I don't care if Rengar's ult is stupidly weak right now, it fits him perfectly thematic-wise.

It's seems very reminiscent of "persistence hunting" to me.
If you don't know what that is, it's a style of hunting that ancient humans did. Basically, you would jog after a deer or whatever, tracking it for maybe miles, until it flat out dies of exhaustion. Flippin' savage, man.

See, with Rengar, if you're hunting someone (and they're not grouped up), they know you're following them, but there's little they can do about it cuz you're way faster than they are when you're under ult. So all they can do is run towards their teammates or run towards their base, hoping they get there before you get to them. I think it's great.

It is mostly a nerf, though, I'm not denying that.

The main idea behind his re-rework was to slow him down attack wise so he didn't dump everything on the enemy in a one second burst and they had no way to fight back, but not cripple him in the process.

"But that's what made Rengar so cool and fun to play as! You felt like an unstoppable predator who never faced any real competition!"

BLAM!

Always naysayers...

But yeah, you're right. The new ult works better for his theme of stalking his prey and waiting for their most vulnerable moment before making the strike. It's about seeking out and exploiting opportunities, not bursting down champions who literally can't see you coming without contest because your damage numbers are so damn high. Also making him seek out every enemy champion at least once instead of preying solely on the weakest one.

"But now Rengar is ruined forever and is now trash tier like other useless champions like Janna and Soraka and Alistar! I'm gonna start banning him in every game and demanding Riot refund all my skins!"

BLAM BLAM BLAM!

The hate threads over these changes, though, have only just begun.

I'm not seeing the connection between a style of hunting that makes use of the fact that humans (and dogs to a lesser extent) can maintain speed over longer periods of time, and Rengar's ult, which is basically running at the nearest squishy target hoping you'll burst them down instantly.

Yeah, it is kind of situational.
There are times when you're doggedly chasing down an enemy who's just running for their life, but there are also time when you ult just for the leap, or ult to get to a teamfight.

Oh, and you can't always run to the nearest squishy target, because you only have vision of the target nearest to you, squishy or not, which makes your decision of when to ult a lot more difficult.

The new ultimate still has barely any resemblance to the style of hunting you're talking about, considering Rengar gains MS when running towards his target and his target doesn't lose anything while he knows he's being pursued.

Thematically, it makes sense. You're just making sense of it through a flawed analogy.

This is completely possible.

Okay um, PBE Tester here, I've played both with and against the new Rengar, if I let him do his thing to me for too long, (Like, for 5 or 6 seconds), I'm taking a lot of damage and usually dying, and the way his ferocity works now, where it falls off out of combat, yes you can see his empowered spell coming, but if you don't get the fuck out of dodge, his empowered E is going to make sure you continue not to. Rengar may not be able to kill you alone every time, but he's still annoying just by himself. He's still that zoning threat
