1 question:** Why?**

This isn't Swain. There's nothing remotely "Swain" about him. This is a completely original kit of abilities and completely new art (albeit ripped off from Harry Potter which is honestly kinda pathetic...) and a story that you could have EASILY stuck on a totally new champion. (Like someone who is rising to power through demonic influence looking to overthrow Swain. A rival for the Noxian throne) I pulled that out of my rear end in a fraction of a second and it makes ten times as much sense.

This. Isn't. Swain.

in all of my years of LoL, this is the worst champion ive ever seen released. imo he is worse than Aatrox ever was.

His mana return isn't enough.(Struggles to keep mana in lane) His base damage is WAY to low.(Even 3 items in, he cant really wave clear.) His scaling is abysmal(300AP is 50damage on your E, and about 140 on your Q, coming in at a whopping 280damage before MR is taken into account) His W, I'm cool with it being as delayed as it is....but there isn't much reward to landing this almost unlandable ability. (it doesn't do nearly enough damage) His R...I don't even know what to say about his R other than it is completely and totally abysmal, I think its beyond repair and needs to be changed to something else. its a bad ult design.

Overall, his kit and gameplay is fun. But its overwhelmingly bad. Old Swain was so much better, and would be more enjoyable than this new iteration if you just gave him visual updates....there was NOTHING wrong with old Swain.

Really wish you'd stop deleting my favorite champs and replacing them with completely different ones.

O look Vlad 2.0 THE RETURN OF LUCIUS MALFOY

You talked about keeping what people love about champs... did you forget which one you were working on? This all sucks. It just takes his uniqueness away and makes him a bland nothing of a character that is Nothing but a stat pile.

Cool concept, although I'm upset he doesn't have his dots anymore :( Other than that I must say he feels relatively weak. Once I have a few core items he still feels weak and the healing... OH don't get me started on how crappy that feels. I don't even notice me healing at all, what gives? I thought you wanted me to go in with the ult but I feel unsafe doing so.

Showed it to my friend who hadn't played League in a while but liked Swain back when he did.

"So in other words they removed Swain from the game, then added someone new and reused the name"

This Swain rework was a downgrade. It looks cooler than old swain, but that's about it. The old Swain swain was a mage with hard to hit abilities that would reward you with massive damage if you managed to hit his combo. This Swain Swain is a short range mage yet with no tank and one reliable ability to keep enemy champs in his ult range (nevermove, which is something I actually like on new swain), and still has such low movement speed, even with boots of swiftness and magical footwear, that the ult is worthless unless you come up behind the enemy team in a teamfight and immediately die because of your lack of tank. The lifesteal is not enough, either buff it or the actual ult recast damage. In short, the kit is fun, but not as good as old Swain swain.[zombie-brand-mindblown] [zombie-brand-clap] [zombie-brand-facepalm]

probably the worst VGU Riot has made yet no joke or exaggerating. the lore, model, sounds and VA is 10/10 but the actual gameplay is hot garbage.

feels like the Swain team cared more about meeting their deadline than actually delivering a ,Unique and quality product that new players and swain mains alike would enjoy. I have yet to see any red's address the obvious backlash which is a double whammy. I know its wrong and super salty of me to feel this way but I REALLY hope that the team behind the gameplay of Swain see's all this backlash and are reprimanded. I mean this is just...holy shit....WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

They dropped the bird monster aspects for tactician aspect but NOTHING about his new kit is tactical ( and dont even say his W is supposed to deliver on that fantasy because by that logic any smuck with a item 3363 is Tom Clancy).

Passive is just hot garbage and utterly tacked on as a way to artifically limit Swain in such a stupid way and add some forced synergys which I am not a fan of. I dont know why Riot adding forced unnecessary interactions on champions just to give them some sort of cheese similar to how Yasuo can play off knockups therefor he is slightly better with certain champs. the right click to pull immobilized thingy is just random trash tbh.

Q is a mindless spam nuke skill which is NOT Swain. In addition to this its also mana intensive.

Why is W even a skill since you'll never hit it on any half competent player? A skill dedicated to being: a worse version of Clarivoyance/Hawkshot can only be landed in combination with E only useful for sniping inattentive windowshoppers

E Shoulda had a secondary activation that pulled people towards Swain. the Right-click followup is overly complicated and like I said only there so they can force synergy's and thusly a reason to draft.

R is bound to that ill conceived soul fragment mechanic to a infuriating degree. You cant activate R without soul frags. You cant deal meaningful damage without soul frags. Overall the sustain from this ability feels worse than before.

I unironcally don't plan on touching Swain ever again until his second GU tbh. I am actually expecting a Rengar/LeBlanc level revert at this point.

Hello, This is the very first time I post on the boards of LoL, but I feel very concerned about Swain's rework as I really love how Swain was since his release. I come here in the hope of giving feedback that can be seen by rioters to help the team who work on him. I hope too this is the right place to do so. First of all, I'm sorry if my english makes you bleed, it is not my native language. Moreover, I would like to note that I do not own a PBE account but I'm following every gameplay I can so that I have a precise advice. In case this can be any useful, I'm from EUW.

Gameplay I'll start with that. Swain's old gameplay, as it may have feel somehow "clunky" or "poor" gave me mechanics that I liked playing with : I liked the passive, even if this mana regen was feeling "gadget" I like the way I was imagining Beatrice harassing dying enemies to stole parts of them to give ressources to Swain. His new passive kind of keep this feeling with a much more "demonic" aspect and a leeching life mechanic instead of mana. I really like the idea and pretty like what the rework did there. The little plus of pulling the enemy in case of a cc is a cool mechanic. I like his Q spell sending Beatrice (in old time just giving the order to Beatrice to... Fire laser? Against an enemy). What I liked there was the slow, the fact that it becames a skill shot where Beatrice could "zone". Now the reworked Q is some kind of... Electric? And have the mana regen mechanic. I find this spell okay-ish in term of gameplay, there is no problem. His old W was his snare, Nevermove. I really loved having a ccing skillshot. Now, the reworked W is just omg, this is my favourite skill. I love the idea of scouting as being the Grand General. Planning actions, gathering informations (litteraly because it triggers his passive). But the first iteration of the skill on PBE feeled too "damaging thing" as I was seeing it more like "tactical and damaging tool". You made changes recently that are more in this way so I'm totally with you. For me, best part of Swain rework. His old E was a... hum... a ball? Idk, that was something point and click and juste basically doting and increasing damages dealt by others spell. This was meh. His animation doing it was meh too. Now, it is his Nevermove ability, and I like the new way it is. Really like it. And now we come to his ultimate. I loved Swain's ultimate, turning him in a fucking bad ass midway bird human weird thing that was menacing. He was draining life while dealing damages, and just kind of liked taking bath in enemies. But I was sad it was only that, I wanted a more tactical skill, with reflexion behind wether or not activating it. What you did with the rework feels midway. First of all, I'm kind of sad Swain do not send birds anymore. But you did it on his passive where birds fly to him, so for gameplay clarity I understand. No problem. But, this transformation feels... Poor. I know you wanted him to have control. But I don't see anywhere a demonic bird. I just see wings. Beh. So I kind of like his new mechanic but don't like the way it's been realised.

Visual, identity etc. I would like to say I've read your champion insight. Before I start giving my advice on reworked Swain, I would like to say I really don't understand how you could just pass through the fucking birds. I mean, you did really great pieces of art about researching the aspect of the demon bird, I loved it, and you just say at the end "Uh we added birds and wings but it was not our main concern" (to sum up). But your ideas were great! And I just don't understand how, instead of just placing birds around Swain to say "it's okay birds are there now even if it was not our main concern" you didn't just transformed Swain into half this demon bird, to show he is in control, show he's still humain, but make his hand more non-human-frightening-thing-that-is-a-threat-while-you're-near, give him bird-like wings but with an ominous' style, not angel's wings that barely flap... I must say I am disappointed yes. Only the reworked Tyrant Swain have the transformation I imagined, with eyes ornaments on the wings, and a frightening bird head instead of my proposition of his hand/arm being even less human. So now, after this little over the place paragraph, I'll start with how Swain feeled like for me. Swain was, for me, this hidden grand general. He did really greatly hide his strategy, and was some kind of weird/secret person, giving no informations about his feelings (such as pain from his broken leg for example) and very stoic (his league judgement). As I play him, he's often "come on, kind of punkish grandpa, let's move on and just be a secretly nightmare to enemies that think you're just not a threat" as I feel he is so much more powerful (in his lore) than someone can see when he's just walking weirdly as he did prior his rework. For his skins, Northern Front was for me a mix between Swain in campaign in Freljord and Swain with a Russian design. Bilgewater was just fucking pirate and do what you want 'cause a pirate is free. And Tyrant, it was just Swain in his splendor, wielding a staff that he suddenly uses as his cane because of who he still is. Swain's rework now in my opinion. Where should I start? Let's begin with splash art. I really really like the composition of this piece of art, and as I've seen the first proposition, referring to a more "propaganda" splash, I understand from where this splash art came, and I just love it. The design of the hand is just beautiful, "Beatrice" (i'll talk about that after) near Swain is just badass, his clothes are super cool. But... The head just does not feel Swain at all. The first iteration of the splash had the perfect head for Swain. Not the currently. I don't have problem with long hair, or white hair, I use to really love white hair. But with more nuances, I see his hair much more like his rework model in game. But I've seen you were currently discussing this point, so, my only remaining concern is for his head. Swain's face looks like the first proposed splash, where he is more stoic, with less curved eyebrows, less carved cheek, not the one currently on PBE. In fact, it is more about his expression than his face as I write it. For the other splashs, I have nothing to say, I love them all. Now, talking about model, here I go. You said you removed the limp and the cane (I loved the fact he has a limp and a cane so I'm sad they're gone...) and replaced it by a leg brace. I'm okayish with that, but... Before you said there was a leg brace, I didn't even notice it. That's my problem. It is not evidence he has one. I would like to have the opportunity to see it. Maybe show more the leather laces... That's my first point, my second point : I find Swain too massive. I don't know if it is the coat, but he makes me feel more like I'm playing a mercenary than playing that finest tactician. I don't know what to propose to fix that, because I have this sentiment only when seeing his back, since when we play a character we only really see his back while we are in the fire of action. But when I see him feeding his "BeatriceS" for example, I do not have this feeling. His model is perfect despite my feeling, so I would touch nothing fearing to break the harmony you created. Oh, and I love the coat. Last point, as I said, I don't really like his transformation but, I can largely understand it is not changeable, but since, I don't know if the VFX is a WIP, but I find it too flashy, too present (for all skins). He's already floating above the ground, he's largely visible, he doesn't need to glow like a lightbulb, or at least less. As I write this too, I can maybe understand the glow is a clue to the current loading of the second part of the ultimate. But still, this effect is not attractive. Talking of VFX, here am I. His Q is too red!(base skin and so bilgewater) I would prefer something darker. His w and e are perfect. I would see it with more black, the fact it is electricity bothers me, but it is my opinion and it's not enough to want you to change this. So in the end, I would only make it darker. Now here is Beatrice. Many said RIP Beatrice because of the quote of Swain "Which one of you is Beatrice again?" and because we also lose this birdy creature at our side. But your sentence "Let's just say we didn't murder Beatrice... we made Beatrice a murder." makes me very curious. I, for sure, will really really miss Beatrice by my side, but Swain is reworked, I can make compromises. But THIS sentence. There is so many interpretations. I like to think Beatrice is just everywhere. This is frightening. I like it. Ah, before I forget, I love the back animation of Swain, but the one of Tyrant Swain, I really really dislike it. I would largely prefer having the default animation as I feel Swain is having birds as his tools and companions at the same time. As an overall, I feel like Swain is less original than he was before, but that originality was kind of punk and messy, as you stated in your champion insight. So I can understand all the changes, and, after all, a character is defined in his own way by each person that like him. What makes me kind of sad and angry at the same time when I read the champion insight, was the fact that at some point his transformation was not guaranted, it was just THE thing I was afraid of disappearing and it could have been reality. Glad it didn't happened, and I really thank you for your hard work keeping this aspect. And your hard work overall because this rework is really super cool, even if I kind of liked his green color, I easily understand the need to clarify the color pattern of each faction, as I had the opportunity to discuss it with a person close to me that plays league too. I hope Swain will not become a spamming mage with his low cd q, I want him to keep the warlock/general close to his people in the heart of battle, kind of tanky and big threat at the same time.

swain giving players FPS drop

Ciele2/15/2018, 5:40:13 AM3 votes

My first post ever on a forum! Just my 2 cents, feel free to agree and disagree as you wish :) -

Swain was my most favorite champion in League of Legends, and probably one of my most favorite concept designs in video games ever. Now its, someone else with the name Swain. I could go on about how much I absolutely despise this new character, but I think there's already so many people voicing their objections, and let's just accept the truth; Riots not going to change. They've always followed the philosophy of "Sometimes the community doesn't know what they want" and stuck to it. I hate it. I've played it and I hate it still. Everything about the new character feels horrible to use; and maybe its not underpowered or weak; but I hate playing him knowing that there was once a really good and perfectly fine design. A design of mess, and awkwardness and a cluster of themes, but a design nonetheless. Guess what? Not everything in life is uniform and cohesive throughout, I liked the Old Swain for all his themes and references, who and what he was and the mystery behind a broken old man who led a nation bred on warfare and accompanied by creepy multi-eyed bird. I loved it all, and now its gone and it will never ever return.

Someone else experiences Lag when he encounters swain in game? When I put the camera onto swain I get an FPS drop to 30!! and that is with just one swain if there are 2 swains using abilities I can just afk Cause my pc will crash... Someone else having same issues??

jocomotion2/13/2018, 5:21:19 AM2 votes

I'm going to break the mold here and say positive things.

  • He actually looks like the leader of Noxus now instead of an old man.
  • His ult has counterplay
  • He's actually got exploitable weaknesses in lane that can be played around by the Swain and his enemy
  • I think his voice is freakin ominous as hell, and I love it
  • His ult is similar, but isn't the key part of his kit anymore, which I love.
  • Eye see you taking dragon Shyvanna
  • Q=shotgun. I wouldn't blame most Swain mains for hating this ability, but I for one love hitting people with a 96% AP ratio ability every 2.5 seconds. But to be fair the old Q was too oppressive in lane.
  • That passive rewards hitting skillshots, nnnnnnnice.

AND things I don't like:

  • The color red, I feel like swain's abilities where more light purple/blue-ish, I feel like the red is a little too nail on the head for Swain's Noxus-loving
  • Where's Beatrice? seriously? WHERE'S THE BIRD!?
  • I liked the old Nevermove better
  • The limp is still there, but it's a little too subtle, I'm running out of Ideas for complaining.
Zigga Zow1/25/2018, 9:53:21 PM2 votes

In addition to changing is horrible walk animation (his arms dont move at all while walking, leave the coat like it its please!) You guys should maybe change the tune he hums to sound more like the dance, since I assume the new dance is from singing in the rain, I cant really hear it when he hums. It doesn't really sound like it. If you cant do this please revert back to the old dance if possible (since you guys got rid of his old walk animation due to no ICONIC cane), its the only thing we have left of the old swain and the dance was my personal favorite dance.

my suggestion for my complaints: i suggest making him cross his arms while walking as a quick fix of the issue i have with his arms. i would like his dance to be as close as possible to the old swain, if you cant do this then at least match the tune he hums a bit better with his dance. I could be wrong but i think its based off Gene Kelly dance from Singing in the Rain. If I am wrong on where the dance comes from than I guess its fine to leave it as is. Hope you guys see this and at least change the damn walk animation.

Sorry for repeating things but this is my one of the characters I care about the most and thus why im finally posting on the forums before they are released.

Sire Hippington2/15/2018, 8:06:22 PM2 votes

he's just not swain at all anymore.

Why the switcfh from gloomy green to demonic red? No more cane... NO MORE BEATRICE! No Dots... No high uptime ult that requires mangeing it's expotential mana costs Little zonecontroll Wierd spammy zap-shotgun as main dps...

Just nothing really remineds of old swain other than beeing a somewhat tanky mage that likes getting into the middle of a fight, but he feels more similar to vlad or ryze now with his spamm focused Q and without the toggle on ult and neither dots nore reall zoneing. The only thing i kinda like is his new W, and that's a hate-love relationship. It certainly fits the idea of a more stratrgical/tactical focused champ and retains some zoening while rewarding smart and coordinated use. However, as the only 'low' CD semi global damage+CC, it has insane potential in coordinated play and i expect that the rest of his kit suffers for that.

Also, What happened to the lazor-bird?!?

but well, that's about what i expected, most reworks didn't give a damn about the original champ and instead replaced it with a fully new champ under the same name

Zechmeister1/30/2018, 6:17:59 PM2 votes

Personally love the way he looks ,and i tested him on the pbe I like everything you did with him ,but i feel like his bird didn't get much love :( When i look at swain i think of the raven lord that can spam his bird for dmg but his w is now the bird view thing and its a 20ish second cooldown or something close to that. Other then that every skill and the way he plays is absolutely amazing TY for the rework of swain It will definitely make him viable in alot more situations with his setup now.

EnigmaticLight972/12/2018, 8:32:04 AM2 votes

Having played several games with him now I'll give my thoughts.

On the tactician side of things: For the most part he actually feels pretty tactical, I had think far more about how to cast out e and w. There is also some interesting choices to be made for whether or not to use the passive rip. I've probably killed off my adc a couple of times by accident due to helping and enemy close distance. So I have to say kudos to that.

On the power side of things: He feels pretty clunky, while w is interesting to use it feels like there isn't enough payoff to the cost of using it. q feels weird mostly because I'm never quite sure whether it's going to kill the minion and pierce through, or leave it with a sliver of health. From what I've heard Swain so far isn't doing enough enough damage or tanking enough. I haven't had this problem per se, though there were times I felt like damage should have been higher. Part of it might just be that swain is better with certain teams than others. He seems to do well if he's holding the line against being initiated on. Maybe some numbers tweaks to a couple of things would make him feel better, but I don't know if balancing will allow for that.

On the how does it compare to old Swain? front: When I started playing league Swain was one of the first champions I tried on the free rotation. I enjoyed playing him then, but I hadn't unlocked him permanently until just a month or two ago. I've always liked his old lore and in a couple of areas it seems like traces of it remain. Overall though, this is not like old Swain. At all. He feels completely different to play as him, as in a whole play-style shift. New Swain has nice things, but he won't ever compare to how old Swain felt to play.

Overall thoughts: You've made a nice new champion Riot. He has some impressive effects and visuals going on. A shame you had to get rid of old Swain for it. I'll remember him, just like I'll remember all the old lore that I liked better than new lore. I may not have been a Swain main, or any of the others mains, but I'll try to remember them, even if I do enjoy the new versions.

xGunna11/27/2018, 4:08:17 PM1 votes

he has weak snare now

the old swain has a better snar and better big snare hitbox

you basically nerfed swain to the ground he only look badass but his ap ratios are pure shit

my suggestion is either buff his ap ratios

or rework his W + E to have bigger hitbox like the old swain

Phoenix X Tiger2/13/2018, 9:06:19 AM1 votes

I'll start with a couple of obvious ones, the first one is his E not being a fixed range. I think we all thought this at some point during our games when we had a melee champion all up in our business. It makes sense considering his Q does more damage the closer you are to the target but not being able to use your E to catch them sooner to stop yourself from being stabbed to death feels really awful, especially when his kit seems to be made around being close to someone. I think they figured his E would be used to drag people back into you and not to defend yourself, but when your Q has a 10 second cooldown early, your W costs 100 mana and takes so long to cast, you should have SOMETHING to defend yourself.

Another thing I have an issue with is his 5 passive bars that really don't seem to do anything particularly important. I figured they put it below your health bar so it would be more obvious but it leads people into thinking they do something special for his kit, which is where I think all the complains come from. It would feel nice to have them do something and if there's any changes coming, I feel like his passive adding something to his kit would be great but that's just because it so in your eyes that it feels like they need to do something more impactful.

Despite popular opinion, I think his W is fine. In competitive it would be exceedingly useful but in casual it serves the purpose of giving you more healing, a stack of passive, massive healing in teamfights if you can land a good one in combination with an Ori ult or something, a way to peel off some melees. I think the only thing that would need to be changed if Swain becomes more of a casual champion is his W mana cost since it feels like he has no W in early laning phase due to the huge mana cost and just how much that can ruin your flow. Personally, I only ever use it for gank setups and to cancel recalls (probably why it has such a high cooldown). For those complaining it's so hard to land, try not dragging people out of our E until the last moment, that helps a lot (anything besides that is up to your teammates CC and hoping the enemy just runs into it, no use just throwing it out).

I think the worst thing about the champion is the ultimate cooldown. It's 120. That's it. 120 seconds and it doesn't decrease with rank, meaning that in an era where you have Lux ults at 26 seconds and Ori ults at 50 ~, you're stuck with an 120 cooldown on an ultimate that makes your champion good. Having your ult up is essential for every engagement and I feel that with how vulnerable he is without it, this is the most immediate change he needs.

(this is a copypaste from another thread I made since I thought the megathread went off, but let's keep that between the us)

Teridax681/25/2018, 12:18:42 AM1 votes

I mostly like Swain's VGU, though I have mixed feelings for some aspects of his kit. I think his personality and voice lines are brilliant, possibly Riot's finest work so far, though I agree with several other players that his visuals look a bit too close to Blood Lord Vladimir. Additionally, I think shifting Swain's injury from a crippled leg to a not-really-missing arm feels unnecessary, and not really the best for players who either felt attached to that unique aspect of his, or who themselves have impaired mobility and could see representation in him.

I've only briefly tested Swain's new gameplay, and am by no means a Swain main, but from what I can see it is definitely an improvement. With that said, as with some of Swain's visuals, I question certain kit changes that I think were not needed: Nevermove, for example, was perfectly healthy as a ground-targeted AoE root, yet for some reason the two components have been split and made to achieve different functions. The addition of an explosion at the end of Swain's ult, the addition of a health restore on his innate, and even his Q also kind of tread on Vladimir's toes, as these are all features present on the latter's kit to some extent. While both champions are part of the same subclass, and did always share broad-strokes characteristics such as durability, sustain and DPS, this I think pushes them closer together in some respects, though Swain nonetheless plays differently still.

On one hand, I think it should be clear to everyone that Riot had a very difficult challenge when taking on Swain's thematics: in the lore and his title, he is meant to be a master strategist, yet in-game he's always been a bird dude with a fairly generic, and non-strategic mage kit. In this respect, I can understand how Riot wanted to infuse the feel of a general with his new W and a Force Lightning-like Q. However, I still don't think he's a truly strategic champion, and I fail to see how the addition of yet another displacement contributes to that. While I'm interested in the fact that Swain is burstier, and hope for battle mages to be oriented towards burst, rather than DPS, in the future, I also feel like several potentially good parts of his identity have been sacrificed in favor of completely new mechanics: Swain used to be a short-ranged DoT mage with heavy zoning capabilities, which I think can be done in a perfectly healthy way, but now he has a smattering of extra hard CC, utility he never had or needed to have, and a basic ability nuke that outranges even artillery mages. These abilities are all good, and overall Swain's new kit is healthy, while still retaining a few elements of his previous self, but overall I still think more could have been done to retain his strength-weakness profile and gameplay, while still improving upon it significantly and making it more strategic.
