What should "support" mean?

So their is always a bunch of talk about how much people hate supporting. Most people understand it as "the other guy in bot lane", but should support be described by what lane they are in? While i love to support, i also understand that it is the gimped position. While i can carry as a support, in general what supports i play are the champs who can get away with having less gold and less stats on their items, so the team can benefit from the adc having more gold and the utility my items bring. So i am curious, how do other people define support?

A well designed support should:

  • Have little damage/waveclear
  • Needs ally participation to some extent for success
  • Can function without much gold/items
  • Excels in duo lanes, subpar as solo laners

Its really only a gimp position if you make it out to be, I have been enjoying Support for the longest time. You are basically the decision making early game If you are playing a Tanky Support, Whereas if you are playing a Poke Heavy your mission is to make sure the enemy ADC doesnt get as much farm/cs, or not to focus the ADC while trying to harass!

its all what you make it to be. If your mentality for a support is just someone who wards and stays bot all game you arent going to get far in the role/game. Support is so much more than that as i have explain its just a bad stigma people assume for support just being the odd man out!

I main support, having started with Janna, switched to Soraka when they gimped Janna's range, and on seeing the rise in Soraka bans I did a brief excursion into Sona but discovered her kit is too short-ranged for my playstyle.

So now I main support with Karma, being an unlikely ban, and also an unlikely target for nerfs as her E is already a last-pick psychological weapon. Karma is viable at pushing turrets when the ADC roams, and can present a force not to be under-estimated in 1v1 fights.

Supports can spend their wealth on itemization that prioritizes lane advancement rather than pure attack/defense buffs, and so I'll usually get a item 3512 and item 3060 to help push the lane, along with the requisite item 2049 for map awareness and item 3364 for providing anti-assassin coverage.

Well before S6, was a great role. Yes had ots issues then, but so much fun. Now it feels super gimped.

I define it as the "strategist's" role in low elo. As most supps are the only ones playing smart. I find it funny how supps manage sidelanes better, map awareness, itemization better overall in low elo.

Being weak or team.focused brings new peespective to match.

Higher elo Supp Mains pretty much live up to that and then some more, more, more.
