"I don't care, it's just a video game." Best Excuse to use when you are terrible.

It seems so common now that if you ask a simple question like "Hey Pantheon, why did you leave the turret when I pinged you to stay and allow a Ziggs to push a turret 90%-0% freely?" "Lol u mad? I don't care, it's just a video game." I mean I get that this generation coming up is nothing but a bunch of brats who think they are entitled to everything for free, but do people really do any competition whether it be soccer, football, call of duty, or league of legends with the intent that they would really like to lose? I feel like if kids would just put their internet-ego aside for two seconds, say "My bad, I messed up-- i'll do better." then so many problems would be solved. That would end the bickering right there about what just went down instead of it sitting on the person's mind the whole game. However kids respond with "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH" "LOL U MAD BROSEF BROMISTA!" "LOLOLOL TIS A GAME BRUH" "HAHAHAHA". It is astonishing today how many kids need a really good asskicking.

I mean, at the end of the day, it is just a video game. There's a million others out there you can play if they ban you.

IcyPepper11 votes

No, "it's a videogame" is an excuse to have fun and not be a tryhard in normal games. In ranked, where it's competitive, that's a different story. But you should not be upset over it.

I feel like if kids would just put their internet-ego aside for two seconds, say "My bad, I messed up-- i'll do better." then so many problems would be solved.

Just letting it go and moving on would solve one of your problems, man. The title of this thread and the fact you posted it shows you might be holding onto a little resentment.

Just be like Elsa and let it go.

you. A person that is getting genuinely upset over a video game and berating other people for having fun.

Yea you should get off the computer and do some breathing exercises.

Asking a person why they intentionally gave a free turret to Ziggs on the other team so they could farm eagles is me berating someone and getting upset? It's a logical question that should either trigger a response in his brain like "Hey I should think twice about doing that again, he's right." or bring it to his attention at least. The difference is that kids like you mess up, and instead of saying "My bad" you try to shrug off your embarrassment by screaming random phrases such as "LOLOLOL HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" "LOL U MAD BRUH?" instead of dealing with it like a REAL man does-- by taking responsibility for your actions. Kids like the latter aren't going to get very far in life.

a REAL man

You're getting mad over a video game. You have no idea what being a "real man" is.

Seriously, try some breathing exercises to calm down. Here's a video you can follow:

You are exactly just like the other kids who can't comprehend what it means to take any responsibility. You sit there mouthing off the same phrases "LOL U MAD" "HAHAHAHAHA" and, in your case, "try some breathing exercises." I can't and won't explain this any further to a child who is deliberately trying to not understand. I wish they would do the maturity check they do on Cheez-Its on kids like you before they're allowed to play any online game, lol.

OhOkYea3 votes

Did you at least try the breathing exercises? It's scientifically proven to help manage stress and anxiety.

If you want I can teach you over skype. I've never done it before because I don't have anger issues but it seems pretty easy.

"responsibility for your actions"

This isn't a job, a car crash, or even a verbal assault. This is a video game, people play video games on their free time to have fun. There is no prerequisite to try hard to win.

I think that this is because there is a sort of divide in the video game community at large. There are the casual players like myself who just play games to have a good time and enjoy a chance to p0wn other players every now and then, and then their are the "gamers" who basically live for video games, make their livelyhoods from video games, and take the whole situation much more seriously (Just to clarify, I don't mean either casual or the word "gamer" in any negative sense).

The casual gamer has just as much a right to play and enjoy this game as anyone else, and the serious gamer has just as much right to be as thyroid as they want and to be the best they can be. That is why they have a normal queue and a ranked queue. Normals are for casual gamers, and ranked is for if you want to compare yourself with other serious players. That is why I personally don't play ranked, because aside from not having the time to get on very frequently I just don't care if I rank higher than someone if I am able to play, have fun, and win roughly as often as everyone else I play against without having to attach myself to a label that rates my skill.

If at some point I got serious about this game and thought of pursuing it more seriously, I'd try ranked, but until then that is where the climbers and hardcore players belong, and I belong in my normal matches.

It's not a logical question, it's a question that does not need to be asked. It doesn't really matter why it happened, it happened and you now have to deal with the consequences of it.

However anyone who gets upset over a question like that was either asked said question in a toxic manner, which you would clearly deny on your thread, or is someone you don't want to be talking to in the first place.

As you said people need to take responsibility for their actions, however they do not need to be reminded of their actions and the resulting consequences, regardless of the situation.

I find it odd that you think the OP's getting genuinely upset over the game. What in the post gave you that impression? I think the OP's getting more upset by people who don't want to talk out their reasoning.

If my mid tower fell to a Ziggs and someone asked me about it, I'd tell them my thoughts. "I thought I could get more pressure bot lane. Sorry I lost tower". A statement like that is more than what the OP's hoping for.

It's the same logic when I ask someone about their build. I'm not mad about it, or even thinking that they need to do it a different way, I just want to understand what their goal is.

For some reason I don't comprehend, there are some people that think that looking for understanding is getting mad. It happened in this post with you, and it happens in game with the people who rush to the "It's just a game" line. I know it's just a game, what I don't know is why you did what you did. Is it some super cool strategy or are you just trying to figure something out for the first time? Let me know so I can help either way.

The way he structured his message grammatically shows signs of extreme stress and anxiety. You can tell a lot about a person just by the way they form sentences and paragraphs.

OP is assuming everyone that makes a poor play and doesn't answer him is a child that exists to make him upset.

I personally rarely apologize or explain my misplays. The fact that someone is inquiring to why I did something tells me they thought I shouldn't have done that, it's already a pointless conversation.

I've seen more people standing still dying trying to type or miss a fight because they are now thinking about a teammates comment instead of playing.

I generally play responsibly, but I frequently drink while playing and do stupid risky plays and pay for them. I'd rather just remain silent or say something funny about what happened rather than start justifying why my actions were supposed to be better than the "correct course of actions."

Video games aren't serious to most adults. Maybe you should do a self-check on who the immature one is.

I asked a question. One thing I am, always have been, and always will be is competitive. I had an idea of it but wasn't very sure that children these days are raised to be losers, pardon the pun. Thanks for opening my eyes with all your comments explicitly defending these actions as I have become more enlightened that you are one of the "it's just a game" people.

P.S. You might want to see when that AA meeting is brother, alcohol ruins lives.

Why do you even assume you are playing with "children," are you 50? Many players including myself are in their late 20s or early 30s.

I enjoy winning like anyone else, I just don't criticize my teammates when they are being silly. Your competitive attitude belongs in ranked games at higher ELOs where people legitimately believe they can be in the challenger tier. I generally assume people rage post about normals unless they specify ranked.

P.S. If you want to take jabs at people for drinking, I'm sure there is a MADD forum on the internet.

On the one hand, it is just a video game. Unless you're playing in the competitive scene, there's really no reason to get too worked up about it.

On the other, fuck those people. It's a competitive video game, and those jackasses are not trying, then pretending it's wrong to be upset that your teammates were a flaming bag of dog shit. If it was any rational FPS server, they'd get booted for fucking around, but they can get away with it in League because the setup is radically different.

The best response is to calmly question their mistakes (like your example), and if they respond with the typical "umadbro?" shit talk, just play like nothing's wrong, then block them after the game ends. Report them too, if that makes you feel better, but blocking them means you don't see them again.

redniwediS2 votes

"It's just a game" is not an excuse to not try, it's a thought process that lets certain people get over a bad match. A distinction has to be made here. It's perfectly fine to not try your absolute possible best, because otherwise you would never get to practice roles you're unskilled at, or try new champions.

However on the topic of people who do not try at all, or people who practice and try new things in ranked, I completely agree.

JustMyBassCannon1 votes

Yeah, sure, I don't mind mistakes. It is literally impossible to learn if you don't make any mistakes. But there's missing a pass and letting someone steal the ball, and then there's getting the ball, standing still, letting someone on the other team take it, and then telling your team, "Chill, it's just a game."

One is an honest mistake, and the other is a dick move.

FearEngineer1 votes

This is literally the thing we all know we should do, it just feels like letting people get away with ruining your experience.

Bleh.

bad manner kid4 votes

This game is as serious as mario kart. Sometimes you get hit by a red shell and lose, sometimes you cross the finish line as first place.

If they removed KDA and match history records people probably wouldn't be so upset. The problem is the obsession with statistics and blaming poor performance instead of just playing.

Izbiz2 votes

@OP, it's because you've asked a loaded question - one that has an obvious answer. He likely knows he screwed up. Having some random person ask a very passive aggressive question when they already know better is like kicking someone when they're down.

And if they don't know they screwed up, then asking that question won't help either. It just comes off as I-know-better-than-you-so-stfu-and-listen. It would have been much more effective to say "I don't think we would have lost that tower if you stuck around. Oh well."

TLDR: don't ask a passive aggressive question.

Boswick2 votes

I bet you're one of those people that completely flip their shit and rage out over ever little mistake in normal games.

FearEngineer2 votes

"It's just a game..."

  • that the other players on your team have committed a significant chunk of time to play

  • that requires teamwork and is significantly more difficult with a rogue teammate

  • that does requires effort and skill to win in competitive matches

  • that many people immerse themselves in fully when playing

  • that isn't very fun when one person ruins it for everyone else

Players can and should be encouraged to be invested in the game- it is a lot more fun when everyone is into it. I'm tired of hearing some bullshit rhetoric about how caring about a game makes you some kind of freak.

Personally, I think that the type of player you described is more of a toxic influence than anything else, and is the source of most of the arguing in chat...

But the report system in place serves only to "protect" people who don't care about the game, who think it is more fun to troll and instigate than to play to win. Because those aren't the players who get mad... only the players who care get upset... so reporting just ends up punishing people who love the game the most.

Snarflaz1 votes

I feel the same and i have saw people say this. Saying "It's Just a game" is ruining others fun. Let's be real here you play league and want to win or at least have fun. People saying "IDC bruh it's a fking game" ruins peoples fun and there chance to have a good feeling while they play. I feel like people who say "It's Just a game" don't care what there doing and don't give sympathy toward there teammates.

People who abuse there teammates are just as bad. Saying you belong in bronze 5 and go back to bots. Everyone has been here where they were abused by another person on the team. It makes your teammate tense and like what the "Did you know" thing in the load screen says your more likely to lose if you abuse your own team. Encourage them to try better, give them a few kills and they will be back on track.

Thats all i got to say. Some of this may be off topic. Sorry :D

junglerboy161 votes

It's a better excuse than saying "I don't care, it's just normals." or "I don't care, it's just ARAM." because it at least shows that they treat the whole thing as a meaningless time sink rather than thinking that they have the right to waste my time spent in a normal match but I ought to fully respect their time in ranked as if they are paying by the minute for the experience. You can't expect me to respect your time if you don't respect mine. I don't play ranked for the reason that I prefer a more casual experience, and if someone is being a goofball in a normal, deal with it, you can only actually complain if you are in a ranked game and they treat it with no respect.

When somebody says "It's just a game" in ranked then I have a problem. In normals, sure, it doesn't matter if you win as long as you aren't trolling. But in ranked you should absolutely be playing to win 100% of the time. In ranked it's not just a game.

Spacesuit Spiff1 votes

Really, kids who are spouting rhetoric like that might as well be vomiting all over their keyboards for all the meaning it has. What you take from it is that they aren't playing seriously and care more about feeling good about themselves than winning.

You can feel good about yourself AND win. When someone points out a mistake I made, I'll make note and think "alright one step closer to diamond". Then when pointing out a mistake continues into 20 minutes of childish whining about it (because soloq sigh) they get muted.

The Whamboozler1 votes

"lol, u mad?" The mindlessly regurgitated motto of kids who want you to think the stupid things they're doing were INTENTIONAL.

I do not play ranked, as I do not like all the tryhards. Whenever I come across one in a normal game, pissing their pants because someone is having an off game (whether it is a teammate or myself), that is when I say "Chill. It's just a game." Why do I say that? Because it is the truth. Games are meant to be fun, and if someone takes it too seriously it loses all the enjoyment.
