I feel like ranked in lower elo is pure luck at this point

Right now I'm in silver, I was in gold last season, and some of the games I have played are fucking ridiculous. With such long death timers, if you get 1 shitty teammate its almost impossible to win the game, because its a 4v5. I was 13-2 on ahri, I still lost the game because 1 certain adc decided it would be good to walk into malz and ignore danger and mia pings. I know that ranked is a team game, but you shouldn't have to rely SOLELY on getting a non garbage team to win the game. I feel as if its a gamble, and im losing. Despite having a positive KDA in ranked and a 48% KILL CONTRIBUTION. I only have a 29% WIN LOSS RATIO. (of course kills aren't everything but still the fact that I am losing so many games with a 2 kd is ridiculous) Obviously you still have games where botlane feeds 5 kills by 15 minutes, (my last game) and you lose, but if you have 1 teammate that doesn't understand positioning, its almost impossible to win the game. Right now in league, you are wayyy too reliant on 1 person not being absolutely ass on the game to win. Maybe everybody is experiencing this to a lesser degree, or maybe Im incredibly unlucky. But so far this has been the worst season for me with dynamic queue, death timers, retardedly broken 100% pick/ban champs, and good players having to rely solely on teammates to win their games, because you can't win a 4v5.

EDIT: Figured I would point this out, I am climbing, just extremely slowly, just for the people who think this is another "these noob teams is holding me back, i deserve challenjour, gg" no, i deserve low gold, thats around where I was last season and Its just taking a retardedly long time getting back. especially for someone with kd of 2, not saying kd is everything, but I should at least have a winrate of 40% with that kind of kda, that means Im pulling double my weight.

You're 10W-26L

That's a pretty small sample size to work off of. Luck just goes that way sometimes. I had a similar start to this season (2-8 continued to like 9-16?) but I'm now 22-22. Luck changes as the sample grows.

On to your gameplay: I don't want to get in to KDAs. Because I know the feeling from my early games this season. It's nearly impossible to have a good KDA when your teammates suck. People will tell you 8/7/3 is a bad score (because it typically is), but when the total score is 12-40 it's pretty darned good. You're going to die when the enemy is that fed if you're legit still trying to win.

What I will comment though, is on a few things you can control:

Your CS is horrid. You average around 100 on some champions mid lane and peak at 170. 150-170 is okay in 20min stomps, but 100 is too low even for that (the only champion I'm that low on is Ahri where the enemy team opened mid after about 8minutes in the only game I played on her).

Your warding is among the worst in the game: http://wardscore.loltools.net/?name=killarviper&region=na

48% kill contribution isn't really that great to be honest. I'm over 50% and that's as an ADC/Top main. That means I'm in the two positions that like to stay in their lanes the longest and farm up for late game.

Meanwhile, you main Jungle/Mid. You should be getting like 55-60% kill contribution minimum. You're supposed to be the one with map presence, enabling the side lanes to get leads (or taking the leads yourself with the kills on the side lanes). Not to mention if your teams are really sucking, how are they getting so many kills without your help?

A lot of this game is team play. I entirely understand that it's possible it's just by chance you've had bad teams for the start of your season and you actually should be around 50%. It's a lot more likely that you're having a combination of bad luck and are making a good number of mistakes on top of that. You need to help your team. Getting ahead yourself isn't good enough. You need to get your teammates ahead, help them catch up, help them win. There's nothing worse than that one guy on your team who's doing well and complaining in chat all game that his team sucks, when he's done nothing to help anyone else catch up and get in a position to help him carry. When his lane opponent who knows they can't stand in lane with him starts roaming and getting further kills on the other lanes while he just free-farms.

on the kill contribution thing:

i play teemo mostly and have 50% kill contribution. i'm split pushing half the game because i can and i still have 50% (admittedly this is total kill contribution and it's skewed by my non-teemo games)

I think if you are playing the game decently you should have 60-70% kill contribution as a mid/jg, especially if you complain about teams being a crapshoot half the time and feel like you are the only competent one

and 2 KDA means you could have gone 12/12/12 or something. you still died 12 times, which is way too many times. I can understand a high kill game but then you probably had sub 50% kill participation too.

no, i have a 2 KD, which means I get 2 kills for everytime I die, can you learn to read please.

considering no one in this games used kill/death ratio because assists are such an important thing (hence KDA) i just thought it was supposed to be kda.

no need to be a dick about it though.

My season 6 ranked story is as follows:

I placed in bronze 3... OK thats fine, Il climb to silver like I did last season.

Got to placements for silver 5, won one of those, went on a losing streak back down to bronze 2, climbed to silver 5 placements...

Then, I got demoted back to bronze 2 again, climbed up to silver 5 placements...

Then, I got demoted to bronze 2 again... climbed to bronze 1 with 98 LP, now Iv been demoted back to bronze 3...

Trying to work my way back up to bronze 2 again at this point...

Every time I get close I get these team mates that just dont care. Like the number of times Iv seen "first time x" in ranked is just bullshit. I get ADCs that go 1/11/3 and 5 of those were inside of the first 9 minutes and its all my fault for... IDK, when Im not support and I go top, our support is feeding their ass off.

Sometimes I say to hell with supporting and just start taking the kills cause my team cant secure them, I try, but get tired of letting victory slip away and must move to a carry mentality some games. It doesnt always help, I have to stop warding objectives. When I play top I play tank and in bronze people wont follow a tank to initiate no matter how fed they are, they always have their own dumb plan. A Sion ult isnt an opportunity, its "oh he ulted... thats nice" level of game play I deal with.

I have no idea how dynamic que match making is balanced, but I know when I was duo queueing with a friend once when they had some interest in LoL, the matches it put me in brought me down closer to his MMR than him up to mine. I was playing against people without Keystones, had little clue what they were doing, and was a 500 pound gorilla in those matches. I can only assume that is some of the bullshit going on in ranked. There is no way to balance the match making of premades with discrepant MMRs. Almost certainly it drags better players down, and then they stomp their lane opponet and snowball the match hard.

Its all about who has the better premade, and luck. You doing well in dynamic isnt that big of a deal.

Apocyliptic7 votes

Dynamic Que has little to know effect on such low elo Players. Unless you are diamond 3 or above, in reality, your just looking for new excuses as to why you can't climb. Though you are right, in a way, if you belong in your elo, your games WILL be based upon luck, which is exactly why you reach a 50% winrate. If you don't belong In your elo, then you can carry virtually every game, if you belong there, you can carry a few, and you will also feed in a few.

Welcome to how competitive sports work.

Out of all my ranked games played this season, which is probably around 200, I've only duoed with my plat 5-4 friend 10 times, and dicked around with friends in a 4 man premade twice. Last season I was Gold 5, this season I have improved, and now I'm Gold 1-2. I'm climbing, while largely only playing solo, and have not noticed anything new with Dynamic Que, mainly because I'm not looking for a self fulfilling prophecy to explain to me why I'm not ranked higher.

I'm in silver 4. :/ In all my games I've played there was only one premade on each team that I was aware of. If I remember correctly, we kicked their ass pretty hard.

Competitive sports... ok.

A baseball player can be an amazing hitter, and great at stealing bases. With a shitty team that cant hit the ball or catch them in the outfield HE never wins a game. A scout can recognize his individual talent and he could go to the major leagues.

A quarterback can be able to throw the ball crazy far with accuracy, but his shitty team cant catch or tackle, so HE never wins a game. A scout can recognize his individual talent and he can go to the major leagues.

Welcome to how competitive sports work.

In a league match, your top lane can feed and become useless, and the enemy top laner can start giving grief to mid or bot and become a monster that takes 3 people to put down...

In a league match, you can be solo que bot lane vs a duo que bot lane and they automatically have an advantage over you if they have communication...

Wecome to how LoL works.

Youve assured yourself that no one gets screwed over by constant BS players. Good for you, denying things you dont believe in is the first step to always being right. Fact is that Dynamic que is unfair to solo players, and it takes on average 30-40 minutes to complete a match meaning getting screwed over and having to slowly climb out of the trash pile that is bronze is exhausting.

Not to mention its also the league where abouts higher ranked players like to have smurfs so they can stomp on less skilled players cause its the only way they can get erections or something.

Playing solo in about silver and higher is probably better, the chances that your team mates are going to go on some kind of melt down and write over 400 characters in chat just bitching about the jungler is pretty low. It just happend in a game I was in with out ADC going full tilt cause our jg didnt gank all while they were at 3 deaths at 7 minutes. Im top lane and either theyre pushed up to the enemy turret, or dead. Mid is doing ok, but enemy Graves got out of control and so did Blitzcrank. They started roaming mid, I tried to help, but the enemy jg and top were pushing my lane so I couldnt leave. I was doing fine top, but we basically lost about 10 minutes in cause our ADC wasnt only behind from feeding, theyve stopped playing all together to start bitching in chat...

Games at this elo are decided in the first 10 minutes basically. You get a couple of kills on a baddie feeder, then start snowballing. Problem is its random who has the baddie feeder. Thats what it comes down too, and thats why OP pub stomp champs have always been a terror in low elo, but in the snowball META with dynamic que, its just worse all the way around.

Enjoy that always being right thing, it wont ever fail you. Just brush this post of as the lunatic ravings of a madman and ignore anything you dont think is true.

I'm probably looking for an excuse but, meh I'm gonna try anyway.

So, right towards the end of last season I got level 30. I was so hyped when I did placements and got silver 5. I played too much ranked later and ended off the season bronze 3. Then, I did placements again and went 7-3 and I got Bronze 5(I know people that were 6-4 and got gold. Where's the consistency?) and for a while, that's what I thought I was. A incredibly bad, feeding noob bronze 5 player. But, I've been noticing that it might not be that case. I do perfectly fine in all my solo queue games. In fact, I feel like I do better when I don't do ranked and it's not exactly because the enemy is playing better. It always seems like we have a weak link. Sometimes the jungler is countered or sometimes our top lane picked nasus into teemo (I always cry when that happens). I usually play carrying roles, but sometimes I just feel that it's out of hand. I attempt to help with global ults, but sometimes it'll miss. I always feel like I have to carry in 9 out of 10 games or we lose. I know that I have horrible cs and stuff but it's bronze 5. Sometimes I just feel like it's out my control and it's over because of that one guy I can do nothing to help. Should I start playing jungler or something? I just feels so out of hand once one guy fucks up. Is this just me making an excuse?

Apocyliptic1 votes

Well my first set of advice is simple: play what you enjoy. I don't care if you suck at it, you'll get better at it, and at least then you'll be having more fun than playing a champion you hate for, "freelo."

However, I will say this, if there ever is an "elo hell," it'll be by playing ADC in bronze 5, unless it's something like Vayne. Playing Jinx, if you want to climb to your fullest potential, probably isn't the best to do in such low elo, because Jinx requiers peel. No one will peel for you in that elo, and those that try, won't do it properly.

If you want an EASY way out of bronze, do this very simple thing, and you will climb at least a tier: cs better. Literally, in bronze 5, you could just farm, not get a kill, and assuming your doing it perfectly, you'll probably be 30 cs up on your laner, which is basically two kills. You could literally PVE and splitpush your way out of bronze, if you do it properly. I teamfight so very little my micro is probably silver level, but I can macro like no other.

As for weak links, you should be asking yourself your win condition every game. If you can't identify this, that's basic game knowledge you are lacking, and until you GAIN that, you'll stay at your elo. The next step is APPLYING that game knowledge.

For example, if the enemy is a jungle yi, and your playing lee Sin, YOUR job is to shut him, or his laners down early. That's your win condition, not taking other factors such as who is on your team or the enemies. Sometimes, depending on comps, splitpushing will win it, other times picks, and other time straight out teamfights. The part where most people get lost is how to APPLY that. Where do you go on the map, who do you gank, will you get a kill, where should I go, and once you answer these questions you'll climb.

My advice to you is to watch any streamer. Look for a series in which they smurf, go to the lowestly elo possible, and watch that. Right now there is a Kha' Zix streamer doing 100 games to diamond and is currently at plat 5, but Trick2g also recently did one, although he was placed gold 5, watch his placement games. You'll get a general sense of what to do, and how to punish mistakes.

I have a stream to, although I'm a mere Gold 1, but I do smurf on it from time to time. Watch that, and I can answer your questions specifically while I play.

Qukslice1 votes

Well then, I know my mistake. Lately, I have been climbing hard. I'm guessing it's because I've been playing mid lane a lot more and I like to roam or at least have a map presence somewhere other than my lane. Also probably the fact that literally nobody can lane against Ahri in B 5.

Plat player here, can confirm that you can carry games super fucking hard by going 13-2 even if one dude is bad player.

RoodToob5 votes

Another plat player here, i second this statement and do it a lot with friends who are bronze/silver

RoodToob2 votes

Either in normals or on a smurf, though rarely do i smurf, i don't really enjoy it

DartFeld2 votes

Not a plat... Yet ;) But I mean, i find it hard to believe that luck was the reason I got out of bronze AND silver when I play only support. except for the 3% of games where I didn't get support :P I have NEVER gone remotely close to 12/2. I have on multiple occasions gone something like 5/1/18 though.

PDE5 Inhib1 votes

How are you playing ranked with bronze friends while you're plat?

RoodToob4 votes

Copy pasted from another answer :

Either in normals or on a smurf, though rarely do i smurf, i don't really enjoy it

PDE5 Inhib1 votes

To be fair, normals are easier :D

RoodToob1 votes

They are, but when i do smurf i still am able to carry, so i just thought id answer with both

PDE5 Inhib1 votes

I'm sure you do lol. Obviously a plat smurf is going to. I think the problem that OP is saying, is that unless you are multiple skill levels above the people you are playing with, then it's completely luck whether you win or lose. That's what gives players the "elo hell" feel. You can be slightly better than the people you are playing with, but if you can't carry the trollos, you won't win. And if you get more trollos over a period than the other team, you will drop in ranking. That's why people like OP feel like it's luck.

Serika Zero1 votes

to be fair, if your skill level is silver 5, you should not be able to get out of silver 5 until you improve

PDE5 Inhib1 votes

I never said you should? My example is more like a "silver 2-3 skill" playing in silver 5. That person is probably going to be decently better than the average laner they are against, yet not good enough to carry the game if they get derps. This leads to a lot of frustrated people and the thought of "elo hell". Because it's typically the best team that wins, not the team with the best player.

Serika Zero1 votes

then they will get to silver 2-3 in around 100 games. the difference in skill level between that is so little that it takes a lot more games to make a climb.

As an analogy. Its more easy for a Nascar Car to accelerate fast and complete a 1km run. (The plat player in silver). Compared to a Limousine. (the silver player in silver).

Its like that everywhere, if your improvement is so small, its going to take a while to make it "visible" for others.

PDE5 Inhib1 votes

And how did you come up with your 100 games? The amount of con-founders would make any sort of statistical analysis impossible. Every game is independent and a complete crap shoot.

Also, your analogy in no way compares the situations lol.

Serika Zero2 votes

Analogy works. One has faster acceleration and higher speed cap. Allowing it to move over a certain distance faster than the limo. Just like a high elo player has the mechanics and game knowledge to move across elo at a much faster pace.

The 100 thing is totally arbitrary. However, assuming you are half ass decent You will get more LP when you win than when you lose. Hence you can lose 20 times, win 20 times and climb a division. Climb 2 divisions, multiply that number by 2. And add a few extra games there just to accommodate for match macking errors. It could be 100, it could be 200. Don't know, you sure can't expect the silver 5 player with the skills of a silver 3 to end up in silver 3 after 30 games, now, can you?

KazaJhodo1 votes

Agreed, but theres a large problem there. What you are saying is that, if you are in low elo, and you are actually an overall skill level of 3 whole entire divisions higher, you would carry and win the game.

Sure.

The problem is when you are say one division higher, and you can't climb until you get lucky with your team/comp, so on- or until you can essentially do what a plat would do. That lends the game to lots of frustration for players.

There isn't much of a window for a player to solo carry games unless they are just proportionally better than where they are. Smurfing essentially. This a massive blow to the fun of the game.

It is. Always has been. 40% of your games, you loose cause of team. 40% of your games, you win cause of team. Only 20% of your games do you actually have any direct impact on the game's outcome through carrying or feeding. Ratios change depending on how good you are at carrying, but i've found this to be a pretty accurate number.

In past seasons, lategame fuckups meant less and it was more of a 30/30/40 ratio, now it's around 40/40/20 for me. Game is a lot more snowbally and damage is too high across the board against everything but pure tanks due to how weak most defensive items are rn.
