How do I not suck at Lols?

I've been playing this game for about a month now, mainly because a friend of mine introduced it to me. It isn't my usual cup of tea, but there's something that I experienced while playing this game that got me a little hooked on it. Something about the satisfaction of mowing down minions for gold, hiding in bushes only to ambush and quickly take out enemy champions, and big gang fights where I have to move smart and dodge powerful skillshots. Plus, it's just a way for me and my friend to hang out and have fun together. But I keep sucking for some reason.

He keeps trying to teach me the basics. Like he recommended that I play as Annie to learn the basic function of various types of abilities and buffs, and Morgana to learn something something and skillshots. He also taught me something called "gauging", I think, where I use a basic attack or W on an enemy minion to see how much damage that attack does so I know when to hit them to collect gold. He also taught me how to optimize my settings, to not run from enemies in a team fight when I'm close to dying because I'm probably am not going to get away alive anyways, and some other things.

I keep getting hung up on things. Like, when to go assist an ally champion, and when to stay on my lane even when they ask for help. What role or lane I'm supposed to be working with the champion I chose. Which champions need to hide behind minions and allies, and which ones go up front. How to tell when I should stand my ground and fight to the death, and when I can and should probably try to get away to save the enemy from getting another score. And other things like that.

I also keep getting distracted and lose focus on what's going on around me when a bunch of action starts happening on the screen, but I don't know why. It's like, in big team fights, I can't even SEE what my champion is doing, and even when I hit my ult, sometimes it doesn't work, and I can't tell why, because all I see on the screen are a bunch of flashing lights and health bars.

I also notice that I'm not very good at multitasking. Not only am I not good at it, but I don't even like it. I still have a hard time trying to accurately click and time multiple moves and skills, while also keeping awareness of what's happening on the map ("map awareness"), while doing something else.

I also notice that I often lock up and sort of do nothing or keep making stupid mistakes when I feel like there's pressure or that there's something at stake. Some games, I do extremely well, but other games, especially when I'm tired (or at least thinking that I'm tired), I seem to have a harder time figuring out what to do, and I feel like I am letting my teammates and friend down when I feed the enemy with these mistakes (i.e., running into gank parties, over-extending and getting hit by the turret or enemy champions, getting too aggressive with squishy champions), and then he starts asking if I have forgotten everything he taught me. So much that I almost start to wonder if I have some mental disability.

I think I just need to practice more and not take the game so seriously, but for some reason, I still find myself getting tense and tilted on games that start off bad. Does anyone have tips or advice on some of these things? Game-wise or psychologically.

All these problems seem like stuff I did when I started. granted this isn't my main account, just an account I use for trying out new stuff. but im ranked diamond 1 on my main account and honestly the best thing to not "suck" (not saying you suck) is just to practice. don't rage at the game, just look at your stats at the end of the game and find things you can improve. Was my CS too low? how many wards did I place? did I have a decent kill contribution? things of that nature. first and foremost you want to get your csing down. try playing bots or custom games and just practice csing (killing minions) then start looking into more mechanics. learn when to roam from lane, learn when to play safe. There is a player that makes videos on the basics of league, check him out and it will help, both Phylol and Scrap computer all can provide you with a great grasp of the game. Good luck, and have fun :)

First, recognize that you've only a level 9 Summoner. You're just a newbie learning the game, so don't take your mistakes too seriously. Even if you give up first blood or miss half your CS, it's alright - you just made mistakes. Everyone at that level is learning the game as well, so don't worry too much. Even us level 30s still do dumb things from time to time.

Second, the best thing I can recommend is to just play the game. You'll get better at things like CSing, landing skillshots, and roaming just by doing them over and over again. Treat every game as a learning opportunity - win or lose, try to find things that you did well, and things you can improve upon. And try out a wide variety of champions, since at the very least you'll be familiar with what they do in-game.

Finally, remember that level 30 is not the end of your learning - in fact, it's really only the beginning. So, take your time with things. The knowledge will come with practice. GL HF mate ^^

Alot of the things you probably see as you just being bad might actually be inexperience. Be patient with yourself. Just relax and try to learn the best you can. Things like map awareness come over time. You probably don't have a mental disability, you just might be feeling overwhelmed a bit. What helped me at a low level was finding a few champions i loved to play finding champions you like should reducing raging.

add me in game, i'll give you a hand...its easier to teach AND play rather than learn from the forums.

honestly this is gonna sound like the most bullshit response but its the truth.

Just play the game, focus on your mistakes and learn from them. most important, just keep playing no matter what. even when you dont think you are improving you probably are. every time you die or lose an objective, ask why. and try to prevent it. eventually you will realize "I cant do this" or "i can do that".

its that simple.

here are a few fundamentals.

  1. last hit as many minions as you can. I believe 2.5 waves of minions or so = 1 kill. so like 15 minions or something like that

  2. try to minimize your deaths as much as possible (this alone has many subsets of skills, such as learning your limits, map awareness, power spike knowledge etc.). Not only does dying give your opponent gold, but it gives them time on the map alone without you to get things done. So you also lose map pressure, potentially objectives. and then you also miss out on minions kills (again further the gold gap) and experience while your opponent continues to farm minion gold and levels.

practicing these (and all that comes along with #2) should keep you busy for a long time.

Also, on the psychological side:

  1. dont criticize other players (even if you do so in your head). this just makes you focus on the bad things and will negatively impact your play, guaranteed. I have no proof but my experiences, but if you don't believe me, try it out yourself. You can instead recognize a mistake they made and learn from it, so you don't do it yourself (although making the mistake yourself will probably help you learn from it better).

  2. stay positive. keep the mindset that you are working to improve as a player, not to win. having this mindset will help you improve quite rapidly.
