Interesting use of Maokai's new ultimate
Maokai's new ultimate seems fairly difficult to use effectively because of how slowly it moves. You have to predict where a fight will go to get the "best" use out of it, since the root duration scales with distance traveled. A lot of times, it seems easiest and most reliable to use it point blank, even though it only gives a 0.6 second root, as opposed to the full 2.4 second root after it travels. However, there is a very interesting facet to Maokai's ult that makes those point blank roots more satisfying and useful!
Maokai's ult can root champions more than once. https://i.imgflip.com/1oiso0.gif
The gif might be a little small, but, you can see Vlad get rooted point blank for a short time. Then, as he is chasing down Janna, Maokai pushes him into another root, where he is rooted again!
Considering the short duration of point blank ults, this is extremely useful for Maokai, especially given the bent formation of the roots! If you angle the ult correctly, you can either trick the enemy into running into the ult again (most players are used to CC abilities only being able to affect them one time, or having a cooldown on being able to be hit again) or knock them into another root yourself (or have a teammate do it!).
Anyways, just a cool trick I found out by accident while playing Maokai! Hopefully people can make good use of it!
