Rito Take Out The Trash!

phirestarter··22 votes·4,500 views

I see a lot of posts trying, desperately, to explain how mmr/elo and matchmaking work to people. It's comical and bizarre at the same time.

The problem isn't the system, the problem is that the system has no integrity, because riot is not cleaning out the system of the garbage which is elobooster trash accounts exploiting matchmaking in order to plant accounts on the other team while boosting their own mmr and rank.

This is not the account of a player! This is the account of an automated bot. This account's sole purpose is to destroy the game of the team it is on: http://i.imgur.com/Kaawgcu.jpg

I've made several posts proving what I'm saying, and now that I have a pretty sizable list, it becomes easy to predict which games of mine will be thrown by troll accounts: #bronzelife going into game with elobooster troll bot

http://i.imgur.com/wUJ2xWF.jpg

It's taken me very little time to put two and two together. Riot Games cannot possibly be this dense. So if they are not dense, and know about this issue, why have they not taken any steps to combat this issue?

It's a cancer, it's growing, and it's going to destroy you.

update 4/8/2015:

Wow, this is still here, that's unexpected. So now I feel obligated to offer some sort of constructive solution of my own...

Well, for starters, I would first go after the low hanging fruit, and if I was really serious iterate from there.

It should be fairly straightforward to identify troll accounts which have 3, 4, 5, even hundreds of 0/0/0 games. I think that it would be a safe bet that after three 0/0/0 games, within a predetermined timeframe, an account should be suspended pending further review.

Why wait until an account literally ruins HUNDREDS of games, like this account here:

http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-history/NA1/216133446

before anything is done? After 3 such matches, it should suspended. There is no reason I can think of whereby you have 3 games in a row of 0/0/0 in ranked.

you should be a garbage man, your good at carryin trash

phirestarter6 votes

dude, the trolls now spot you trying to carry and reconnect in order to feed, so carrying a 4v5 AFK match is no longer even a solution.

Only solution to save my main account, apparently, is to give up and pay the eloboosters to get you out.

Sailor Mint2 votes

It's showing her at ~222MMR.

I probably know the answer (mistakes were made) but how did you tank your MMR that low in the first place?

phirestarter4 votes

That's higher than my mmr.

I'll tell you why, not that it should matter, last year was my first season.

Pre-Season, I made the mistake of listening to someone at a gaming place who said that "preseason doesn't matter, it all gets reset at the start of the new season"

So I took that as an invitation to do all sorts of things I would never normally do, like play new champs in ranked, etc... I was like, it's pre-season so it doesn't really matter.

I was totally wrong of course. If I had known I would never have done that. When the new season started, I was like, I'll climb out, no worries, but as I tried to climb, I would get these games where something was fishy...

tofutime1 votes

How often does this happen and why are some of them winning? is there a bot on the other side?

Axests1 votes

lol your mmr is lower than 222? That's straight up bronze 5 levels of trash. My proof this season that elo hell doesn't exist is rising from bronze 5 to gold 5 (before i quit playing ranked, it's all about that victorious skin). Not sayin you're bad but at those elos it was pretty easy to dumpster everyone in game and win by yourself.

RouterSmiter2 votes

OK this concept was hard for me to but then i figured out I had friends, JK NOT RLY LOL, buying elo boosters is the last thing you want to do. if you duo q with someone in silver this would help you alot

Toothierosprey31 votes

My friend won a 4v5 with an intentional feeder. As adc Thresh. Never give up hope.

Sukishoo4 votes

Those are some very interesting stats some of them have... like how one match is all like 0/33/0 and the next is 24/5/11. Yeah that's not suspicious at all... how have they not noticed that :/

I Kill Commies3 votes

lmao an account that does that makes its elo so low...

as long as you aren't bronze 5 you will never have to play against an account like that

oh wait...lmao

usul12022 votes

How do you propose they do this? league is one of the, if not the, most played games in the world. Riots staff is not that big. A 'report bot' button would be abused to the extreme, especially by 3-4 man premades. If you do it based on items, then the bots will just buy different things. they can start a supp item and sit in lane forever under turret to get gold for it, as some bots already do.

This isn't a problem that can be fixed with a nice button that says 'remove bots', so if you're gonna be this salty, how bout you give your own ideas.

Puri Puri Taric1 votes

why dont they just put captchas in the lobby or in the game in the beginning like a "what is in the picture"question so u put some numbers and letters in. As long as the bots cant solve this they will be busted. Maybe put this in champ select or the lobby early on. Might be annoyng as fk but League is the most played game in the world some have to pay a price.

usul12022 votes

Unfortunately, capchas have been cracked for a while now, especially the quick number related picture ones. It uses the same software that reads checks and whatnot at ATM machines to automate that. This is why sites like google (who previously used them for url shortening through goo.gl) have moved on from them, as they only unnecessarily add customer annoyance.

Puri Puri Taric1 votes

so u wanna tell me the captcha that i gotta use on THESE forums are completely useless ? if so why bother forcing me to type em in ?

usul12022 votes

They're not completely useless. breaking a captcha isn't exactly easy. to troll forums, it's generally not worth it to create a captcha making bot. However, people make money from elo boosting, and that is certainly worth the money invested in a captcha breaker.

phirestarter2 votes

It might help some, but....

http://www.zdnet.com/article/inside-indias-captcha-solving-economy/

Furthermore, the people running the software are probably sitting right there so they can solve it themselves.

phirestarter2 votes

I can't give you some miracle elixir to solve everything.

From my point of view, it seems like every other game I play has these bots on it and it appears to be getting worse.

I feel like one solution is one that they won't like, and that is getting more human eyes on the problem, looking at match histories, etc...

There are all sorts of things that can help the situation. Bacteria and other stuff is always going to cloud a swimming pool eventually, that doesn't mean you stop chlorinating it. You are always going to have pests and parasites, that doesn't mean u just throw your hands up and say we can't do anything.

usul12024 votes

Riot can't afford the number of human eyes that it would take to solve this problem, there's just too many players. (I bet they didn't think that that would be one of their biggest problems when they were first starting up). But seriously, this is the issue they face. I have no doubt they're trying, because it does hurt their game, but there isn't some magical elixir to solve it, so Riot's hands are tied. I do believe that riot bans the ones they can prove are bots, but that's a time consuming issue, and one false ban (i had internet issues that day, but wanted to play. me mum dragged me out to rake leaves) causes a whole lot of issues, so they can't go at it willy nilly. The issue is depressingly complex.

Puri Puri Taric1 votes

i dont know if you cant play properly why bother starting a game at all. This will make you think more about thing like "do i really need to play right now " do i have actually time?" Is my connection stable?"

if you have a conspicuous match history i see no fault in regerously punishing. And no make the machine learn who to punish false punishments wont affect a large playerbase anyways. No need for human interaction here untill customer support complaints come in. And im pretty shure the bot users wont go through the same waiting and complaining procedure all the time.

If we want it more precise we would need ip monitoring or something similar and that sht is forbidden.

And riot already created a tribunal replacing bot so why dont they create a line for that bot that he looks for conspicuous Matchhistorys on already repedeadly reported accounts. If they made a bot-tribunal they certanly can do a fukking "if <conspicuous matchhistory> then punish that account. "

They got the moneyz time to invest some bigtime rito

usul12021 votes

While it pains me to say this, assuming people to be smart/rational on the internet just isn't a good assumption. to put it simply: people suck. and the people that suck will generally raise the biggest stink when they think they've been offed. a quick look at the forums shows that. all complaints (many petty) and very few compliments.

As for that machine, the bots will simply adapt. go into lane with a item 3069 and earn gold. every time they die, buy the next item from the core mobafire build. painstakingly easy to make for a botter, incredibly annoying to find from just a match history.

Puri Puri Taric1 votes

but it would be a start and botters would need to write more code. And if the rito-bot can adapt just put those bots in their own low priority que . Like this the botters wont notice that their bots dont play with real humans. A simple elobot vs elobot farming and seperate em from the real human players so at least riot can monitor the names of those accounts. And the human playerbase can play a normal game

Didnt silkroad online have a similar problem ? i thought they did something about it

Puri Puri Taric1 votes

Here some bots from 2013 or so

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTrHCZrrG6A

usul12021 votes

Following Auto-attack bots are simple to write, and are guaranteed to earn at least some cash, so help buy items and mask themselves. I've seen a few of them myself in coop vs ai games. It's effective.

Puri Puri Taric1 votes

still the accountname could be saved by the rito-bot and be put in low priority elo bot vs elo bot mode so they split bots from real players. Shure some players will suffer as the system learns .

usul12021 votes

But how do you single out a player who goes into a lane and sites there popping heals on CD, and getting items (you'll notice a lot of leveling bots play soraka for a reason now) and a bad soraka? There just isn't an efficient way, especially when they're buying items. Any reporting options are negated by the lack of tribunal, allowing premades to just report people and would stuff them into a bot Q, where they would of course, QQ and cause issues.

usul12021 votes

The amount of code needed to write to make a champion move a set distance to a turret after buying a few items is incredibly simple. finding those bots would be neigh impossible, especially with the large number of people who follow the moba-fire cookie cutter build. The coding to find such a bot would be incredibly complex, and have to sift through thousands upon thousands of games.

Puri Puri Taric1 votes

thats why rito already coded an Tribunal bot. But one day the game might be filled with bots playing so good they dont even know they are no real players but until then i not gonna play anymore anyways.

usul12021 votes

Tribunal bot has massive known issues, like premades reporting someone as a group and causing chat restrictions or bans because of the number of false reports.

You're free not to play, but it seems kinda petty. the number of bots in normals games at least is abysmally small. I truly only notice them in coop vs ai games.

Occams Raiser1 votes

That is easy to stop. Riot is just not that good of a company when it comes to coding. LOL is like Christianity. Someone had to be the most popular.

usul12021 votes

I'll ask you the same as I asked the others, Whats your solution? If it's 'easy to stop' then how do you plan to do it?

Occams Raiser2 votes

You code for repeat action. Looking for a pattern of behavior and the time intervals between the actions. If the bot is simply coded it will respond to stimuli the same way every time. I can tell the difference between a bot and person in a matter of minutes. We are looking to shot down accounts so even it took one or two games to compile the data needed to permaban an account that would be nice. The ban would be automated so an account wouldn't even make it to level 6 before being banned. That is how I would fix it.

Test:

  1. Does the player chat more than x times
  2. Does it repeat itself or what others say
  3. Does it move and does it follow other player pathing
  4. Does it attack like LOL AI (it attacks you when you enter its ability radius) on millisecond precisions
  5. Is the timing at which it follows and makes course corrections the same as another player
  6. Does it build and does it cs on average to other players on its team. Does it kill jungle monsters
  7. Does it auto attack for a specific amount of time without movement
  8. Does it B to base with near full health or mana often. x times
  9. Does it have self preservation (walking to towers to die and running from threats)
  10. Does it combo skills, drop abilities all at once, or cast abilities at static intervals
  11. Are these behaviors similar throughout game history

ATTENTION: This account has been banned pending further investigation. Contact us if you feel this has been done in error.

This is not hard to code for. These are just some checks I came up with while writing. I bet this could be done with about a 100 lines. Shit I know it is under 500 lines of code. That is one dude's week at riot. They don't have 40 man hours to fix a pervasive problem?

usul12021 votes

1: @time = rand(r)+100 say [chatOption3]; 2: chatOption3.length = 83; 3: move location(currentX+rand(20)-10, currentY+rand(20)-10); would create strafing in lane, and plus, I honestly don't think there's a resouce efficient way to track what you said. 4: AttackDelay = rand(250)+100; measured in ms, to account for a persons reflexes. 5: random number generator on an unnamed seed. all timings would be different. 6: make it play support. the role is always open, no CS is needed, and a support like soraka can just watch their carry's health and heal to get assists. 7: again, my strafing code, and the fact that it's a support. 8: recallWhen(health<=X || mana<=Y); 9: if(enemy.distance<<enemy.distancePrevious) {move location(baseX, baseY)} 10: Again, supports like soraka. poke on CD. heal if(carryHealth<=X && health >=Y) 11: everyone's activity looks the same. this one would look like a support main that mains soraka, sona, and perhaps nami.

There, your bot finder no longer works. Wanna try another one? (note: all move commands are read as a click @ 'location', a simple mouseEvent)

Occams Raiser1 votes

I want to see if anyone else responds to you. See if they agree with you whole cloth.

phirestarter1 votes

I updated the post with a solution which won't solve the problem, but it will easily eliminate a certain percentage.

Players with a series of 0/0/0 games in ranked, after a certain number, should flagged and suspended.

usul12021 votes

And then some kiddie with bad internet gets angry. if you look at all the linked accounts, every single one has some frequent games that they play well. this could just be an awesome player with god awful internet. where is the line?

phirestarter1 votes

Having myself been an unjust victim of LeaverBuster I'm very sensitive to this possibility.

However, there is some point in between 3 and 20 games in a row, that you should be allowed to go 0/0/0 before being removed from ranked and/or having your account banned.

Let's start with that.

Are you saying there is no such number?

usul12021 votes

I'm saying if you put in a number, the bots will simply be coded to follow someone around and get a random score. Feeding and getting assists (soraka bot) would be a larger detriment to your team than totem-pole bot. And then the people who do have issues connecting to the server (Mac client says he-...... it would finish that, but it DCed again) would be punished unjustly ,as you said.

Occams Raiser1 votes

Are you a coder? I don't think its that hard. Have you sen the way bots play?

usul12021 votes

I actually have several years of education in computer science, thank you for asking.

The bots that Riot made are designed to teach people the basics of the game. They are not designed to win. A bot can be coded by riot to analyze every trade and to punish a player for every single mistake. They might still lose to human creativity and the great players in LCS, but they would be far better than the average player.

Occams Raiser1 votes

I thought we were talking about external BOT accounts being used to farm for noobs.

usul12021 votes

We are. i was using an example.

Puri Puri Taric1 votes

hm make the captchas timebased and change while typing maybe ? some random sht that cant be solved by not so complex bots if they are not infront of the pc thats what i assume is happening.

Or just ban rigerously for conspicuous match history that is not caused by "lag" or something like preventive bans so that at least for a time until affected players complain and get their accounts back troubled players can enjoy a bot free game

usul12021 votes

All of the things you listed are very difficult from a computer science standpoint, and if creatable, are easier to counter than to create. the solution is for people to not buy Elo boosting, making the bots not worth making. This is a fantasy solution however.

I can't upvote this post enough. While it's not a huge issue in higher tiers (Plat/Dia+), in Bronze and Silver it is present 24/7. I don't think I can go five games without having an elobooster account on my team. Some are so obviously bots I end up dodging.

There are even times where my support will disconnect randomly, but I'll brush it off as a troll. Then my top laner and jungler will also dc.. "Huh, that's weird. Wonder if Riot is having connection troubles?" Then I'll get "attempting to reconnect", notice my bandwidth has spiked to 170Mbps (completely filling my tunnel), and poof, it's a 1v5. Despite using a proxy on my Skype, even VPN's aren't an option, because the moment I disconnect from it to reconnect to League with a new IP, it only takes these skript kiddies about 2 minutes to find my IP again. It's not hard to find players that "magically" end up playing every single ranked game 5v2, with 3 disconnects on the other team. Every. Single. Game.

I know that DDoS'ing isn't a problem Rito can solve, but having a publicly stated punishment (such as a permaban & reporting to the proper authorities) would be a start. And having a method to report these eloboosting accounts would be amazing (c'mon, lets get the tribunal back up).

Just my two cents.

Offended2 votes

Just got placed with three, yes THREE accounts that fed 9 kills and then disconnected. Literally right after reading this post.. C'mon Riot now I'm mad.

Bronze 5 - 0 lp - Thats actually a possible rank?

ive know several ppl at that rank. :p. they are thick. but if you explain to them that they are the root of the problems. they get better quickly.
