Pretty sure her strength is range and seige, and her weakness is getting jumped on and deleted.

In an ideal world, Caitlyn should be extremely slow when setting herself up, should have really spaced-out autoattacks, and should be vulnerable when approached at close ranges. In practice, though, Caitlyn has a pretty good escape tool that can also provide a large chunk of burst, builds for attack speed and gets consistent DPS, despite her lessened scaling, and doesn't really need any prep time to kill her targets. She's a champion with a lot of base strength whose abilities simply build upon it even further, instead of giving her the high uptimes and downtimes that would be more fitting of a sniper. For example, her situational Headshot proc gives her the biggest autoattack range out of any champion for one attack, but she already has the highest base range in the game.

Right now, I think one issue with Caitlyn is that she's too strong, but another is that she has a ton of power that she doesn't really have to make full use of to excel at. She gains double Headshot stack generation from brush, for example, yet that almost never factors in during most games. Her traps grant true sight for 9 seconds, which is absurdly long, but she isn't really counted as an anti-stealth champion because she has so many other strengths. She definitely has a clear strength as a long-ranged marksman, but she needs to be a lot slower, and I think chipping away at her passive could work towards that: if Cait lost the Headshot stacks on autoattacks (which really contradicts her "one shot, one kill" attitude as well), she'd lose a ton of DPS, and could instead have more power placed on her range and sniping. I also think her traps should be destructible, which would prevent her from walling in opponents in lane.

  • Bad midgame: needs plenty of attack speed and crit (about 60%) to become powerful again after lane phase
  • Vulnerable at close range: if you dodge her E, she's too slow to escape anybody
  • Situational damage for a hypercarry: Caitlyn's overall DPS relies on stacking headshots with Runaan's, which only works consistently if opponents stay clumped. Her single target damage is terrible for an ADC
  • Vulnerable without traps: if Caitlyn's zoning you in lane, push/pull the wave away from her traps and either safely trigger them or ignore them. If she covers your tower with traps, she has none to protect herself in teamfights; engage on her. If an objective is coming up, get there first so Caitlyn can't set up. The traps really aren't an issue if you plan farther ahead than she does.

Caitlyn Wanted to defend this tower? Try it and eat a 800 damage basic attack from the fog of war.

I love when people try to bring up her mid game as a weakness.

The thing is, ever since Runaan's was core on Caitlyn, so ever since the marksman update, her mid game has been significantly better than before to the point where it's no longer a weakness since she she can constantly proc headshots. Not to leave out her ridiculous traps and net, being able to have 5 makes sieging a breeze.

The idea is that if she has walled an opponent in lane, she has no W to defend herself, hence flanks are common. Her E is a very small dash compared to most other dashes, and only serves to mitigate Frontal attacks. It also takes her far longer to reach a normal attacks speed than most other carries. Jinx, for instance, does more damage at a higher range by the time Cait's attack speed reaches hers. Not to mention it's splash and multi-target, adn the splash and crit and overlap as well. If her traps were destructible, then it would lose the point of putting it down. Heimer turrets are destructible because they can at least damage you before the are destroyed. You have to step on Cait traps to have them do anything.

Ok... As a Caitlyn main, here are her strengths and weaknesses:

Strengths: 650 aa range good damage levels all game mad kites scales well with life steal cause of passive

Weaknesses: squishy(duh) q is slow can't burst as hard as other AD carries(looking at you ({champion:29}}VayneLucian) satisfactory ult

KuroCaliber12/13/2016, 7:21:03 AM2 votes

She's incredibly vulnerable to flank + she has no attack speed early, unlike many other carries. Her only steroid is trap/net/headshot. 1 every 7 shots. Caitlyn typically drop alll their traps during seige, so it's easy to get around her

Caitlyn's are SO annoying to get to. They are not as easy to jump on as most people seem to believe(unless you have really good mobility), and I've played Katarina trying to Q>E>W on top of her. It's not very effective trying to kill a Caitlyn 1v1 as Katarina...in fact it downright hurts. I don't think she's overpowered but she's definitely not an easy champion to just dive on top of like people are saying, and she's the most frustrating ADC I've ever experienced trying to kill as an assassin. At least as these assassins that they made have "windows of power".

That headshot feels like it has 20000 fucking range

AirKingNeo12/14/2016, 12:16:25 AM1 votes

Caitlyn is weak to burst and has high cooldowns on her abilities. Caitlyn is also weak to people with gap closers since her escape is a skillshot and can be missed. She suffers midgame but excels in zoning. Due to her midgame nature, games with Caitlyn usual end at 20-30 minutes with Cait losing or 30-40+ with Cait winning.

Please understand the game before you complain.

I mean... she has some of the worst stats out of most of the ADCs (other than range) at early levels. The only stat she has higher than other ADCs (other than range) is her attack speed per level stat, which helps pad her terrible starting attack speed.

Just some food for thought, as I don't have much of an opinion on this and have only been annoyed by very good Caitlyns. Though her traps are indeed annoying. Too many of them allowed to be down at once, imo.

I mean..... She isn't that mobile......Yeah I got nothing. [zombie-brand-clap]
