When to go Crit and when to go Armor Pen on GP

Hey there, Onwodori here.

Yesterday I had a game with GP Mid in which I went

item 3078 item 3814 item 3158 item 3142 item 3053 and then hesitated before I built item 3031

The hesitation stemmed from my lack of other crit items - sure, when IE crits 20% of the time on a build like this, damn, they'll feel it. However, would have building something more defensive or item 3147 been better by that point? I guess I'm looking for a good rule of thumb, when to split the build between crit and pen or when to double down on one of the other. I went Edge of Night early because I was against a Veigar and that's pretty self explanatory, but after that I could have gone crit.

Thoughts?

Pen-plank is pretty much dead imo.

I gotta agree with this. Going tri->IE->ER or shiv is just a lot stronger. The crit build including essence reaver also allows you to have a different kind of boots, maybe swiftness or tabi depending on your match, so you don't have to use ionian's every time

Is that because it doesn't hit the damage spike early enough? I'll take your word for it though (But Edge of Night is *really nice on him)
