What to do when...

Here is the situation:

You are queued in ranked, and someone gets autofilled to a role they say they are bad at (not just support, but other lanes as well). Do you:

  1. Trade lanes with them betting on you being better in that lane and them in yours than if you didn't swap. or
  2. Keep your lane and hope they aren't as bad as they say they are in that lane.

I had this happen to me, and I switched from Jungle to ADC because the guy got autofilled. The problem is that my worst role is ADC, and my lane got bodied by their Varus/Lux (I didn't actually give up first blood... that was my supp sona.) Jax ended up devouring the other lanes and eventually winning the game (along with Chogath ).

So that is the question. I like swapping with people in ranked because I want to win, and if someone is good at a lane I feel I should let them have it. I'm stuck in Bronze 2, where it seems like I get a game with really good teammates and get a win, then I get a bad team and we lose. My goal is to climb, but it feels like every time i make a step forward, I immediately go a step back. Plz help me escape this elo hell (inb4 i become a teemo main and just use my little devil teemo skin)

I rarely trade. Sometimes, if I'm feelin' like my secondary would be fine to play and someone wants my primary, I'll trade. If you main one thing pretty exclusively, I wouldn't trade off of it.

On the other hand, I remember the days when you didn't have assigned roles, so I can manage decently in pretty much any role. It's really good for your game to be able to understand what it's like playing other roles, even if you don't do it often.

There's always the option to dodge. Even though it hurts you more to do so it's better to lose 3LP than waste 30+ minutes over 20LP. Unless you're in promos then you're pretty much being held hostage.

I would say if someone isn’t good at a role you ask them to play safe and instil confidence in them and let them know what you will do to help. Then carry them from your main role. In the example you gave above, it’s better you stay in your confident role and carry the game than move to a weaker role and hope the other person can carry. Not that’s you shouldn’t trust others but definitely it’s better you have the hand on the wheel over someone else.

I think you should trade only if you're comforatable in that role.

That way at least you only have 1 person feeling out of place.

Lets say this person picked ADC or Support, got autofilled as top and asked for a trade. The jungler, being the good person they are, offers to trade. Now you have someone out of their best role for someone who doesn't know much about jungle but they know at least it's not top.

So yeah, only trade if you know you can work with that role. Otherwise you really aren't doing anyone a favor. You'd be better off to give them tips on how to survive in their role and trying to stay close to them.

Everyone gets autofilled. It's time consuming, but you want to learn the basics of each role and have one or two champs for each.
