A discussion about of meta players and off meta picks

So league of legends is a game that brings creativity out of player. It's a game that allows you to play any champion in any role and build anything on them. But I wanted to hold a bit of a discussion on off meta players.

Now I'm not here to complain. It's very satisfying to pick something like barium. And someone, someway, it actually ends up working and benefiting your team (I know from expierence) but I think some people don't understand what crosses the line when you intend to win games. For example. In the recent world championship, miss fortune support was picked. And fox (I think that's what they were called I don't watch pro league of legends much) ended up winning. Guess what I saw in my ranked games the next day?

Let's me clear something up for people. Miss fortune is not a support. 99% of people who play mf support have no clue what they are doing. I've played with and against many mf supports and i either stomped the bot lane, or lost with a mf support because that's how mf support works. Its fine to take inspiration from pros, but you need to remember, these are PROS. They know how to pull these things off. And we as regular players, usually, don't.

I completely support off meta players, let me get that out of the way. But when you pick something so stupid, so bad, and end up losing the game for 4 other people, there is something seriously wrong.

There is a meta for a reason. Sure master yi mid is not bad, but there are other champions that do the same thing he does in the mid lane but better. Does blitzcrank jungle work? Sure, anything works in league of legends. Is it effective? No. When you pick something like that you limit yourself and your team. When you could have picked someone who did it better like hecarim

Im curious to hear everyone's thoughts about this. So please leave a comment and remember to be respectful

You mention PROS when it comes to copying off meta picks. But what about PROS when it comes to META picks? People should also stop blindly following META just because PROS do it.

In my opinion people should forget about META and OFF META and just play what they want to play at that moment. You will do far better with Singed support if u WANT to play it than with Karma support if u dont wanna play it. Lucian is curently meta mid laner, which doesnt mean you should play it over Fiddlesticks mid if you are motivaded to play him.

My issue with off-META picks is that many low elo players often conflate off-META picks (for example top Malphite) with troll picks (for example top Bard). Off-META refers to a champion that is less effective in a role/lane that they were designed for when compared to more powerful champions in that same role/lane. However, people will pick jungle AD-on hit Rakan and say "I just want to try something off-META for fun" and use the term off-META as a defense for their troll pick. Those guys are what's wrong with this game.
