Tenacity may soon no longer be important in most games.

Seems like every patch there is more CC that isn't affected by tenacity.

Look at the recent champions: Kalista knock up, gnar knock back, Azir wall/knock back, Braum knock up, and Yas knock up. The next champ is going to have a knock up instead of a stun. Sion is now knock up based instead of stun. Galio's ult is immune to tenacity.

With this many champions having CC that isn't effected by tenacity already in many games it isn't a very cost effective stat.

If this pattern continues of shifting all the hard CC to effects that ignore tenacity the stat will effectively become worthless.

It's not going to be worthless so much as not a necessary buy in every game. You pick up tenacity when you're facing enemies with a lot of stuns/snares/otherwise reduced CC. If enemy team isn't affected by tenacity, you get to pick up different boots.

While I can see how it's frustrating to have less CC reducible, I also appreciate not having to buy Merc Treads every game. I can pick up mobis or tabi or something instead.

If I'm not mistaken, knockups tend to have less duration than other types of hard CC anyway.

but tenacity still reduces the CC that's generally most worth reducing

morg bindings, amumu ults, taric stuns, etc

basically the stuff that totally fucks you if it lands

Galio needed this ult change for a LONG time now. Leave him out of this conversation.

Better (indirectly) nerf Irelia

Meep Man12/10/2014, 8:30:44 PM8 votes

Eh, it is still good against: Ahri Amumu Anivia Annie Ashe Brand Braum Caitlyn DrMundo Elise (wait how long is this list) Fiddlesticks Gnar Hecarim Heimerdinger Irelia Jax Kennen (this is actually getting really long) Leona Lissandra Morgana Nasus Nocturne Poppy Rammus Sejuani Shen Sona (I should have though before I started making this) Swain Syndra Taric Thresh Tryndamere Varus Vayne Veigar Viktor Xerath Zilean

So yeah, it is still pretty useful. A little less than a third of the champion has their main style of gameplay reduced in effectiveness by Tenacity, which is actually turning out to be a pretty cheap stat.

RISE FROM THE GRAVE BOOTS OF SPEED! RISE

Yet, tenacity will still help you against gnar Q slow, azir Q slow, braum Q slow/passive stun etc. And it still helps against blinds, slows, fears, silences, taunts etc. (ok not galios anymore, i see that point, though I cant deny I'm happy about that cuz I main him) What I'm trying to say is that tenacity doesn't seem that worthless considering all the types of CC the enemy team comp will probably have.

They commented on how knockups are visually clearer, but I wonder…might the solution not just be to make other CC more visually striking?

Alternatively, if knock-ups are their new go-to CC, maybe rethinking the "cannot be reduced by tenacity" element would be in order?

It's sort of like the prevalence of True Damage, which messes with Armor/MR calculations. It's very easy to end up overusing what's supposed to be a very rare and special mechanic, because special mechanics sound really cool. (See also: making Champions huge in-game.)

JS, Galio was crap when his ult could be reduced by tenacity.

Colgate Gator12/10/2014, 5:46:26 PM3 votes

Tenacity will never be worthless, but it depends agaisnt what kind of enemies you're fighting agaisnt.
