PROJECT: Ekko is too similar to his base skin.

Out of the three new PROJECT skins, I feel like Ekko's is the one that doesn't really fit. His base skin already has futuristic particles and sound effects, so why did he get a PROJECT skin that just gave him slightly more futuristic particles and effects?

When you look at the other PROJECT skins, they're all pretty much about turning some human warrior with realistic particles into a futuristic cyborg. Well, PROJECT: Ekko just turns Ekko's futuristic particles into different futuristic particles. Riot have said before that they try to avoid making skins that are too similar to a champion's base theme; so how did this make it through? I feel like he would have been much better suited to a skin line that completely changed his feel, rather than giving him a 1350 RP base skin upgrade.

Don't get me wrong, I think the skin itself looks cool, it's just that there are so many champions that could have gotten a really nice PROJECT skin that completely changed their feel in place of Ekko getting a skin that just feels like a retexture.

Project Ekko looks really amazing.

I think Riot went a little different with the stories behind this set of Project Skins. If you look at the Project skins before this it seems like they were almost completely robotic with a human conscious. This time it seems like the skins are humans that were Cybernetically enhanced to reach a new level of ability. On the concept of the Skin feeling too similar, it's probably because Ekko's default is based around Hextech, which looks similar to Project in nature but is something completely different. Granted I think they did a really good job of designing the kit to look visually different from his base skin and keep the whole "Time Alteration" feel around the champion.

Plus, Ekko's a pretty popular champ so a Project skin for him would bring in a lot of bank for Riot, but I didn't want to bring that up at first.

But green particles! Although I already have a mod for Academy that solves this. Ah, who am I kidding, I'm still probably buying it.

I think Ekkos particles are just too well suited for the project line. After all the project line is full of holograms and ekko is pretty much the champion who has already holograms in his kit(well they are time anomalies, but they look like holograms).

Also its not uncommon for people to actually want riot to make skins that are just so fitting for the champ. I remember that when Lee got his boxer skin, everyone was like "hurr why doesn't vi get a boxer skin?"

In the end I'd say the skin theme is similar to Ekkos regular one,but it is still different enough to stand out.

Well, if it's similar to his base skin, you can count on it costing less and still being awesome.

Honestly, besides Kat (which is funny because hers is by far the worst), I thought this round of project skins was kinda wonky with the choices of character. I mean, I could see Diana Garen Irelia Riven Quinn Talon but like OP said, Ekko is so close anyway, and idk... Ashe just doesn't seem like a good fit for the Project line (Although the skin looks great, don't get me wrong)

I generally don't think its too similar, this design is more machinery and robotic compared to default ekko which is more steampunk.

I mean they both have a sci-fi look obviously but they're two different genres of sci-fi and I think they made enough change to make them diffirent, I doubt I'll ever look at both models and mix them up. Also the light blue and the neon green are pretty different aswell.

my only real problem is that the visor on his face looks kind of shitty. I think he would look a lot cooler if it covered his whole face, that's just my personal preference as it is, it looks like a poorly made custom skin with really good particles so i think i'll stick to sandstorm I really enjoy playing ekko and am actually quite disappointed with the quality of the skin

Same goes for Nami and her Deep Sea skin. Not even sure what's the point of making this anyway.
