How much harder is ranked compared to normals?

Title. All my friends have started to play ranked and they want me to start playing it, too. One wants me to duo with them and the other just wants me to experience the pain they went through playing it. Thing is, they lost almost all their ranked games so far (their placements anyways) and that makes me scared as to how I'd do. And the flame will probably be double than what it is in norms, and nobody can use the excuse of "its norms who cares lol" anymore if they play badly.

I know people there play their best champs and such, but how much more difficult is it really? I main support and I'd probably only play Soraka, Sona and Yuumi since I'm too nervous to go anyone else that's more """mechanically demanding""" (like Lux and Rakan or something).

You have to understand each game mode has its own match making rating aka mmr. So if you play a lot of normals then your mmr balanced out to people of that caliber in skill in normal games, whatever that may translate to(like if you are a bronze or a diamond player) If you started playing rank your base MMR will be that of a silver player and during the 10 game placement matches the system will figure out how good you are and place you. More then likelyyou will be placed silver if you are half way decent, if not you will be bronze or lower. Once placed you will be placed with other players of the same skill the only way up or down the rank ladder is to continue to play rank. Once you get say 100+ games in rank you can safely say you peaked out and thats about where your skill level is.

Good luck friend. [slayer-jinx-catface]

Considering how absolutely fucked normal mmr is, it might be slightly easier until you hit your actual tank.

MMR is crap and the ranked system is full of smurfs. However its the same as normals tbh. I think its actually less toxic at like s3 to s1 (only ranks i've really stayed in) and its less try hard than norms imo. however if you wanna climb you do kinda have to try hard and play some of the better champs and less of what you like normally. unless you naturally like the op champ lol. It's not that bad. Treat it as a norms without the off meta pretty much.

Wait until you feel comfortable in normal games or you might start your ranked climb in a lower elo than you'd like

If your friends are Iron/Bronze go join them and have fun dude, if they're gold/plat it's a long way to go, watch guides and play lots of normals before ranked

i suggest you do your placements solo and duo with them after so you have at least some basic ideea on where you stand by comparison

it's somewhat the same. it only gets harder if you are actually a good player.
