Think ADCs will start taking Randuins?

IcyPepper··9 votes·3,605 views

Because of the new active, it might be a useful defensive item and a replacement for guardian angel (you skimp out on MR, but gain a lot of health to compensate) and make it easy to win trades or clutch a 1v1 with the enemy adc, especially against AS builders like Jinx and Vayne or maybe if you're playing them.

I don't know, but I've heard some adc players already build randuins, and the new active might make it an even better item.

What are your thoughts? Do I suffer delusions for daring to suggest a thing? Am I just wrong and you'll explain to me why? Is it situational? Could it possibly work? Is it going to be the best thing since <insert champion here>'s nerf/buff?

Graves Quinn Vayne

I dont see it becoming core obviously but i think the shorter range adcs could find a lot use in certain situations

KaisadiIIa1 votes

These situations won't occur often enough to justify building this over Warmog's/Guardian angel.

Quinn is the only one I think can use Randuin's properly: It gives her a bunch of defensive stats that help her mitigate damage while using her R, and it provides a powerful slow + AS steroid to reinforce her fighting/assassination potential. Just don't think about her as a standard carry, but as a ranged Master Yi instead.

IcyPepper4 votes

I've never seen an adc build warmogs tho.

I buy it on Quinn for fun when I get really ahead in the game.

Like 7/0/6 in normals at 15 minutes ahead, and there's no way we could possibly ever lose unless everyone starts throwing, hard.

Then I try to have the most HP on the team compared to my toplaner. It's actually really fun :D

good adc play means you attack from the farthest distance to minimize risk of you getting gooned. most adcs have aa ranges longer than randiuns active, so if theyre positioning correctly they should have no opportunity to use the active effect. it could be decent for kiting maokai or something, because it would slow them while speeding up your attack animation (lets you cancel animation faster and walk away while attacking). i could see it being decent on quinn if you can use it during the vault or on twitch if youre assassinating a carry

IcyPepper1 votes

I can see it for kiting 1v1, now that I think about it.

Though I'm thinking more about close-range duelist adcs, like Quinn, Vayne, and Graves. In a teamfight, of course they'd stay at the back, but I'm thinking more of being able to survive 1v1 situations by lowering their dps, increasing yours, and being able to escape or prevent their escape.

Black Coffee 6661 votes

you shouldnt be wandering around without your support anyways

IcyPepper1 votes

The support can leave the adc and go on roam too, especially after the laning phase.

Black Coffee 6661 votes

adc would be building this late game if anything, at which point they should 100% not be alone. if you go to ward baron by yourself as adc youre probably gonna get gooned

CubedJustice1 votes

Perhaps Kalista? Improves kiting and damage output even more so on her than other champions, and gives her a nice chunk of defensive stats.

Salidfingers3 votes

Well if a ADC is that close they are already dead

IcyPepper1 votes

Heh, maybe it can be a support item as well. Leona could take it and maybe take a single on-hit aa item to benefit from it, softening up the enemies.

not jinx. and certainly not with a randuins.

this randuins change is a buff to jax and irelia... and to shitty adc. they get caught out, hit the active and just drain tank with 15%/champ more attack speed. the more out of position they are, the more forgiving makes the as boost the situation.

its a really really stupid idea. i really would like to know what even the intent behind this is. its certainly not a buff to tanks. and if they want to buff bruisers, why are they changing randuins for the 2 that are already the strongest of the bunch?

its the same argument for not buying lichbane on lux. and you knoww hat? it can still be a very strong item on her. because you cant always avoid a champion coming close enought for you.

lets ignore the base stats for a second. in fact, in a realistic teamfight, engage abilities make it almost certain, that a champion can get close enough to be in range similar to randuins. at which point theyre using supports and their own kiting mechanics to wall these champions off. most adc buy 1 defensive item anyways. (or at least should).

now that 1 defensive item will simply be randuins, and theyre going to abuse the hell out of it. they dont have to pay as much attention to positioning anymore. someone actually manages to break through, and they will outduel and kite him no problem.

Omen takes alot of gold from a ADC.

So if a adc builds omen they are cutting a lot of power mid game and if we are talking about late game GA or Banshees would still be a better choice.

But will bruisers will benefit it more. YES!

so does infinity edge. they still buy the item, simply because its effective.

a more tanky adc is not a weaker adc. as you said, after their core items, randuins will be hell of a strong choice on them.

and the bruisers that will benefit from it are already the strongest bruisers. which weirds me out even more. do lategame jax and irelia really need to be more powerful compared to, say darius?

The5lacker3 votes

Considering the active radius is just about half the range of every ADC in the game, I'm wagering...noooo.

IcyPepper2 votes

Like Tectonic just put it, I think Graves Vayne Quinn could benefit from it, rather than Caitlyn and other champs like that.

The5lacker3 votes

Radius is still lower than their AA range, and if you're close enough to get more than 2 people you're liable to get chunked anyways.

IcyPepper2 votes

Hm... well, not when Quinn ults.

I can definitely see it possibly working if you have a Janna to shield you and use her Q to protect you. Especially with Vayne's tumble AD boost with that shield's AD boost.

It'd require some thinking and strategy, it wouldn't be a willy-nilly Leeroy Jenkins item now that I think about it.

The5lacker1 votes

Your argument is "It'll be great on the one Marksman who just turns into an assassin and is the hardest and most confusing ADC in the game."

Erm...wat? Bruiser-Bird Valor? And more importantly, couldn't significantly better results be gotten simply by, I dunno, building Guardian Angel or more damage such as Youmuu's? (Which is a staggeringly fantastic item on Quinn, fyi)

IcyPepper1 votes

makes note to build Youmuu's on Quinn

I can still see it on Vayne and Graves as welll, but I don't know. I'll have to test it first, see if it's useful or not

Shrek Luigi3 votes

it's always been a good item on the brick-sh**house AD carries like Graves. I'd take it over item 3026 any day.

goldensilver092 votes

They may be a little more tanquier, but still Squishy as Heck. Unless you go leeroy jenkins is a bad idea.

For that i think is gonna be a good item for Quinn. The Ult make her go Melee, hiting the enemy yes or yes. A great duel item.

IcyPepper1 votes

Quinn definitely...

I was thinking champions like Graves who can afford to get close to champions like Vayne could benefit from this item especially. Vayne too, with dat tumble of hers.

goldensilver091 votes

Oh right, vayne and graves Low range = Can use Active (You even have the Vayne face... i’m stupid). This change in the item is gona be really interesting. Can’t wait that comes out to Main server in... a few weeks... Sigh...

Amelie2 votes

I think it's still better on a tank/engage champion than adc. To get the most use of the active, you'd have to put yourself in a very bad position as adc. It could be "ok" for dueling, but I feel like if all you want is the attack speed buff then you might as well build an aspd item instead of using your defensive slot for such an odd item. I don't think the movespeed slow would make a huge impact in duels, but depends on the both of the adcs.

lojician2 votes

If the pbe item changes succeed in making duelist fighters actually viable and allows them to duel adcs late-game I wouldn't be shocked if adcs started countering fighter randuins with their own. If everyone just keeps running double ap/tanks top then hell no.

Meep Man2 votes

ADC Urgot got a little buff.

Lore Ventus1 votes

Quinn top will be more popular now.

Drunk Rummate1 votes

spellshield with banshees is too good imo. randuins won't save you from a braum ult like banshees does.

IcyPepper2 votes

Fair point, fair point.

Guess it really depends on the match-up. Maybe Randuins is more of a toplane adc bruiser item, potentially.

CA Crimson1 votes

Randuin's wouldn't be bad on adcs, but I still think that Guradian Angel is a stronger item for them. You usually build the Guardian Angel late game, where 1v1s are rare and teamfights prevail, since it allows you to survive huge bursts (lets say a Vi ult followed by a Syndra or Lissandra ult) making the opponent team ''waste'' there ultimates. Randuin's could be a good mid/early game item, but as an adc you probably want to get to your late game damage as soon as possible. As a defensive item, G.A., Banshee's Veil and Mercurial Scimitar would be better unless, and really UNLESS, you fight a full ad comp. I don't think Randuin's is bad item, it can be great if you want to get tanky quickly after an early game lead. It would be great in a meta where ad duelist are king (Master Yi, Nocturne, Vayne. Tryndamere, etc.), but in the current meta where huge cc champs prevails, cleansing items are just too strong to be replaced.

junglerboy161 votes

It's already my go to defensive armor item as an ADC (I'm not even kidding, the self peel and durability are great for a final defensive item), so this just gives me more reason to prefer it in that niche. That said, the AS it grants requires being inside the enemy team to really benefit from, meaning as an ADC, you would usually only get 15 or 30% AS for a couple seconds (since unless you are already completely screwed, there should never be more than 2 people within range for you to get the slow off).

TotalJerk1 votes

If you're close enough to hit the Randuins active as an ADC, you have more to worry about than an attack speed boost.

IcyPepper1 votes

Not if it's a 1v1 and/or you're an adc that gets close anyway Graves Vayne and possibly Jinx

Good for peels and escapes too.

ADCs used to build Randuins a lot before it got changed/nerfed XD

LankPants1 votes

I already take Rands VS heavy AD teams as any ADC. No matter how much a Zed main will tell you QQS is a Zed counter Rands still does it better.

qetzel1 votes

I think that QSS does it better. You ignore 1 third of his damage. Given the BotRK and Armour Penetration a Zed will buy I don't think that Randuins is that effective.

Let's not forget the extra 80 AD you get either, making MS a better all round ADC item.

NoMonku1 votes

There is no real reason for an ADC to get this item against a balanced team comp. All the pieces and stats offer NOTHING offensive to them until they can complete the item, in which case they are just beefier and will get dumped on by the opposing ADC. Only time ADC may have some use to get it is against a full AD team, in which case they would have built this item ANYWAYS. Even IF they do get it, if they get jumped on, they are most likely dead anyways.

qetzel1 votes

I think not. Typically, ADCs need to be scared of burst damage and DOT from tanks. These are normally magic damage.

There are some exceptions, notably Zed and Talon. However, against Talon you will probably find that buying a Banshee's Veil is more useful. It lets you avoid the stun that would get you out of position and allow him to delete you. Against Zed you obviously want a Mercurial Scimitar.
