Need some help understanding ranked...

So, I started playing League in late 2014 (December, I think) but I didn't really become active with it or take it seriously until around June. The more I played, the more I started to enjoy it, and managed to rank up to 30 around mid September. I'd just heard about the ranked rewards, and so I wanted to try out ranked to just see where I stood and maybe get an icon or a banner while I was at it. I did my promos, 3/10 games were wins, and I made it to silver 5.

Since then I've played around 400 normal games, but never again did I touch ranked, until last week. I got stomped. I'm sitting at a 25% winrate in ranked right now with 16 games played. I know I'm not instantly going to be good at ranked, considering I haven't played much. I would just like to know what it takes so I can start winning games consistently, rather than 1 win for every 5 losses. It's depressing when I put in a lot of effort into these games and I just can't seem to win, especially when I'm matched with people who have hundreds of ranked wins to my 4. It just feels really unfair.

How many games did it take you guys to start doing well with ranked?

i've been playing for 4 years and i only got gold 5. you have to keep learning and improving,

that being said, i wouldn't recommend playing ranked all the time as a way to learn and improve, you should play normal games so they're not so stressful and you don't go on tilt from losing streaks because normal games don't matter. with time you will improve.

my first season playing, i didn't play ranked at all. too intimidating.

second season, landed bronze 3. was expected.

3rd season, silver 4, was kind of proud of myself for learning enough to get out of bronze. it's basically the same as bronze but you feel better about it lol

last season i got gold, which was fun, but still think i can go higher. i'm always looking to learn and improve, unless i end up in challenger i know there's always something i could be doing better. as long as you strive to improve you will do fine. accept that sometimes you'll get your ass kicked and end up in bronze. no big deal really. we've all been there.

it's just a game, try to enjoy it :^)

It doesnt matter if you are playing ranked or normals, its the same game. The only difference is people in ranked tend to try harder. That being said, if you want to win more games in ranked you have to get better. Meaning you have to continue to get your ass kicked and learn. Chances are you will fail a lot before you start to be successful. There is an even higher chance you will be demoted to bronze. But if you keep playing, you will learn the game and climb back out. I understand how discouraging the game can get, but as you have discovered, it can feel quite rewarding.

I suggest you keep playing ranked even if you arnt doing so great, keep a cool head on your shoulders and look to learn before expecting to climb. Take some time to "study" videos of other players or watch educational streams/youtube videos. Dont be afraid to go into a custom to practice either, i still do here and there and im gold 1.

There is no short easy way to win in ranked, you just have to learn.

treat every game differently and constantly ask yourself

"with the score right now, and considering who im playing and what i know, champion positions, flashes, wards, what should i be doing right this second." "should i be pinging the map to set something up." "why did i die to that gank"

if you do that every like 2 minutes or so, you'll do amazingly well.
