Thoughts on Yorick?
Perfectly balanced, sleeper op? weak?
I'm having such a hard time evaluating the state of Yorick right now. Is he only viable because people still don't understand how to play against him? So in other words, is he a cheese pick?

Oppressive as fuck in lane early game, useless outside of it.
He's pretty much exactly what people said about Old Yorick, except now it's actually true.

I would say so, he has no lategame.
Strong in low elo. Outside of that IDK. I usually go: 
Full tank or 
into full tank and he does some surprising damage. Grasp of the Undying was probably named after him and it works so well lol. He's got strong sustain between that and his Q. His big downside is mobility. You have to really know where your opposite is going for your W/E but you can also use those in a way that forces the enemy to take one or the other. Late game you can either play a great split pusher or a decent tank that waits for the enemy to engage so you can then land your W/E easier and punish them for it.
Your playing him wrong, if you think he has no lategame, just go black cleaver into gauntlet, into more tanky stats, and generally build him like a juggernaut with steraks and so on, his role in teamfight is not diving but peeling with his w and also his damage is insane when he has his ghouls up, so its pretty important to set them up before the teamfight.
He's fine. If they buff him, he'll end up like kassadin, too strong and annoying.
He needs better ghoul summoning because he lacks that even he leaves his lane.
He would be a good splitpusher if turret didnt fucking focus his minions down first and if maiden didnt die from 4 tower shots. Right now he can only hope that he wins lane and snowballs, which he does well, otherwise he is trash.
