Is being a try-hard a bad thing Nowadays?

Long stories aside, i am a try-hard. I play to win, plain and simple.

I will try to exploit every chance i can to win a game. You see that 0/8/2 enemy Ahri chilling in mid, cause i sure do. enemy team flaming each other, might as well add some fuel to the fire.

In normal's, I don't get mad at people if there doing bad. I understand that people might be learning a new role/champ. maybe just having a bad game, whatever. Maybe i'm playing with a random group of 2 or 3 who want to try something. That's cool, as long as your not just trolling around, i'm fine with that.

Different story in ranked though. I don't understand why people go into a place where some people are actually trying to do good. Waste, at least, 20 minutes of everyone's time, because they think it's funny to watch people get pissed. If you're playing a champ, the last thing i want to here when we load in is, "this is my first Vayne game."** WHY DID YOU PICK HER THEN!!!** Why would you pick some you have literally zero experience with.

In normal's, I play to win while trying to have fun. Maybe try a different build path, maybe try a fancy flash play or two here and there. Have fun but try to win. But in ranked, I play to win. If that means fun has to be thrown out the window, so be it.

If anyone has any counter points to this, i would love to her them. Any discussion is a good discussion.

Well I always used to try hard in ranked. Then Riot OCE (slack bastards) made it the only mode available on our server when they disabled draft normals (yeah, there's blind pick and team builder, but those both suck, the only way you can try hard is with draft mode) and I was forced to stop tryharding 100% every game, because I was frankly sick of having to play my "main" 2-3 champions over and over again in every single game. I still can't play free rotation champs at all unless I want to take them into co-op vs AI to practice with them, but at least I've loosened up enough to play whatever I damn well feel like when I feel like it now.

The realisation that my performance really made very little different to my rank and that no matter how hard I try I'm still gonna lose the games that can't be won so I might as well stop giving a fuck helped as well.

But I got a problem with one thing you said: so if someone on the enemy team is having a really shit game and their entire team is telling them to kill themselves, you'll lay into them as well to try and make them feel even fucking worse about themselves in the hope that it'll slightly improve your chances of winning? That's not trying to win. That's being a douchebag. Don't call it "psychological warfare", it's being an asshole and there's no excusing it. When you say you'll "do anything to win" would that include drophacking your opponent if you knew you could get away with it? Swatting your opponent so their game gets interrupted by a squad of armed police busting down their door? Where do you draw the line? This is just a fucking game. If you feel you have to be a complete douchebag in order to win, then you shouldn't be allowed to play.

^^^ This guy knows what's up. Taking advantage of players on tilt is one thing. BMing is another thing entirely.

No, I will never personally attack someone. I will try to defend someone, enemy or on my team, if someone attacks a personal part of there life. When i say add fuel to the fire, i mean if there flaming each other if the mid didn't roam or jungler didn't gank bot lane. And i'll do anything to win, inside the game. I have a strong competitive spirit, and I do believe cheating to win belongs in no competitive sport or game.

Maybe i should have elaborated a bit more. I draw the line about anything outside the game. Life, personal situations, family is completely off limits Anyone willing to take it that far should probably rethink somethings. if it's something to do within the game, then i consider it okay.

Calling someone a try-hard has always been a thing, but in ranked, trying hard is the whole point, so it's never a bad thing. I agree with the person below me though: don't always try to add to the problem on the other team. Online harassment is extremely annoying to deal with, and if someone on the enemy team is tilting, don't go overboard with negative comments.

You're 20% more likely to get those "first time whatever" people on the enemy team, when I get them on my team I see it as a challenge, this is what you need to be able to carry, had a game the other day where our ADC never connected, also I picked Ahri into Leblanc, so I counter picked myself. At 9 minutes the allied Sejuani failed a gank mid and gave the enemy Leblanc blue buff. The other team was ahead by 3852 at 12 minutes, by the time we took their nexus we were ahead by 4979. 4v5, counter picked, feeding team mates, none of that matters any more than you let it.
