Malphite and Zac

K, so my friend who is coaching me thinks I should try another tank champion to learn with called Malphite Malphite . From what I see, he has a bit of everything I tend to have fun using: His ult quickly closes the distance between him and an enemy, his W not only slows the enemy down, but speeds him up, and is ranged, and overall, I always wanted to play as a rock monster like the ones in LEGO Rock Raiders.

That being said, I like the looks of Zac Zac's playstyle, as well, and I also read that he's not just a good tank, but he can also jungle pretty well. I like how mobile he appears to be, and the fact that he has jungle potential, because even though I am currently trying different champions, I've always been interested in Zac, and I want a good champion to grow and learn with, and learn how to jungle with.

I'm thinking the logical step would be to take my Gold-rank veteran friend's advice, play Malphite, and then when I get enough IP for Zac or once he's for sale or is on F2P rotation, try him and see if I like playing as him. Still, I just want to hear everyone's opinion on these two.

(don't glorify gold-ranked)

Malphite:

  • Much easier to use
  • Q is the movement speed steal
  • Much more reliable
  • Fits into nearly any team-comp
  • Weak early game
  • Burst cc

Zac:

  • Harder to use
  • Requires a pretty good engage-perception
  • Weaker early game
  • Long-term cc
  • Powerful in the right hands

My personal opinion would definitely be Malphite, due to your low summoner level you most likely haven't learned enough of the core league basics to sufficiently play Zac. Malphite is a great beginning champion that is good at all elos, and helps players learn these basic things (warding, engage timing, stat-checking, etc).

Play Zac, be different.

malphite, still has solid damage and can beat a lot of matchups

I'd learn Malphite first, as his abilities are straight-forward and even if you're behind you can still contribute with a good ultimate. Zac is significantly trickier to use and doesn't have as safe a fallback pattern as Malphite's "land an ult on a few high-priority targets before dying."

I guess I'll just get Malphite for now, but if Zac ever goes for sale, I'm gettin' him.

always just go for the cheaper champion in the beginning. nothing worse then spending 6300 IP on a champ you don't end up liking to play.
