Cancelling games if a player does not connect

Islam Is Right··35 votes·1,928 views

Multiple other games have features which send players back to the que if a player doesn't connect during the initial joining phase(namely csgo and dota 2).Why this isn't a feature in league I will NEVER understand.

1.It isn't abuse-able

2.There are no real downsides

3.It isn't abuse-able

4.It isn't abuse-able

The only counter-argument you could possibly surmise would be "Well what if the player connects right after?"

Realize this-It takes 5 full minutes(300 second timeout)before the game starts up from the loading screen, lets say that again

5 FULL minutes.

If a player doesn't connect in 5 FULL minutes,we should assume this person will probably not connect for a much longer period.

Seriously,RIOT,there is no downsides to this, and you can just penalize the person with a dodge/afk anyways.

I am all for it. Tired of starting matches where we're missing someone and you're just praying they reconnect in time. Stop punishing me for you toaster.

OP you have to explain more why it isn't abuse-able because some people haven't experience CSGO or DOTA 2.

CS:GO set the initial 5 minutes as warm-up period. If not all players are connected within this period, the game will get cancelled. It is not abuse-able because:

  1. No loss and no gain.
  2. Game not even started, no one gets harassed for bad performance.
  3. 5 minutes is far enough for anyone to connect.

The only drawback is some idiots may think it's fun to waste his own + 9 other players' 5 minutes, but I've never met such idiots after so many game in CS:GO.

Not sure about how Dota 2 works because I've never played it.

How could this possibly be abused? What, am I gonna duo queue with someone who always AFKs if I don't like the comp or don't get role? <aybe that'd work in Bronze/Silver, but when you hit Gold, you'll have to regularly level up smurfs then rank them up to continue that strategy, because they'll often be banned.

That is such a longshot, even in lower ELO.

Except disconnecting purposely to get out of games.

It can be abused.

You still punish them with a leave

This can still backfire onto people who DC before games, I witnessed some occasions people frequently dc then reconnect before each game.

Being disconnected for literally five minutes is entirely different than a very short disconnected right before the timeout. It would be relatively easy for Riot to start the game if you were connected for most of the five-minute timeout period - the client already reports your ping, so it's clearly talking to the server. That way a short disconnect just before the game starts wouldn't be punished, but the game won't start if some either only briefly connected or never connected at all.

Also, in cases where "it can be abused," consider whether the worst case is any worse than what happens now. Suppose the game doesn't start if someone fails to connect. If someone wants to dodge a game, they could pull their network cord and wait five minutes. The game does not start, they get punished for a leave, and everyone else jumps back into the queue. Compare that to the current situation, where the leaver gets punished for a leave and his teammates have to fight 5v4 for at least twenty minutes and lose some LP.

In theory one could protect their duo partner's LP by leaving, but they two accounts are going to get hit with a lot of leave penalties for this even if they alternate leaves. You could also do the same thing ARAM does with re-rolls and penalize everyone that queued with the leaver (i.e. the other person in the duo or the entire team for 5v5). Leaving is therefore still bad for the leaver while being less inconvenient for the rest of their team.

Its a game killer either way

They should be punished for a Queue dodge, not a leave.

You punish the LEAVER and not the rest of the team that showed up on time.

And then people who DC for a second before games get punished.

5 MINUTES. READ.

As if to imply people only DC for 5 minutes or less.

I read this carefully, I witness often people who don't connect until a little before the minion wave comes out on a daily basis.

There you go. It's the first sentence of the thread. I hope you read carefully next time.

That is for the players who didn't DC.

Sending them back to the queue doesn't change anything for the DC/Dodger

Yes,don't punish the other 4 people for no good reason

And don't punish the DC because people want to force in half baked ideas like this.

You first said this idea was abuse-able, because you didn't read the warm-up part. Then you said people who dc for a second would get punished, because you didn't read the 5 minutes part.

Do you understand the game doesn't start until 5 minutes warm-up ends?

Do you understand if people dc for 5 minutes, they deserve a punishment?

Do you understand if they connect within 5 minutes, they don't get punished?

Please read the idea carefully.
