Amumu and His mana

Amumu and his mana,

I main amu and sejuani, Sejuani seems like a breeze to play when I have been playing Amumu, I can't afford to give mid blue, because if I do, and I use a Q to grab a creep or to land a gank, it's half of my mana, i'm done, it's either Q OR R, I don' t get to do both, unless I have blue of course.

When I play Sej, I can Q,W,E multiple times without even reaching 50% of my mana.

Can Riot please revert the mana changes made to Amumu, they are awful. (they were made around the same time as Cinderhulk)

First off, you shouldn't use Q on jungle monsters. Then, did you try the item 2032 ? I find it solves most of my mana issues.

You're right that Amumu is quite mana hungry. On the other hand, is aura is so strong that he needs to be mana gated to not use it permanently. I think he is in a good spot at the moment.

Hmmm, guess I'll give it a wurl.

In the I gave it a shot, sets me back quite far at the begining, only had time for one game, I won it, so that's an upvote, more testing to be done.

Thanks a lot for your help

I took a quick look at the most recent Amumu game I could see. There are a couple things I'm going to point out that you do differently than I do. If you disagree or don't want to change your approach, that's perfectly fine.

  1. I use Runic Armor instead of Veteran's Scars. You heal enough from base health regen and your jungle item to quickly make up for the difference in max health even without accounting for potions.

  2. I use Insight instead of Perseverance. 50% base health regen isn't really worth losing the cooldown reduction on Flash and Smite. Flash lets you set up plays or position your ultimates more frequently and Smite cooldown helps your jungle clear.

  3. I use Strength of the Ages instead of Bond of Stone. This provides a decent amount of health early game and I personally don't find the damage reduction on Bond of Stone worthwhile outside of support tanks.

  4. I typically build Frozen Heart (or at the very least Glacial Shroud) after finishing Cinderhulk (though I may grab Haunting Guise beforehand if ahead). I have a good pool of health since I have Strength of the Ages, Cinderhulk and (potentially) Haunting Guise at this point, so I can grab Frozen Heart for a significant amount of mana and CDR.

While I will typically take the second Blue Buff for power-farming and ganking, I can go without. Either way, I'll have a large enough mana pool that I am not reliant on Blue Buff by the time the third one spawns.

If you really have an issue with mana sustain, it might be worth taking Meditation instead of Merciless to see if that helps. You lose a little damage but gain a noticeable amount of mana sustain.

Other differences I noticed:

  • I max Q second instead of W for the shorter CD duration and increased burst damage. While this increases the mana-cost, I don't really find that to be an issue.
  • I don't use Q to clear camps unless I have blue buff. I typically just kill them using W and E.
  • I use Scaling MR instead of Flat AP Glyphs so I have a slower clear than you do, consuming more mana.

Hmmm,

Thank you very much for your feed back, I haven't really taken much notice to my mastery's, I kind of just play using a basic setup.

I will look more deeply into it and consider making changes, what you said makes sense, again, Thanks a lot.

Il'd rather you pointed out what exactly? XD

i cant really tell unless i watch your replays you see. whenever i play amumu, i dont have mana problems in the slightest. i use Q on monsters only when i have bluebuff or i can manage it with my mana household but aside from that, you should really get hunters potion, probably after your smite upgrade.
