ is "meant" to do is always evolving. That said, the general consensus is that he isn't meant to be a pushing champ. "Should he be?" is another topic. I don't think so personally - while not hugely OP or anything like that, I do think it would be too much of a strength to have his kind of poke, mobility, and waveclear. Right now, the best way to lane against AP ez is to push the wave on him and try to poke him when he farms under turret to the point where he can't risk further farm. Giving him waveclear makes this strategy much more difficult to implement so you're forced into picking hard counters and/or to all-in him. That leaves fewer options for the rest of the team.

That said, I'd be for it if there was an equal tradeoff to prevent the above circumstance.

There are plenty of other champs with mobility, poke, and waveclear, though. Zed, Leblanc, Ahri, & Gragas come to mind (among others).

True, but 3 of those are assassins and the other is a (usually top lane) bruiser. They play very different roles for a team.

There's also Lissandra, Azir, and Katarina - all champs with mobility, ranged wave clear, and poke. You definitely can't call Azir an assassin, he's a straight up mage, and he has all those qualities you mentioned, as well as CC (of which Ez has none).

As it is, there's no reason to gimp AP Ez' wave clear, other than to discourage people from playing him that way, or at least to prevent it from being somewhat viable.

if it doesn't grant passive stacks from monsters/minions and the the damage is changed to 60/110/1690/210/260 from 70/115/160/205/250 so ad-ezreal doesn't get buffed to much, it would be a great buff.

I made a post about this here (http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/eMiu3IaQ-ezreal-idea) it addresses the potiental "AD EZREAL OP" aspect but as it is said in the comments; Riot does not want AP ezreal to be viable over AD ezreal.

Ah, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it would be a nice buff for EZ. His AP build is really quite fun, but not practical because he has no waveclear other than his ult. He would be a lot more satisfying to play if you could push out and roam more.
