My power went out in a ranked game and I returned as quickly as possible

I got back into the game and we were able to win 6 minutes after I reconnected. So now I lose LP and I'm punished?

I'm so confused this didn't used to happen and I was a vital part of my team's success.

That really does seem odd... Can't say I've heard of this one before. If no one replies you could try a support ticket, though I don't really know what category you would pick. It's not really something they could fix, but they might at least be able to answer your questions.

I've sent a support ticket about this type of problem before. Back when I was very poor I had horrible Wifi and we didn't live in the best place, so power went out a lot, I got flagged as "leaver" by the leavebuster system. This is just my opinion, but I don't think it's right to punish someone who is already at rock bottom because their parents are poor. The account I was playing on got a permanent ban off of a game where I came back and solo carried. I was in bronze at the time, so yeah this is a really long time ago. I came back and carried the game ( I went 20/0 or something crazy), and to my surprise, there was a, "you have been banned" notification. I sent a ticket and explained my situation. They told me they wouldn't do anything and I shouldn't rage quit so often. They told me I shouldn't rage quit. I was very confused because I heard that riot knew the difference between dcing and leaving, but this guy tells me that I shouldn't have rage quit. Support ticket probably won't help. They do no research on your actual problem. They look at the basics and nothing more. You left, you deserve the punishment is their motto. I'm in a better place and I don't dc anymore because of trash wifi. It's weird how I'm not banned from rage quitting on this account. It's almost like I was never a rage quiter in the first place.

TL;DR: Riot isn't going to help you. You could blame their lack of wanting to do research on your behalf or you can blame it on the kids that complain constantly about losing because of AFKs. Doesn't matter, you're not getting the LP back. Or at least that's my prediction.

If you're able to come back and stay in the game you shouldn't be losing LP at all - that's really not fair. Why bother trying to come back at all then if you DC?

Yeah that'll teach you to have your power go out! How dare you not have 3 back up generators run by hamsters >:^(

They do it so that you can't still get LP for you AFKing and then your team managing to pull a win through sheer luck and perseverance.

I think it has to do with a ratio of time AFK to time in the game. I think it's 10% of the game's time counts as a loss for LP, maximum 5m, minimum 2m.

While it sucks, there isn't a way for Riot to objectively identify the reason for the disconnect. From their end, it all looks the same and so they treat it the same. Yes, it's not fair, yes, it sucks but even if you have a good story and 'proof' that you got disconnected you could always go unplug your modem and it would look like you 'disconnected'.

In the grand scheme, your team won, you can win again and it's only 16 LP. Life happens and sometimes it's unfair as hell, but you got to keep moving forward.

Well thats rude. you shouldn't lose anything if you were able to recover from it.

I read this on their help page a while back, but basically Riot's stance is: even if it's just bad internet connection, they don't think it's fair for your teammates so you still get punished.

I got kicked out of a match yesterday for some reason, then it just disappeared. Instead of reconnecting it took me to the client's home page.

That's weird, but it's also only one match so in the long run it's not a big deal.

It may still count as a win for your MMR which is more important than your LP, but I don't really know.
