3 best lanes I would recommend to newbies
- Support: in lower ranks, it has a tiny impact unless you are so damn god at support so you roam and hard carry the team. I think it applies to at least platinum that the impact of support relative to other positions is the second smallest in game with the only exception that the support is ridiculously good. People might say support is really influential arguably, but then if you have a really good mid or top or jg, the game would be easier to be carried by those instead of support.
-
One of the main reasons why I recommend support to newbies is that you get to learn whole lot more in terms of game, not laning. To dig into details, I mean like if you play support, you have an adc with you who focuses on getting cs, you only need to care about cs when their are shoved under the tower. So you have better vision therefore whether to look at the mini map or other lanes or even their opponents. Furthermore, you can focus on skill shots without worrying about cs, and you realize when you hit level 2 on and on.
-
This is like cause and effect, but as you look at mini map a lot, you can understand where and how to put down wards to better control the game in general. This leads into how to bait in and get objects and when to split push etc. Many different strategies start to make sense(if they didn't prior) and you get to use them by telling people where to go.
- Jungler: one of the most influential role in dynamic ques, but really try hard position.
*The reason I recommend this role is that this one is an enhanced, more influential, but harder position to deal with than support. By playing support, you get to learn several things about how the game plays out in general and what factors are important in winning a game. By playing jungle, you are executing what you have learned by playing support, you play mind games against the enemy team's jungle and you need to make good plays such as ganks, object controls to make moves and control the entire game. Although jungler is really hard and needs players to constantly think about how to play better in and outside of the game.
*Better map controlling than support, you need to read maps to see where the enemy team placed a ward so on and which lane is effective to help winning a game. Next patch nid and kind's nerf will lower the impact of farming junglers, so you need to think every moment to make effective choices as a representative of your team in early and mid games. This position is very hard, but the reason I recommend this to newbies is that it provides venues for newbies to understand the game controlling and help learning important tools such as warding and map reading.
- Mid: the last and most important one. All the support and jungler experiences build up to be a good mid laner. Mid is arguably the most influential role in Rift and has been the most influential. Mid is one of the main damage carries(either ad or ap) and, from the start to the end, how much impact it can potentially have is grand. Let me put it this way, Mid can single handedly carry the game in solo ranked if played well.
- Now the gap between mid and jg is bigger than the gap between support and jg. By going mid, you need to know how to control lanes; when to push and when to care. Also you need to be aware of enemy ganks from jg, support and top. Champs who go to mid usually have burst damage, so you need to learn how to manage your laning so you can kill them without feeding. Map reading learned from support and playing mind games as a jungler come in handy when avoiding ganks and also roaming to snowball. With all the tools you learn from support to mid, you can be a really good player with the right tools and knowledge to climb the ladder.
Reasons why I do not recommend Top and ADC. Top is the lane that gets snowballed by a single mistake and is hard to learn all other tools from the start and is likely to discourage you from playing league. Enemy top laner is gonna put pressure on you while you need to get cs, read maps and avoid ganks. Also you need to know how to teleport to spread your lead better. Top's roaming requires whole lot work than mid does.
Adc is the least effective role in the solo ranked right now. TBH, even if you are good at laning, if your support and you miscommunicate, its hard to snowball right off out of the laning phase. Also, ADC's power splike does not come till very late game and most of the games do not scale into late games. Even though Adc is really important, in current ranked systems, its hard to pull off "Adc carries"
