Spam-pinging useful?

Here I am a Sona, low health, enemies dead and a lower health Miss Fortune is running towards me. Im running to tower and a Lux is spam-pinging for me to hit her with my Q, all I hear is the pings and it irritates me and keeps me running instead of making any thought to attack her which could have happened if i was to think of the situation, but the thought process was concentrated on the fact someone is spamming that ping button in my face. After the person who was playing Lux tells me "why didn't i hit her" , I said "your pings distracted me", them: : "my pings don't correlate with your actions"...nope..but they do correlate with my train of thought which my train of thought does correlate with my actions...so in a vicious circle in a sense they actually do.

Pings do nothing but distract me from what I am doing. yes successful careful pings can let me know someone is coming from a direction and good for telling me to be careful/back, but target pings rarely correlate with me unless its done before-hand to let me know that is what we are to target (like targetting dragon, or who to kill first). While im low health and running away...never a good idea. Without pings, may I have done it..possibly. Need that second of seeing her health and weight in....pings destroy that "weigh in" second!

I'm not saying pings aren't useful, but you should know that not everyone follows pings well, and if you don't know your teammates well, spam-pinging may not be the way to go..1-2 pings..ok, 5-6 right after the other.....don't expect a thing.

There's a reason one of the "reports" is for spamming!

What you guys think??

Yes, spam-pinging is very useful (if used properly). I understand that in the case you gave, it was more annoying than helpful, but it is very important to make your own decisions so that even if you make a mistake, you learn from your mistakes, not the mistakes you make by listening to your team-mates. But I digress..

Spam-pinging is extremely useful to make sure someone realizes a roam is occurring to their lane (control + click), or spamming an objective with the standard "G ping" or "I'm on my way". examples would be spam-pinging your top-laner back from an over-extension when mid is missing and top river is dark, or when you get an ace, want to take inhib/baron and people are recalling so you spam-ping the objective.

Since most people subconsciously learn to drown out the ping notification, they will ignore single pings, so spamming a little bit will ensure they know what's going on. THAT BEING SAID, it is not helpful to spam until you get the notification saying "you are sending too many pings, please wait a while before pinging again" (or whatever it says).

While it is important to know when it's required and when it's annoying, since the speed of communication throughout your team is important (it's also alright to type in paragraphs to explain a rotation in-game by the way), spam-pinging is a useful mechanic.

Yeah, sadly at least half the people I play with are abusing pings instead of using them to help the team.

Worst Situations to Ping

  1. You are running away from multiple enemies toward turret as fast as possible, your teammate spam pings Fall Back
  2. Teammate stands or runs in circles watching you and pinging when they could be poking
  3. Teammate stands and watches you and pings as enemies chase you instead of even attempting to help you.
  4. Teammate is about to finish off a low health enemy, don't ping unless signaling another ally to help finish off. This is just distracting

Good Situations to Ping

  1. Enemy is approaching in the jungle, ganking, or missing. Ally is extremely vulnerable
  2. Enemy is low health and in good range of an ally who may not see it
  3. When you are about to gank
  4. When you need assistance

I've honored the few people I see using pings to help the team. More than one ping is almost never necessary. If you ever ping multiple times, at least wait a moment between pings. Pinging 5 times in a row as fast as possible is just annoying. However 2 short pings highliting an enemy's path could be helpful.

And other times there are players that were really good but they ping spammed too often so I didn't honor them and sometimes end up staying away from them because it gets very distracting when any little action you do can start their pinging spree.
