Good Top lane champs to main?

...I just typed this out only for it to disappear on me. -salt-

I'm a support main who just got out of Bronze, and as much I want to keep my dream alive of climbing the ranks (albeit very very slowly) as a solo support I figured I should have a secondary role too, juuuust incase my dream gets crushed ;n;.

My particular fear is if I'm first pick top lane, what's a safe pick for then?

These are my top three support champions if it helps any Nami Braum Soraka

In the limited cases where I have gone top lane I've found I most enjoy playing a tank top, (Chogath Gnar <typically these two) where even if I lose lane I can just farm and be somewhat useful in teamfights via cc. But I know that doesn't always work and there are other playstyles.

On a side note, is building item 2049 or evenitem 2045 on a tank top a bad idea? I often feel vulnerable top lane because of lack of vision, and often wonder if its worth getting a sightstone so then we could have vision both top and bot side earlier on.

Thanks in advance! :D

Maokai trundle and jarvin are extremely useful even when behind and all three are very "supportive" in that if they don't take the kills themselves they basically spoon feed them to the carries

Whatever you do, don't main Garen.

Stick with Gnar, he is the safe pick. Or get good with Darius and you can carry.

I would do Gnar, Trundle, and Jarven with the current meta. All 3 can go tank or damage and Gnar has the range in the top lane. If your good with Gnar, stick with Gnar. Zac is also surprisingly good right now too along with Keld.

With your vision situation I would never build item 2049 if your top. It's the support and jungles job. If you played a roaming top like Rumble maybe.
