So, serious question, considering that Grag ult, Janna ult, Janna E , Galio Ult, locket, and barrier were all blown to keep Kog alive against Ori Ult, Sej ult, and one empowered basic attack from Cait...

Should that have been enough to kill Kog?

Taliyahc15 votes

Kog then runs down c9 right clicking their entire team to death after they used 2 ults.

As long as your initiation/burst is blown and adc survives, you get run down with no counterplay, they shouldn't have been able to chase after that fight after everything they'd just used.

Kloqdq14 votes

That's a lot of dirty hands in the same pie. ADCs, Supports, Tanks and a lot of the items acting together to be a cluster fuck of just gross shit.

Rebonack is right, what we saw just wouldn't have been enough to kill Kog'maw here. Now proceeding to rundown C9 after all that shit was blown? Yeah, that is probably not good but it's more or less a lot of problems acting up.

Tearin True13 votes

But that's not true. ADC had a bunch of damage thrown his way and his team had to coordinate using everything they had. That wouldnt have worked in solo q. Also it gives players who enjoy "epic" save play style something to do.

Taliyahc33 votes

I'm a support main, trust me I was annoyed last year with assassins.

But after they gave us locket and redemption as well as delaying most of assassin's bursts during the rework, there is now no punishment for positioning.

I've had multiple adcs get caught out but as long as I played janna or something and spammed shield, with either ardent or giving them locket and redemption they could 1v5 the enemy team 9 times out of ten because burst is no longer viable.

Verxint93 votes

Considering the entire talking point everyone says about ADC's is "They have to position carefully and get blown up if they step out too far" it does seem a little ridiculous that if you fail your one attempt to catch them when they're out in front of their team you're not allowed a second chance.

My Waifu Vanilla5 votes

Except he was still positioned well.....He was in range of his entire team. C9 got outdrafted and literally all WE had to do to win the game was sit as 5 people and C9 couldn't do anything. "But he got hit by Sej ult!" It doesn't matter when Janna is literally right next to him and Galio gives Kog like 30% damage reduction.

I didn't know the front line was the correct positioning for an ADC.

The problem isn't whether that should've killed Kog. I agree that that should definitely be enough tools to keep him alive.

The problem is that we've reached a meta where it's more efficient to stack low gameplay defensive tools and keep one carry alive under all circumstances than it is to go on the offensive. It's not very fun for me, as a midlaner, because I cannot kill any backliners right now due to the Lockets, heals, barriers, shields, etc. so I'm relegated to a utility bot role.

Linna Excel23 votes

I think the problem was, all that was blown and C9 realized there was nothing they could do to blow up a now tanky kog.

It shouldn't have been enough to kill kog, but they should have been able to finish him off while he was out of position. I can't stress that enough. He should have died in the follow-up. Instead C9 died in a situation they should have won the teamfight. Don't get me wrong, C9 made a lot of mistakes by not banning galio or kog... or janna since they were on red. However that was just too much protection and shielding dumped onto an out of position ADC that normally needs to position perfectly to win.

That's the issue, teams are able to get a high-damage adc into the frontline and face tank the enemy team while melting them.

The serious question is

Why add so much surviveability so that one class the game is centered around can succeed

It’s much harder to pull off an attack that C9 did (landing three ult) onto one person along with Orianna W and Caits AA (lulu pix) then it is to draft 3 shields

If your defense can negative all damage in coming and you still can do damage, that’s a huge problem

Durzaka4 votes

Thank you.

Everyone acts like this is something insane, but what really happened was that WE used MORE to save Kog maw than the enemy used to kill him.

I mean, look at this situation:

Start

Kog'maw already has a Janna shield on him. That eats all of Sej ult and her Q (because Sej doesnt do that much damage all things considered) Immediately after the Sej ult landed Galio ulted Kog, BOOM now Kog has potentially 30% damage reduction (not bothering to look at the items at this point in the game, but you can assume 25% to be on the low side). So right there the Ori ult is getting dumpstered for damage.

Then IMMEDIATELY after the ori ult, which Kog'maw actually barriered (he got another shield, maybe it was Jannas off cooldown again now that i think about it. In that case, its another stupid mistake from C9 for when they engaged while Kog was already shielded.)

After the ori ult and whatever shield Kog had dropped, Janna ulted, disengaging, and healing Kog'maw, and Locket was activated, giving another massive shield.

Janna got an almost full ult off, which assuming 0 ap (again, too lazy to check the builds outside of censer), that is almost 300 health. and a lvl 11 Kog only has 1237 hp, so thats a MASSIVE heal, which is why it looks crazy that he came out so healthy.

Honestly, NOTHING they do to the current game short of gutting numerous champions would have changed that outcome. WE played a very very very heavy protect the Kog comp, something we have seen for a very long time in competitive play. And they played it will.

Taliyah Rocks47 votes

Perfect initiation by Sej, with great followup from team, everyone throws all their shit. Kog's health fails to drop below 50%.

woot

Durzaka9 votes

If you want to praise the initiation and follow up, why would you ignore the reaction and disengage?

the initiation wasnt perfect, as they engaged on a kog that had a full shield on him already. That right there is like 30% more max hp for Kog before the fight even started.

And after all was said and done, Kogmaw got hit 3 times. Sej ult, ori ult, and one Caitlyn AA. WE disengaged and peeled EVERYTHING else away.

So in fact, the follow up got dumpstered because nothing actually reached Kogmaw.

There was no disengage though

It was just stacking of shields on a carry. It wouldn't be that bad if X team is sacrificing damage to gain that much armor/shielding. However due to the amount of how damage an ADC can do, it makes sense to do this. It's a weird design that riot should never have allowed.

if X team with shield/defense can outdps a team with no shield and more dmg, it's ughhh weird.

Primaquarius35 votes

They did negative damage

Old Man Teeto29 votes

Current issue is that defensive play is more rewarding than aggressive play.

The only "initiation" type abilities/champions were seeing are ones that are great defensively but if used offensively they can run away if they decide the fight might not be in their favor.

True "Hard" initiation needs to be FAR more powerful while these dual-purpose abilities need to be far weaker to make up for their flexible nature.

TLDR: Riot made the most defensive meta to date, Hyper Carries are the best thing to defend, so that's what we have.

Verxint21 votes

The problem is when there's strong hard initiators ADC players cry "ADC in 2k17 lul" instead of learning to position

DuskDaUmbreon17 votes

It's an issue that most of the team blew everything they had to keep him alive, and, since he failed to die, he was able to kill the enemy team?

So...it's an issue that a team is able to successfully peel for their ADC?

Alex h872149 votes

The issue is that Kog can be in the frontline and get hit by everything and the kitchen sink, but because of the strength of support items his squishyness which is an intended weakness for adcs, made up for by positioning well is completely non-existent.

(these support items are also being built by the jungler and sometimes toplaner {tanks, in this case the midlaner as well} item 3190 item 3109 item 3504 ) And thus the game degenerates into putting everything into the adc and hope your adc melts their team before their adc melts yours. Its incredibly boring.

DuskDaUmbreon14 votes

It was more than just the strength of support items. It was that, and multiple ultimates to keep him alive. Janna pressing Q E and R, Galio peeling with E, W, and his ult, Gragas peeling with his cc...

That's not support items at fault. That's something scientifically referred to as a fuckton of peel (specifically the metric fuckton).

Variks the Loyal13 votes

So the idea that ADCs need to position carefully and work to not get caught out is moot, then, since, after they're caught out, allies will just save them every time?

Kog should have been dead as soon as the Shockwave went off.

Skorch17 votes

"Kog should have been dead as soon as the Shockwave went off."

Everyone: Entire teams die so fast. I miss longer teamfights. Riot: Here are several support items and ultimates to make it so that peel and defense are more available so that you dont get blown up in 2 seconds. Everyone: WHY ISNT KOG DYING RITO??

And this is exactly why catering to low elo players always leads to dead ends.

Don't forget nerfing Assassins before they made support items stronger.

The steam life7 votes

The problem is that once that 2 second burst opportunity is over he will then proceed to burst them down with no counterplay. Like yes defensive gameplay and shielding is fair but not when you are using it only to keep the adc alive and when you get caught out like that there should be a price. They expended so much energy keeping log alive that even if it was fair to have that much tankiness they should have lost the team fight based on all their abilities expended

Limrick18 votes

The issue is that defense is just flat-out better than offense. Dash even pointed out that C9 played that entire fight perfectly, but they still weren't even close to killing Mystic. That's the problem, the team that takes the initiative and catches a valuable target should have the advantage. Instead the would-be victim gets made to be 3-4 times tankier by a few button presses that require absolutely no skill to pull off.

I don't see anything wrong?

Chinese team sent kog out as bait with Janna to keep him alive, galio was nearby ready to ulti and grag to disrupt enemy team once they inevitably tried going after kog.

Instead it was C9 goofing of, they weren't ready for the seju ulti to land resulting on ori missing everything besides her R and the Cait only landed a single auto attack before getting barreled away.

Meanwhile kog got janna barrier, heal ultimate and damage reduction.

What hit him? Low AP ori ulti, seju ulti and a single auto from a lategame carry with less than 2 complete items.

Commentary is being silly again, it's ridiculous to actually expect the kog to die under those circumstances, he wasnt caught, he was bait, a bait that C9 fell face fist into the ground for.

ChuShoe7 votes

so what's the counterplay if he's in a not stupid position, not being bait, run away?

Thefrostyviking6 votes

For that match? I´d say C9 should either have tried rotating around and forcing objectives while avoiding a teamfight at all costs.

You see the biggest issue with that match was that C9 had a absolutely wonderfully inept drafting to start with, they handed off galio and janna, two of the biggest powerhouses in the patch worlds are played, and they didn't ban kog who was a clear choice one galio and janna were taken.

Meanwhile they for themselves picked stuff like Cait, shen, seju, lulu and ori.

Cait who does not have any ability to kill tanks at all, and her ability to poke in lane only works on those without sustain or shields.

Shen who exists to reinforce strong carries rather than carry himself-

Lulu was a good choice, except she mainly works with high attackspeed marksmen rather than those that use abilities more than anything like cait and her traps.

Seju was probably not a bad pick, however what is the point of picking a frontline meant to grind enemies down when enemy backline is twice as strong as your own? You´ll end up dying first 10 out of 10 times. Morever she would never get ontop of any carries with Janna there.

Ori is a good pick with Sejuani generally but she could never followup closely enough against a team with both grag and galio, not to mention it's hard to get any good ults of a Seju that can´t get any good dives off.

So what happened there was that C9 drafted like they´d been paid off by the Chinese team, their picks, band and comp was just so incredibly stupid altogether, It was like they wanted to have impossible teamfights.

A case of screwing themselves over with iron poles in drafting.

ChuShoe2 votes

This actually makes a lot more sense when it's broken down like this.

I still think kog should have died, bait or not. Even if it was bait, the amount of cc and damage thrown his way should have gotten him. I agree it wasn't the best engage, but it's still extremely irritating to see him alive after all they threw at him.

Thefrostyviking3 votes

It wasn'y a lot of damage though, only 3 things actually hit him in the end.

Tank seju ulti, low AP ori ulti and a headshot from cait with no items.

With a Janna and Galio sitting ontop it's rather easy to survive those 3 without much effort.

No, I mean literally zero. There was no change in the shield's strength, just the CC.

ArcSage556 votes

There was legitimately no collapse on the kog maw The sej ult landed which did little to no damage and then followed up by the Orianna ult Outside those two ultimates hitting No one on C9 was able to follow up with damage? Why? because of the gigantic peel The main reason why shockwave and glacial prison is strong is because of its lockdown allowing team follow up. The lockdown only hit the kog maw while the the rest of his team was free to do everything they could to save him. Imagine if the prison and shockwave hit the entire team with everyone attacking the carry, kog maw would have died with sheer collapse but everyone else was free to peel. Imagine if kog was isolated away from any of his team mates? Notice the rest of c9 was condensed in the bush by Gragas and Shen being stopped from dashing to kog with Galio and Janna ult. (That is important) No one was anywhere near kog due to Galio ult (plus damage reduction and locket) and Gragas ult zoning them out, then making a wall preventing anyone from getting near while Janna freely monsooned, of course kog maw is gonna Live. The entire comp was centered at protecting the carry, and they did a fantastic job. C9 was chain cc'd so hard that Janna was able to freely do what jannas do while everyone prevented c9 from touching kog. Every possible peel was done with coordination. Don't just focus on the Janna and kogmaw Everyone made sure no one from C9 touched kog maw as soon as the prison hit. This was a matter of team coordination and the coordination WE did to keep the kog maw alive was perfect. Why shouldn't defensive comps be okay? They're just as strong as engage, but execution is key, you can have the best engage and defense comp but it'll be useless when executed badly.

Servant Ruler6 votes

Except youre missing the part where Caitlyn set up a trap that Kig maw got Ori ulted onto and then took a head shoot. I would agree with most of what you said but just from One janna shield and Galio's ult he didnt even drop under Half hp which That is just retarded

ArcSage555 votes

An Ori ult + Sej Ult + a single head shot will be countered by a Janna Shield (200+ absorption since it pre nerf), fully channeled Monsoon that heals 100 hp per second (depending on level), Galio ult damage reduction, Locket and Barrier.

The Burst damage happened, look closely at his health bar, but because there was **no further follow up **from C9 due to the heavy cc they were placed in; the entire team was clumped in the bush with Galio and Gragas preventing any further initiation, Kog ended up healing and absorbed off the damage.

Like I said before, had he been successfully collapsed on, Kog would have been deleted.

Durzaka6 votes

It wasnt just one janna shield.

It was a janna shield, Galio ult (dont fucking unterestimate that, thats almost 30% straight dmg reduction right there), Barrier, AND janna ult (FULL ult, which is 300 healing).

On top of that, Gragas ult + Janna ult kept literally everything off of Kog. So only 3 things even hit him, and he started with a shield, so they right there completed negates one of them.

it was a bad engage by C9. They thought they say a pick and they got baited hard. No one was in a clear position to actually follow up on a caught Kog to kill him.

Martyrofsand6 votes

So sej ults Kog who has a Janna shield. Before any damage comes through Galio ults him giving damage reduction, Grag zones and knocks away everyone but Orianna who is literally the only damage source that connects at all on Kog, mean while Janna knocks away Shen while her ult heals up what damage Kog did take.

I mean do you really have a problem with 3 members of an allied team being able to peel and protect 1 person from literally 1 damage source or do you think Sej+Orianna should do enough to kill a single target through Janna/Galio shields/heals/damage reduction while Grag is zoning everyone else on their team?

KennysDreamGirl5 votes

that actually hilarious

kolpy995 votes

No... This wasn't "broken meta" or any bullshit like that, this was a C9 misplay. That initiation was shit, no one hit him except Ori by the time kog was done being CC'd. And if you think that Ori's ult should mean a kill, then I think you are in no position to analyze what is broken and what isnt.

If you guys want, you can bitch and moan all the live long day making league feel like a chore to play, or you can realize where mistakes were made and actually go back to enjoying the game. Simple, if you don't like the direction the game is going, dont fucking play it.
