Massive quintessence imbalance
I just found out that all the quintessences have different degrees of value compared to the normal runes. I've been playing league for years but never caught on to this until now.
These are a few ratios of 3 quintessences compared to 9 normal runes in a proper category.
armour pen 0.64
ad 0.80
health regen 1.60
health 1.02
MR 1.00
CDR 1.00
Magic pen (reds) 0.77
Health at 18 0.68
Armour 1.44
As you can see health regen and armour are way more stat efficient than some of the other things. I was under the impression that all things were somewhat close to 1.00 until I looked at health regen quints and noticed something was wrong.
It looks like the less effective quintessences are the ones with the more valuable in game stats (more expensive and less ways to buy them.) This makes sense in a way, but shouldn't this just be the case for all runes so they can all have a 1.00 ratio? I thought the runes were balanced around having "bad" runes (like AD yellows) that don't work very well to prevent abuse cases. The fact that there are "bad" and "good" quints at least in comparison to other runes creates small but invisible advantages that most people probably overlook time and time again.
The thing is that if the quintessences are all equally balanced in terms of worth then the other runes aren't. For example if you want health regen and health then the correct choice is to get health yellows and health regen quints, since those quints have a better ratio.
I think they ought to normalize all the runes to their quintessences so it's a 1.0 ratio, but that might create some weird balance issues that I overlooked. Oh well, I'm done thinking for today. Even if this doesn't change, though it's still good to know so you don't mess up your runes :P
only applies to bonus armor, I think they should restore armor pen runes to their original state of 15 from reds and 10 from quints.
