Suggestion to Buff Sunfire Cloak:

item 3068 was hit pretty hard by being nerfed, but then was made less important to many of the champs that previously built it such as Garen and TahmKench in favor of item 3742 which has comparable stats, but also an undeniably amazing and unique passive that grants mobility.

My proposition would not make it unique among all items, but mainly among non-boot armor items. What if we give item 3068 the passive effect of Furor/Rage? It is a very hard effect to work into AP bruiser's builds such as the deceased Sejuani or the still serviceable TahmKench and Zac without taking item 1320 on boots. I think that giving it this passive will allow it to be the AP champ's mobility armor competitor against the AD champ's item 3742 .

Other champs likely affected by it: Nunu , Blitzcrank It would also make an option for melee AD champs that do not want to build Cleaver.

Admittedly the prime candidates for why this is a bad idea are: Braum , Chogath , DrMundo

But item 3068 needs a looking at to make it compete better in some way, this is just one possibility.

I think it would be an important part of its balance come to think of it that neither [Chainmail] or [Bami's Cinder] provide PhageRage as you try to build the final item unlike [Cleaver] . This is also similar to how [Giant's Belt] does not provide mobility before you make [DMP, aka the Department of Mobile Platemails] as well. Adding this to OP.

To say that the power spike provided by either is not provided at all until the item is complete, like most defense items. Unlike offensive items that do something mid-way like item 3093 or item 3044 itself.

not a bad idea do do something for sunfire cape.

im not sure if thats the change the item needs, but imo dead mans plate is fine overall. it just feels like the alternatives are mostly trash.

thornmail rush has been destroyed and sunfire as a midgame item has been nerfed to shit and is only really useful on champs who need extra waveclear.

I agree with you on Dead Man's. It's not OP to me, but it definitely looks sexier than Sunfire for most of its old wearers. The mean reason I see for this is the invaluable mobility passive.

Edit: I meant to say also that PhageRage is probably not the best for it as you said, but it is what I thought of first when I identified mobility as Deadman's appeal. There are 2 AP items that provide it so far: item 3078 and, technically, item 1310 . There are a ton of AD mobility items such as item 3142 , item 3078 which is ofc shared, item 3172 , item 3071 , item 3044 that makes 2 of the prior items.

I think it would be an important part of its balance come to think of it that neither item 1031 or item 3751 provide PhageRage as you try to build the final item unlike item 3071 . This is also similar to how item 1011 does not provide mobility before you make item 3742 as well. Adding this to OP.

The way I see it,

the damage on Sunfire is negligeable =| the movement speed on item 3742 isn't. I don't know what something else could Sunfire do but it needs to fill a space, which I think it's the AoE damage.

I don't get this, why not leave items do what they do, then there's a true choice. Sunfire could deal increasingly more damage the more damage you took. Good for frontlines who'd soak up and then burn like the sun.

item 3742 is a lot better now as it's good for split-pushing, roaming and chasing.

Sunfire damage is meh. And the stats are worst then Dead Man's

It does make sense to make its damage better especially as it is iconic to the item, but the reason that giving it incremental damage is potentially bad that with all the nerfs to Cinderhulk that would blur the lines more between the two items.

What if we make the "Rage" passive (keeping the unique name to stop stack abuse) doubled while Sunfire's aoe damage is on an enemy? This puts emphasis on the AOE dmg itself.

Or maybe we can make Sunfire's Damage scale with HP?

the problem with sunfire is that it's just... there. It doesn't create any meaningful interaction for buying it, so Riot can't really allow its effects to be noticeable. i still think it should be a toggle at the very least, but if not, there's something else you could do

in my opinion, it should have an active where for X seconds it deals higher damage in its radius. possibly scaling with tank stats so that bruisers are less useful with it. or, it could play out much like Shyvana's W, where you have to keep attacking or it'll go on cooldown. this lets you play around it with slows and such, while letting the sunfire user feel a noticeable damage spike for as long as they keep up their offense and avoid being kited

Why not just have sunfire cloak ignore a % of the enemies MR?

BattleBalladeer1 votes

That would be an interesting thing to test out too, especially since Kayle passive, item 3091 , item 3136 , and item 3020 do affect it already.

But if it did its damage in full, how noticeable would it be?

It definitely looks like another idea with potential.

That wouldn't realy fit the item, and push it closer to item 3742 , not a fan...

I agree that i can use a buff however, but i'd either buff the stats a bit, like atleast 50armor and 500 health, would still be less raw stats than dead man's, or buff the aoe dos, maybe with some health scaleing, or a bit higher per level scaleing, or some ap-scaleing for ap-bruisers, something that makes it's unique feature more powerfull and the actuall reason to pick it up.
