Need advice on playing Azir.

idontplaythemeta·12/18/2015, 3:33:00 AM·4 votes·2,598 views

So basically I figured that Azir would be a fun n champion to play as he is strong and reliable. I got into a pvp match and boy is he hard...

Fuck this fucken stupid ass piece of shit LCS champ of fucken difficulty. I'm sooooooo god damn fucken salty after that piece of shit match. Omg was I fucken horrible with him. He is reeeeaaallly hard! I sware to fucken God getting 6 hexakills with urgot in a ten minute match with 5 afk's on your team is easier than doing good with this stupid fucken bird.

I apologize if I sound like I'm raging but I've made it my goal after almost being In tears playing this impossible champ. So I'm asking for advice. And this may be a champ that comes with time when you play him in order to get a feel for his abilities but idk.

In that match the only thing I knew how to do was escape. But I was fucken useless as shit for not being able to do anything else. It was either run in there and fuck up all my abilities then die or run away and lose half my hp from one hit from somthing since I was lvl 7 when others were lvl 11-12. Fuck this bird I'm mastering him. Build wise all I know is he needs a nashors tooth.

So I got his escape stuff down. Not perfect but that I see easily getting the hang of as practice him. It's poking and using that damn ult effectively that I can't seem to grasp worth a hit.

If your that person that says "ur bronze u shouldn't even play high skillcap champions until you get to be a better player you should try -insert champion name here- before learning Azir" then fuck you idgaf I haven't seen a bad Azir in bronze que, and I've seen around 6 so far. Not all bronzes are horrible fuck ups. That's just the shit they put on YouTube for ratings. I've seen plenty of good players in bronze. And afk's rarely happen anymore. People stay positive like waaaaaaaay more often even in tough 3v5 situations, (we fucken won that btw). It's all advertising. There are still a once in a blue moon games that those end up being true but it's rare. So don't tell me I'm a total nub and can't play a high skillcap champ. I was able to do lee sins combos correctly within a few matches. And even the first match I did fine. Just wasn't using him to full effectiveness. But Azir? Like wtf I sware I felt like I'm lvl 4 first time moba again. I died 3 times in a fucken bot game with him trying to see if it was just a bad game plus it being a first time Azir. It wasn't doh. I was just legitimately fucken horrible with this high skillcap champ.

I'm asking this to any azir mains out there. Any detailed advice on playing Azir including build paths? Not just general help on how to play Azir on which I can get from google or YouTube. If there is like a detailed guide that someone made a link to that would be great as well.

If you read the entire thing GJ you get nothing (still salty from how bad I was).

Oh yea, one other tip. If you ever get 1st pick in a draft and plan to go mid with Azir, ban Fizz. Fizz is just cancerous to lane against as Azir.

Azir's strength is in his soldiers.

My advice when using him, stay behind the minions and use one soldier to farm. If the opposing mid goes to farm, use your q to send the soldier at them. It will slow them and give you some free hits.

Save the other soldier for escape. And always save the ult for escaping or splitting their team during teamfights.

But Azir's soldiers benefit from AP and Atk speed items. So Nashor's Tooth for the AP and Atk speed, Morellocomicon for cdr, ROA for the stats, perhaps a Zhonya's for added security, and Boots (either cdr or magic pen)

Bronze Azir main here....I can understand your frustration with him. I too had it when I just picked him up. He is by far the most difficult champ I ever played. Like I said in another thread, Azir is not the kind of champ you're gonna start doing good with after a few games. I have over 250K points on him. That's a hell of a lot of games to play on one champion but I can carry reliably with him now as long as I'm allowed to reach mid-late game without the rest of my team losing too many objectives. Don't listen to anybody that says Bronze players shouldn't play Azir. Play what you love. I'm Bronze and I do well with him at my level.

As for advice:-

(1) The best and most important for you to understand is that Azir is no good at all early game. He will always lose duels to other champions in the early game. That means you should NEVER EVER roam if you don't know where every member of the enemy team is because if you run into anybody in the jungle while roaming, you are dead. That is a certainty. Azir is probably the worst duelist in the game especially early on.

(2) CDR, CDR, CDR.....you should be rushing to get 40% CDR ASAP. Do it however you want, runes, masteries, or only items but make sure you get it by level 13. By level 13 Azir is max on his Q and his W and with 40% CDR, he is ready to fight.

(3) Understand his powerspikes. I build him many different ways but I'll give you an example of one build I use regularly. I start with 10% CDR from runes/masteries. Early game I farm up for a Morello and a Lucidty boots which gives me 40% CDR. That's a power spike for me. By that time I know I can start roaming and helping other lanes but I avoid any 1v1s like the plague. Next I start building Liandry, starting with Haunting Guise. With a Haunting Guise, I now have to power to duel squishies but I avoid bruisers like Warwick and Irelia. Upon completion of Liandry, that's a next major power spike. I can now take down tanks and briusers. Usually at this time team fights start so I start sticking to my team like glue, especially tanks. I stay behind them and poke the shit out of the enemy team and can usually get kills this way because of the insane damage on Liandry. My next major power spike comes when I complete either Rabadan or Void Staff. At this point, no one can 1v1 me except super tanks like Garen. Hell, at this point I can 2v1 even fed squishies....even a fed Vayne(though with Vayne you have to catch her before she ults).

(4) Understand that Azir is dependent on his team. Unlike champs like Yi and Yasuo that can stray safely. Azir should always be with a team member. Never go out alone with him until you have at least 5 complete items or you know where the enemy team is. Like I said Azir is not a duelist. He works best with a team tanking for him so he can poke without the enemy team jumping on him and killing him quickly.

(5) Pay attention to assassins like Fizz, Akali, or Katarina. If the enemy team has assassins, you need to be aware of their location and how fed they are at all times after the laning phase. If they have a fed Fizz running about, you never ever want to go out alone and with no less than 2 team members if you don't know where they are and you want to kill them 1st in team fights. Assassins are more of a threat to you than the AD carry even a fed AD carry. Assassins counter Azir very hard.

(6) This point is not essential to playing him effectively but it will help immensely......learn how to drift and how to do the "Shuriman Shuffle". The Shuriman Shuffle is where you dive the enemy team and ult them to a more favorable location for you or your team, like under your turret or close to where your fed Vayne is so she can slay them. You can even use the SS 1v1 to secure a kill. His ult has a low cooldown so don't be afraid to abuse it.

That's all I can think of for now. Hopefully a Diamond Azir can come and provide you with even better tips. GL playing the best champ in LoL ;)

Hey, as someone who picked up Azir like 4 days before the nerfs in July (lol it kinda sucked) I know where you're coming from. Azir is by no means an easy mage to master, nor do I claim that I am any kind of godlike on him. I play him once a week maybe, but here are some things I've noticed that help me to go even or (hopefully) positive, and not feed. First off, best piece of Azir advice I've ever read: 'If people would just completely ignore the other 9 people on the rift and just focus on cs for 10 straight minutes, they would be unstoppable.' I know that isn't exactly easy to do, especially if you are laning against a more aggressive matchup, but cs is crucial on Azir. You don't have a strong early game. You can't shoot for a level 3 first blood like Zed (one of my most played champs) or look to farm up and start roaming hard at 6 (as in Talon, Ahri, Twisted Fate). Hard focus on cs. Spend time just using auto attacks to farm and spend time farming with your soldiers in a custom. When I buy a champ, the first thing I try to do is spend 20-30 minutes in a custom trying out abilities, combos, and working on learning how they cs. Minions are free gold and xp. 15 minions is a kill, gold wise. Secondly, rushing a nosher's tooth is not something I've had as much luck with since the changes to his passive. You used to be able to rush morellos and nosher's and have full cooldown reduction and insane attack speed too, with close to 200 ap, and mana regeneration, and on hit damage, and grevious wounds. It was a bit too strong too quick. Now, I find it easier to rush rod of ages, morellonomicon, or athene's, based on the matchup. Nashor's is much more situational/late game than it used to be. Thirdly, watch Youtube. No really. There are a ton of helpful people on there who have videos with Azir combos, matchup analyzing, and general tips. Fourthly, your statement "It was either run in there and fuck up all my abilities then die or run away and lose half my hp from one hit from somthing since I was lvl 7 when others were lvl 11-12" concerns me. I don't main Azir, but I play mid more than any other lane, and my favorite champions are Zed, Talon, Anivia, Yasuo, and Ekko. I know what it is to play high skillcap champions, and climbed from Bronze 5 to Bronze 1 over the course of the season playing champions like these. (But that's another story.) If you get behind for any reason, whether its lag, ping, first blood, getting camped, etc.; just sit under your tower and farm. Play defensively. Attempting to make plays against fed opponents from behind is never a good idea, and when the champion you are playing is a highly fragile mage that is reliant on levels, items, and perfect positioning as well as micro mechanics to do well, it's not going to end well. Not attempting to flame you or anything, just pointing out something that helps me. You can reach a point pretty easily as Azir where you are free gold to the enemy team. Solution, farm up, use minions to catch up on gold and xp, and re-enter the gameplay when you are much closer to your team and the enemy team gold and level wise. Its easier for your team to play 4v5 for a few minutes while you go and farm hard (this is where good csing helps a lot) in a side lane then it is for them to be 5v5 but you run in and die, making the enemy team's lead stronger. Lastly, don't give up. Azir has a high skill floor as well as one of the highest skill caps in the game. JUST BECAUSE HE IS HARD DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN'T DO IT. YOU CAN DO IT. Practice makes perfect, especially with high skill champions. It may take a long time: as I said before, I bought Azir in July, but didn't start to do decently with him, playing him a couple times per week, until probably September. I've been playing Zed for close to 16 months, but learning how to do decently with him, mastering more advanced combos, good cs (I average 65-75 by 10 minutes on Zed, 125-160 by 20 minutes) etc took a lot of time. According to lolking, my Zed averages are now 16/5/7 per game with 279 cs, but I also have 164 games on Zed. (I know Zed isn't Azir, and I know Azir requires much more micromanaging, but Zed is one of my most played and is also high skill cap so I'm using him as an example. Bear with me.) It to your advantage to stick with this, because despite what the people say, you can climb layers in Bronze playing difficult champions. Next season, where I'll have much more time to play ranked, I am hoping to wind up in Silver or Gold maybe. You can do the same or go even farther. Just stick with it. Azir is the quintessential practice makes perfect champ. By the way, I like walls of text too. Can you tell? XD

Fizz is a very easy match up for Azir. If you manipulate the wave properly to zone him out early he's done. He can't do anything until he hits level 6.

I was gonna call bullshit but then I looked you up and saw that you're Platinum and you also main him so you might know what you're talking about ;).

Fizz gives me the most trouble by far out of all mid laners. From the time he hits level 3, he becomes deadly. I usually die no matter what shortly after he hits level 3. All he has to do is wait for me to use an ability and he just all ins. I've tried not poking him at all so I can have my Q to drift out whenever I feel he's going for the kill. However, when I do this, he just zones the fuck out of me. If I even try to cs, he just all ins and his all in is so fast that sometimes not even a drift can save me.

If it's not too much trouble, could you explain what you mean by manipulating the waves and how exactly it limits Fizz's power. Fizz is a puzzle I just can't seem to solve. I'd really appreciate some insight into this.

new mechanic that can be useful in a pinch.

of course this meta is the one to abuse thunderlords so the optimal way to get teh proc is to soldier on them AA, Q, AA them and boom damage :D, Azir is a sieger, meant to slowly widdle opponents down and destroy them. Eventually gaining lots of utility with passive and mobility, besides his ults amazing power.

My general tips are play the deny game, place a soldier near your low minion, if they come for it, harass, or they lose gold, win win in most cases.

Fizz Cancer Leblanc problematic Zed PAIN IN THE ASS with thunderlords abuse

Anyone that can move around within the span of you Q CD is a problem, as you either need to stand on your soldier, which is usually bad, or just run.

Turret is best siege ever, place one to guarantee a successful push continues, removing any sneak attacks from behind and a safe fallback.

Hope that helps

  1. read both the top 2 lolking guides, you'll get a lot out of them.
  2. understand that Azir is easily the most difficult champion in the game, he requires so much micro gameplay that only the top tier (Dia+) can play him effectively, which is why is winrate sits at 39% or so in SoloQ but he is still regularly pick/ban in LCS play. You need to be really really good at league of legends or have a lot of experience with Azir to play him well (Source: Am neither of those things despite my best efforts)
  3. git gud skrub
  4. profit

Honestly if you really want to be good with azir then play at least 100 normal games so you get used to his mechanics. For mechanical tips always aim for 45% cdr in your items and runes (take cunning,10-15% in runes, nashors, and then zhonyia/abyssal) (15% in runes if you feel that you need it faster). The 2 optimal boot choices are now item 3006 or item 3020 (take berk if they have many immobile squishys, sorc for more mobile enemys to make each stab count). If you feel like you won't be able to win a lane just try to push it in fast with soldiers, take 2 or 3 item 1056, and wait for the nashors powerspike to fight.

AdanYEva12/18/2015, 3:46:28 AM1 votes

get 15cdr pre-game, get thunderlords and the 5cdr, then get 10cdr in ur runes, start with dorans ring and build ionias, nashors and u get 45cdr, that's when he shines, practice micro combos in normals with bots

hes one of the hardest champions in the game. top 10 for sure. if not the number 1. but hes definitely the number 1 spot in the most unfun champion to play. unrewarding at all.
