Is Tear on Sona optimal?

I've tried many builds on this mana hungry ward goblin and I've come to the conclusion that droping 720 on a tear at around 17-20 min is a minor investment to finally get rid of the mana costs that plague her. You need to be able to pump out your abilities to swap between auras, get the right power chord, and to actually get use from you heal. Without tear, I feel she just doesn't function as a proper support sometimes.

If Im not getting a tear it's because Im going super greedy AP build with lichbane :^)

Tear on Sona sounds like something I would try on ARAM, or in the RGMQ. But on SR in the support role, I simply can't delay my support items for a tear, and I'm not sure I can stack that thing fast enough if I don't rush it. I also wouldn't build it Unless I knew I was going to get the Arch angel staff, which I feel would be unlikely on a supports budget.

And Aside from that, I find myself with plenty of mana regen, just by getting tons of fairy charms. All of which I know I will build into something useful later on. And you can get 3 of them for less than 400 gold.

I think you need to realize Sona isn't a heal bot. Use w to reduce damage dealt to your team. This approach would reduce some of your mana issues. 300k mastery Sona main here, and have stepped away from building archangel for over a season. Sona Malphite

At times I've built tear on her. If you can get an early kill or two (or assists), it's not a terrible buy. You don't even bother upgrading it till like 4th item, just sit on it as a mana battery. Otherwise, I'd avoid it.

It's crazy how one can buy 4 items with mana regen and still go oom.

I buy tear the moment i get 750 gold.. It is a must have for ME, considering how poke and gank heavy is bot lane this season. Without tear my sustain is non-existent. Also as first buy i stack it pretty, pretty fast. I start stacking it the moment i purchase it, while leaving fountain i spam spells, while running to lane i spam Q .. I never run out of mana the moment i buy it. Also if the game lasts long enough or if I'm ahead, the upgrade saved me 102952 times with the shield, also the AP it provides makes her spells and heals even stronger- so basically never ending - stronger heals. Combined with ardent and redemption - my mana is never ending. I never used dangerous game, because every gold piece helps Sona, she is a very item reliant support, in order to get CDR and other stats too. I genuinely can't understand Sona players who don't get it. Without it, heal, Q, speed spam at mid/late game is impossible to do. But I also can't blame others for doing what works for them. Sona heals are actually very potent with the right combination of items + tear..I typically do Soraka levels of healing in the long run, considering how safely, often and without 'almost' any cost i can use them. If it's end game, I even sell my boots for Spirit Visage, making me extremely tanky , my self healing trough the roof and act as a second tank in a sense. Too bad her early game is so abysmal. Yesterday We did a 5 minutes non-stop siege and I spammed heal + Q like crazy, until we finally won.. My team couldn't even believe how long we've lasted with my never ending heals and shields. Without tear it wouldn't be possible and the enemies could have a chance to recover and turn around the game.

I often roll into Lichbane or Morellonomicon after I finish Eye of the Watcher. Both of those items offer substantial mana that gives her what she needs.

Some guys say yes. Some guys say no. Some guys make it to high elo building it. Some people criticize the notion.

Honestly Sona shouldn't be in a state where "What the fuck do I build" is this confusing to begin with due to all the shit she needs at one time, but hey Riot games, right?

item 2301 item 3504 item 3107 item 3190 item 3174 or item 3100 and boots should be enough Mana Regen to keep you flowing. Plus the Mastery Meditation (The Mana Regen one)

Just my opinion lol.
