PSA: Not everyone wants to ban people for saying GGEZ or think they are comming murder

Cowseed··6 votes·1,227 views

So the 5th post about this has reached the front page and some people don't seem to get why people still say easy so I'm gonna explain. It's because they either find it funny or just plain don't care.

And before anyone comes with the "but oh they're spitting in yourface" or "oh it's the intent" let me clarify if the person was nice all game you feel that way because of your personal issues. No one is "spitting in my face" or whatever because I see it for what it is: harmless banter. I see this on every fucking post talking about this that hits the front page. They compare it to some of the stupidest things I have ever heard. One person on a recent post called it bullying. BULLYING and gave some very stretched out argument about how people can end up killing themselves becase of bullying.

People need to stop. abusing. words. to. try. to. force. persuasion! When you do this everytime I personally hear you talking about bullying again I will close my ears because I know how loose you define it.

I've also heard people just grouping every single one of them as assholes for doing this very small action that doesn't barely even has much bite as an insult. Sure this dude who's been pretty chill all games and forgiving for all mistakes made on the team is just suddenly an asshole because he said 'ggez'. Wow. I didn't know that. Let's immediately ban this dude for typing four letters.

And the most recent argument I heard: "Riot doesn't ban for ggez as far as I know but look at it this way: if he gets reported for ggez 2 games and on his third he is actually toxic then the system can identify him more easily" This is a bad way of thinking and the only things that can come from this is: Your report wait goes down so when you actually meet a toxic person who ints, trolls, griefs, is racist, sexist, homophobic etc you remove your agency in being able to report this guy or if your report doesn't lose weight you bog down the system with throwaway reports that serve no purpose and the automated system wastes time tracking players who's worst deed is saying ggez. That or they run into some asshole who's a troll and get pissed, flame them and get banned for being 'toxic'.

I'm not telling you to not feel how you feel or whatever but I'm just trying to say when people don't wanna waste reports on 'ggez' or are trying to explain why they are not necessarily toxic don't just assume these persons are toxic. Don't be toxic to them because you think they are. Also before you hit that report button actually think about if they were really toxic.

Post was not my best writing but I just had to address the persons who think like this but have some very crappy justifications. I don't want good people getting banned for not being 100% nice and filled with butterflies.

This also goes for people who think that all of X players player base is toxic. Stop trying to force community devide by labeling everyone and everything toxic because of personal experience.

I will still report everyone who says it, my team, enemy team, dont care. If you think isnulting the other team is ok, you get reported. End of the Story.

Cowseed3 votes

Do you report for fountain dives, mastery flashes and laughs then? :D

And what do you want from the reports? Bans?

Raoul6 votes

none of these are insults. Telling the enemy team that beating them was easy is. Plus, in 9 out of 10 cases, the one saying "ggez" is the one who lost the lane hard and got carried by his team!

Cowseed2 votes

But ggez isn't an insult in many cases. As you actually stated yourself.

he one saying "ggez" is the one who lost the lane hard and got carried by his team

Why would that necessarily mean that he's saying it was easy to beat you? Why couldn't it mean we were easy to carry?

In contrast if it's the person who carried hardest said it then It'd be okay because at that point it's not an insult it's the truth and/or his opinion of the match? :/

You're the type of person nobody dares to jokingly insult because they know you'll get offended

Also the type of person I would hate as a friend

are you my friend? no! My friends are allowed to insult me as a joke! Random strangers on the internet are not!

I have a black friend who allowed me to call him the N word because we are bros, that doesnt mean I go to every black person I see and say "Yo NI* * *R whats up!"

please tell me how they have no intention of insulting me? nobody knows if they have that intention or not. We are not in front of anyone who says this. All we have to go by is some random words. Why do you have to add the ez part? wouldn't just a simple gg be enough? i don't know anyone that is saying these things, why are you jokingly insulting others when you don't know them at all? The way you act with strangers and with close friends is not the same. You know what to say to close friends, you know how far to push them. You do not know how a random stranger will react to your comments. Not everyone has the same amount of patience or will take things in a joking matter.

A) Broad, sweeping statement. Not necessarily true.

B) It's almost exclusively used to rub in a defeat.

The thing is, letting people be shitty is how you attract shitty people to your game.

We're just asking League to buck up and make it uncomfortable enough that some of the toxic people go back to Smite, or whatever the lame fuck they do when they're not ruining League of Legends for other players by feeding or trolling lanes and then finishing with 'gg ez' whether they win or lose (by no credit of their own).

'ggez' does not help anyone. It is not constructive or good sportsmanship to call your competition 'easy.' Frankly, I think post-game chat should not be cross-team-- enemy teams seldom have anything useful to say ever, in League. Hell, most of the time, your teammates haven't got anything good to say either.

Seriously, punishment is one thing this community needs way more of. The fact that smurfs are so proliferated speaks to how comfy the rules are.

Titanium702 votes

Gonna spare talking about sportmanship and things since that's wasted here, but let's put it this way:

Here is the newsflash for guys like you.

If you meet a big guy in a store and shout "haha as*hole" the second you crab the shirt he wanted... there a two options:

A) He's a friend of yours - laughs and moves on. / gf beats me once more in ygo and says easy since I played horrible (once more) I laugh and move one.

B) He's a stranger -- FIST -> Your face / A stranger beats me in an online game and has the nerfs to write easy (despite playing horrible, usually) -
REPORT -> Your face!

Got it? Friend.. Stranger... what do you think fits and classic game of League better?

And from an Fairness And Sportmanship point view... I will report anyone from any team despite win or lose who writes 'easy' in all chat, for negative attitude as well as insult - period. And if enough people are doing this... this stupidity will end soon enough, one way, or the other.

Uh no, it's basically saying not everyone shares this sense of humor. So what are you trying to say? Because this offends a small demographic of sore losers I should stop? Because your lack of a sense of humor offends me, as well as your insistence that the rest of the world not have a sense of humor because you have a set of bunched up panties.

Grow up kiddie, you're everything wrong with the world today.

you call me a sore loser for reporting my own team when they insult the enemy team?

I call you a sore winner if you have to rub it in like that.

But well, explain the "humor" in saying "lol, you so bad, beating you was easy!"

Because somehow I dont see the joke here.

Just as soon as you can explain what you have to be butthurt about, because somehow I don't see the serious here.

See what I did there? This works both ways. Get over it.

Oh thats pretty easy. LoL is a competitive game and in a competitive game, there should be a basic level of respect between the teams. Insulting the enemy team because they lost is respectless and shows very poor sportsmanship!

Also, nice way of dodging my question because I am pretty sure you cant think of any way how it is funny for the team you insult to get insulted.

Hahaha, okay.

I respect my enemy team enough to consider the possibility they are humans rather than bots who want us all to conform and join their humorless army.

There is no insult except what you make out of it, in a VIDEO GAME. That's your problem.

Firing off the "gg ez" after a 40 minute match, that's humorous. Firing off the "gg ez" after a 15 minute game, that's humorous, and also true. Winning a match where you have a KDA less than 1 and dropping the "gg ez", that's also humorous. Are you advocating deceit? Because last I checked, that's generally considered to be an evil course of action. At least the latter example was funny.

Anddd that's about all the respect I have to give you today.

Seriously, you remind me of that guy we had to take aside and have a serious talk to back in school, who thought and bullying making fun of the other kids with his group was fun because "we were laughing"

They also said we should learn to have some humor and insisted that it was funny as hell to see them break into tears...

Sounds like part of the growing up process to me. It is inevitable others will have a laugh at your expense. It is kind of sad actually, that people are essentially being trained to take their butthurt to a person of relative authority. Do you really think people have time for your sensitivity problem when there are much, much bigger fish to fry and limited resources for the flame? Grow a backbone, roll with it, maybe you'll learn to laugh at it yourself too when you've all grown up.

Perhaps you are onto something though. Weakness on that level is quite humorous.

Ah yeah, found the school Bully, i dont think i have any more questions... People who are strong or in power are supposed to protect those who are not. I always hated the people who misused their strength. And with every Bully it was always the same. Once me or my Group came around, they ran. Suddendely they didnt feel as strong any more.

On the contrary, in my earlier years I was the recipient of bullying. I'm grateful for the strength and experience it has given me. I'd imagine most people have been subject to this at some point in their life, though they likely don't see the value in it.

Me? I appreciate the fact that I can laugh at most things (which can actually keep me out of trouble) and if it were to come down to a fight, I'd not only have fun whichever way it went but I'd be more likely to cave my opponents face into a fountain of bloody tears.

Banter:

noun; the playful and friendly exchange of teasing remarks.

Nilok1 votes

Tease: Verb; make fun of or attempt to provoke (a person or animal) in a playful way.

Ya, "GGEZ" doesn't fit that definition. If someone roleplayed the whole game as classic Gangplank that would be banter, but if someone blasts at the end of the game out of nowhere "GGEZ", that is just insulting their effort.

Also, it is really hard to be playful if you have no tone and only words on a page, so with no prior context or lead up to show that you were trying to be playful, it isn't.

Cowseed1 votes

Also, it is really hard to be playful if you have no tone and only words on a page, so with no prior context or lead up to show that you were trying to be playful, it isn't.

So the 15-60 minutes prior to them saying this doesn't provide context?

:/

Nilok1 votes

Not really. You need to build a rapport with someone before you can expect a phrase that can come off as an insult gets taken on good terms. A few short interactions doesn't lead to any solid context. That is why I gave the example of someone roleplaying as a classic Gangplank, as that is something you do over the entire match.

It is the responsibility for the communicator to converse in a way that allows the other party to understand them correctly. Expecting the receiving party to implicitly understand them is expecting them to be psychic, or simply smarter and more empathic than them.

Cowseed1 votes

But even in your example the person would have to know what they're roleplaying to even know that they are roleplaying.

I, personally, don't know what it means or implys to roleplay as classic gankplank. Even so I'm probably not going to out-right label the role player as toxic from the get go and at the very least try to understand what's going on.

And also yes you can build a rapport with someone during the time a match takes to complete. That's where many friend request and the implementation of the friend system comes from.

Nilok1 votes

"Yar, I'ma take ye down ye sea dog" "Ah! Ye got me! But avast, you an't see the last of me!" "Ha, I told ye I was the most dangerous of the sea!" "T'was an easy fight, now where's me arm?"

It is very hard not to know, as being known as roleplaying means actively communicating like the character.

Yes, you can build rapport that makes the insult not an insult, but that is rarely, if ever, the case that causes people to be reported. If someone makes the effort, great, that when someone say "GGEZ" that almost not the case.

Cowseed1 votes

Yes, you can build rapport that makes the insult not an insult, but that is rarely.

No. It's not rare. It happens alot when you flash your mastery and your lane becomes an ingame competition between you and the your opposing laner. You can also be a generally nice person the entire game.

Heck I had a game where I jokingly spoke in all caps and cursed all game. My teamates completely understood it was a joke.

It's becoming quite plain that you're trying to view this in isolation along with the other persons supporting outcasting these people. Well at least you were.

Nilok1 votes

Flashing your mastery can also be seen as ego boosting or taunting if your opponent isn't aware of your intentions. The same can be done with spamming laugh. Without context it falls into the same error I spoke about earlier, assuming your intentions will be interpreted the way you expect with limited communication.

Being a generally nice person implies that you were interacting with your opponent and that is a great example of building rapport, the other person gets to know you and your tone, even from the text. However, many of the games I have been in, where someone says "GGEZ" at the end, that is almost never the case.

or you could just say "gg" and be done with it and prevent yourself any sort of misunderstanding. But no, you would rather INSULT people and then say it's in "good nature" or "humorous" and call it a day. You don't know any of the players. You don't know how they will react to such things. Why is it necessary to add the ez part? you are not respecting anyone by saying "gg ez" all that shows is unsportsmanship. Most people already do not like losing and all you are doing is adding salt to the wound by saying "gg ez". Is it that hard to simply drop the "ez" part? are you somehow unable to function because you cannot insult people over the internet and then say to them that they need to get over it because it's no big deal?

People will bitch and moan about just about anything nowadays, so I don't concern myself with the "bunched up panties" demographic. There are so many more actual inappropriate sayings/actions that are actually a problem in League, that I just look at threads like these and laugh. Really? Your problem is people having a sense of humor rather than the almost inevitable intentional feeder/actual shit talker in every single match? Get your priorities straight.

"sense of humor" sorry but that would mean what you are doing or saying is funny. Saying "gg ez" isn't funny to anyone but yourself. Insulting people that you don't know isn't funny unless there is a very clear tone followed with whatever is that you said which is almost nonexistent in the form of text. Sorry but all i hear from you are excuses. There is no reason for you to say "gg ez" at all. A simple "gg" is more than enough and saves you a lot of trouble. I can report the feeders and actual shit talkers as much as i can report people who think that saying "gg ez" is funny and something they should be allowed to do just because they can do it

But it was my report which pushed it over the edge. It's just so satisfying knowing that my action was what punished that asshole or even made him permanently lose his account, in which they possibly invested lots of time and money. Feelsgoodman.

And I really don't see how taking whole 5 seconds of my time to click a button equates that I can't face down my problems in any shape. But hey, assholes will be assholes - and here I have no intention in continuing to argue with one.
