The tank meta. A meta full of tanks but is it healthy to play against? Well let me tell you something.

What is a meta? A "meta" stands for Most. Effective. Tactics. Available. This causes our FOTM to roll out and to see newer champions to roll out before Riot nerfs them for staying on top too long. The TANK META has shown more champions that we never expect to see in s4 or s3 to be big Chogath Sejuani Gragas VolibearUrgot Zac these are just a few champions that truly shine now due to the buffs to tanks, but how does this compare to other meta's? Well the ASSASSIN META allowed people to play champions with high mechanics but gave the enemies less time to react and would die to the burst of Akali Fizz Zed Elise Katarina. Last of all the MARKSMEN META consisting of anyone who could attack fast and crit to mow down the other team or the towers.Tristana Lucian Yasuo Caitlyn Jinx (yasuo cuz the IE buff really spiked his win rate along with the marksmen).

Now back to the TANK META. The new tank meta now makes people play tanks in EVERYROLE. This is a reason it might be the most unhealthy meta because other metas only affected maybe 2 lanes. You now see Nautilus support, Kennen Support, Gragas jungle, Chogath mid, and top laners going summoner 11 summoner 12 to get the item 3717. This allows many tanks to be incredibly tanky while doing burst dmg of any other carry, and that brings me to my next point! People get frustrated and will rage because not being able to damage anyone on the enemy team while seeing a tank building no dmg (except maybe 1 item) and out do him/her. This causes the brain to feel a lack of accomplishment and to start giving up or just quitting the game all together. I have seen more rage quits in the TANK META more than the assassin meta(that is actually a accomplishment to the tanks. Gj tanks). This also makes certain roles worthless.

**The assassins can no longer do their jobs **with the amount of raw cc and burst of a tank, nerfs to the assassins (R.I.P Assassins), and if they do their job of killing the marksmen then whats the point when the tanks do more dmg then the adc in the first place? Now the assassin wasted everything to kill the squishy and will now have to face 4 bursty tanks.

Marksmen feel unloved when tanks can do their job of killing a enemy and yet take no dmg. While a adc can die in 2 to 3 shots, it makes them feel useless and mostly causing to give up. The good thing is a marksmen can never be replaced in getting towers! Woohoo! Hail the king!summoner 30

In the end the CONS of the TANK META is making people who are not tanks feel unaccomplished and will most likely give up or afk. Now there is so PROS to the TANK META.

The PROS to the TANK META is that it has opened up many new champions to the scene! Hello Urgot we thought we lost you a long time ago. And I can quite say that I enjoy the new champions rolling out and sometimes even playing as the tanks like Chogath Volibear and biting peoples faces off >:D

All I got to say is that I am proud of the TANK META being back, but there needs to be better choices than tanks in every role. Maybe Riot should nerf some of the bursty tanks dmg (ONLY BY A LITTLE) because of the new cinderhulk but leave their tankiness there. This will give pure tanks time to shine with their bursty tank brothersZac Nautilus Malphite Amumu Alistar DrMundo. Or even buff the non-tanks to help them stand with the current tanks and make more champions viable to the game. (Galio Elise Aatrox COUGH COUGH) Thats right! Give me % health dmg on Aatrox!

Anyway, what do you think of the tank meta? Love it? Hate it? leave a comment and vote on the poll!

Every meta is the marksman meta. They're the only role that has been consistently required since s2.

to a extent. A marksmen meta is more of protect the carry. Other metas revolve around Assassin if its a assassin meta and tank meta is its a tank meta. I do agree that a marksmen will change/adapt giving the situation of what meta it is.

If an Assassin can "do their job" on every member of the enemy team that's already a pretty unhealthy gamestate. Giving people more ways to deal with tanks is just going to make tanks useless in the long run, if the meta must be changed it should be with nerfs to tank damage. Tank tankiness is in a really ideal spot.

What Im trying to say is that a Tank shouldnt do burst damage. only mediocre damage. The tanks shouldnt be killed by assassins but if a assassin were to take out the adc or mage (but now most mages are mid lane tanks) then the enemies main damage should be gone. Also the changes to help people with tanks is IF riot decides not to nerf the bursty tank champions. Like I said its mostly the tanks damage. Not their tankiness, leave that untouched.

I would actually argue that Yasuo is better in the tank meta than he was back in the burst meta, and his steadily increasing win rate over the last several patches supports this. Back during the "OMG Yasuo so OP Permaban his Ass!" days, he was played mostly as a quasi-assassin, paired with knockup champs to burst enemy squishies with mighty wombos. This strategy has one major flaw; it requires a very substantial amount of follow up burst as well as squishy targets, and the burst meta supplied us with plenty of both. These days, however, simply ulting in is more likely than not to get you killed faster than a Yi that didn't quite get that reset.

However, I still believe that Yasuo is better in the tank meta in which we now find ourselves. The first thing to understand is that Yasuo is a melee carry first and an assassin second; he does an enormous amount of damage to enemy tanks, especially once he's ulted, and he has his windwall to block out assistance that enemy ranged champs would want to provide to their front line. Once the enemy front line has been worn down a bit or even killed, you can look for opportunities to jump on enemy squishes and kill them as well, if they were to become vulnerable. With that in mind, I find Yasuos best place in a teamfight is behind his frontline but slightly ahead of his backline, helping his adc shred enemy tanks while using his windwall to prevent ranged follow-up from the enemy team. I find this to be a much safer, more consistent, and overall better way to play Yasuo, as opposed to the dive the enemy carries playstyle that he's mostly known for.

You might just be right. A friend of mine Solo Jedi is a Yasuo only in diamond. He mostly agrees with what your saying and as well as him saying more tank= more cc or knock ups. still his win rate was a lot higher when the adc meta came up due to wind wall and the fact he wasn't nerfed to the ground. If we were to put his current live value I think he would be better in the tank meta because of the tanks that can help him ult.

He also says that now that he thinks of it that its even more high risk high reward due to the enemy tanks can also cc you as well and yasuo is countered hard by CC. It basicly depends who has more cc and who engages first, but still better in this meta if played right.

At the very least, it's better than the unavoidable AOE magic damage hard engage meta we were in a couple months ago. You wanna know what Yasuo can do against a Kennen that ults into a teamfight at 100 miles an hour? Not a damn thing.

At least its usually support Kennen so I don't get 100-0ed.

In terms of champions, we only see two roles that really define the "tank meta": the top lane and the jungle. The other lanes don't define it as much because they either don't see as wide a variety of tanks or don't see tanks that can run Cinderhulk.

The tank meta can literally be described as:

The tanks that can tank the damage The tank busters that can bust the tanks and the squishies that can kill the tank busters

This is a lot different than other metas, where the viable champions were much more limited because of one or two champions.

This variety has been seen a lot in competitive play as well, as we are seeing a large number of different champions being picked even though there's still a tank meta, and players are still experimenting to see what works and doesn't with the new Cinderhulk enchantment.

I'd say that this is the healthiest meta that we have had in a while just due to the sheer diversity in champion picks, but I feel that as we learn more on how to use Cinderhulk and these tanks that use it (both top and jungle) and we might end up seeing a lot less diversity as the time goes on.

Also, how in the world does a tank have burst?
