Riot can take away runes, masteries, could eliminate the ability for you to buy skins, or even come up with your own username, but DON"T TOUCH MY ITEM SETS. They stay right there.
I really want to see item sets kept at all costs.
I don't care if it delays the new client 6 months, I actually literally need this feature more than I need the rest of the new client! And I know I'm not the only one...
IS THIS A JOKE? Item sets are an essential feature, and especially important for new players (which I was this summer). The whole item list is so long and confusing, and it takes literally hundreds of games to start to figure out how to build well situationally for many different champions. Plus it is super fun to figure out different builds for different champions, and many of us have spent lots of hours doing so. No, you can't remember all that shit off the top of your head for potentially 130+ champions in ARAM, sorry.
REMOVING ITEM SETS IS A DEAL BREAKER FOR ME. It's a kick in the teeth to League of Legends players in general. Amazing that it would even be contemplated, but if it actually happens, wow, what an insane mentality from a company, holy shit.

Riot has removed entire game modes due to a small percentage of people using them. They will do it, trust me, and they don't care how many people complain.
Actually they do care. Custom item sets don't require constant maintenance as permanent queues for modes that very few players played in general. They decided not to ship custom item sets when OB LCU comes because players (majority) just weren't interested in them. In the future, they might consider adding it back but right now, delaying the release of the client for such a small feature is out of the question.
Riot hasn't removed any game modes. Dominion has become a part of the RGM queue.
Definitely not dominion isn't fucking dominion and I'm tired of people saying it is.
This is definitely a weird move. What about this particular code makes it impossible to transition into the new client?
They'd need to re-design the UI to fit the theme of the new client, and if they were going to do it they'd likely want to add in the additional functionality that the item sets themselves support but that the current client doesn't (like different symbols in between items, level restrictions, etc.)
What all you can do with item sets is found here, but it might not be for the faint of heart - https://developer.riotgames.com/docs/item-sets

Scrolled halfway through the page... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA F**K NO
I've had lots of problems with the alpha client that just made it harder and worse overall. Like you can't put 5 points in a mastery with one click. You have to do it one at a time with about a 2 second delay between each one.
Try using the scroll-wheel.
EDIT: I'm sorry, why is this being downvoted? Try using the scroll wheel in the new client on each mastery, it works, trust me. I'm just trying to be helpful.
Probably because even if you're right it's not something people want to hear, and as such not an acceptable "solution" to the "problem." To me, it feels kinda like change for change's sake; the way the mastery system works, 9 times out of 10, when you left click a multipoint mastery, you want to max it, and if you don't, it's still more efficient overall to max and right click it back down than to left click 5 times the rest of the time. Even with the wheel, some people don't have wheels on all the mice they play league with, and mice vary in speed of wheel travel, so enough to add all 5 may still be substantial. It's just a dumb change outright IMO. The old interface was how it was for a reason and it feels like whoever designed the new one was out of touch with reality or just not thinking about it. That doesn't speak well for the new client at all.

Scroll wheel is a pain. Just let one click do it instead.
OMG tell me how hard is it to move your middle finger for 2 cm?
OMG tell me how hard is it to move your middle finger for 2 cm?
Now do that 10 times rapidly in 10 seconds because you need to quickly change masteries in champ select.
Because this is such a big issue to some of us that Riot currently seems pretty hellbent on ignoring, I'm going to crosslink the other major discussions relevant to this so we can all be on the same page and support eachother with upvotes, comments, etc.
http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/client/client-features/client-update-alpha-ending-soon http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/VIWXPOOA-only-a-tiny-percentage-of-players-use-item-sets-so-we-are-not-bringing-it-to-the-new-clientthe-legacy-client
As of this post (before crosslinking, mere hours after the announcement) they stand at 26, 71, and 43 upvote. This is clearly not a small issue, Riot. Please listen. We need Item Sets editing supported in the new client at at least the old level before the old client is phased out.
If only I could post a reply on the NA comment section, I'd tell the Reds to skip the replay feature, which is something I do not have the slightest interest in, and get on the itemsets instead...
In fact, I would tell the Reds this in the EUNE section, if they ever gave a damn about us, and graced us with their presence there at all!
Why the hell does Riot REMOVE everything that works and ADD a bunch of shit that doesn't?
Team builder Solo queue Every champion rework ever, except perhaps Poppy
Now this? They're making it harder on themselves. Keep things that function perfectly. Remove things that don't. Make money. This time they don't have any excuse, because item sets aren't "crowding out any queues" (lol yeah right) or creating "sub-optimal buzzword buzzword ass-pulling buzzword toxic gameplay." Having an item set function makes their product unilaterally superior than not having such a function.
I actually like reworks tho…
I LOVE ITEM SETS. I admit that I didn't use them much but having them there was always nice, and when it came to the champs I did use them for it was really helpful. If nothing else it was useful to just lookup and item outside of a game so you wouldn't waste time doing so IN game. I also feel like they would so naturally fit in the collections tab that it is silly to exclude them. I DON'T CARE IF THEY ARE THE LAST THING IN, I just WANT THEM in.
time spent out of game = time spent winning in game people caught window shopping or wasting time on the fountain spend time losing the game more so than the toxicity statistics they love to throw around
Seriously... I just spent 4 hours making good item sets for 100 champs 1 week ago. WHY
Riot, Please don't do this.
I main Mid laners like Karma and Morgana, who the game currently thinks can only support. It is going to stink if I have to type in every item to find AP items. Especially in a very short lane with frequent roams and many who bring teleport. Riot, please don't.
PLEASE BRING ITEM SET TO THE NEW CLIENT!!!
I play several champs and the item sets helps me make builds for them according to the matchup on the fly. They help me be more organized so i can find what i need faster than looking them up via search and sometimes I cant remember the names of some items. The item sets help me to experiment to my hearts content without having to make multiple wordpad documents for them and I wont have to alt tab just to be able to view them. They also make champs with multiple roles easier to manage with a different page for each role.
WHY IS THERE A SMALL PERCANTAGE OF PLAYERS USING THIS GREAT TOOL? IT SHOULD AT LEAST BE OVER 50%.
Screw removing Dynamic que, ITEM SETS ARE MORE IMPORTANT TO ME!
Please don't do this Riot. I, depend on this feature. I am currently in the Alpha and it looks fantastic, but please, PLEASE keep in the item set creator..
To be fair, I've never used this feature so I can't say whether I like it or not. BUT I'm okay with keeping it in for players who need/want it.
The Riot Guide to Updating
Step 1: Ignore feature (Skarner, Dominion, Item sets) leave in a near unusable state Step 2: Wonder why no one is using unsupported feature Step 3: Remove feature because no one used it because it had no support.
So big question, Will they ever make it so you can fit to screen or fullscreen the client!!??? This has got to be the most annoying thing ever that you have to drag your screen all over the place to scroll up and down as the client does not fit to screen properly, then when you do that you cannot see friends and similar.. just overall a big cluster F***
I really don't want to not have this feature. Yeah I guess you can just manually organize all of your items, but just the comfort of having an item set in front of me just helps give me a clear head coming into a game. I'm reminded of what I'm doing and what my options are. This is especially helpful when you play things that aren't meta like me (AP Varus mid, AP Kog mid, tank akali top). And even in the event that I'm playing something normal, the Recommended Items are just not good on a LOT of champs. I'm almost always up for change, even if I don't like them, but this is gonna kick me in the ass hardcore.

Honestly they are just making more work for themselves, and the in game changes that this will create aren't good either. If they want to get rid of item sets and have the game be beginner friendly still, they will have to constantly keep the recommended page updated. Also this is going to dampen creativity, which I'm pretty sure is something riot likes. You won't have people making AP Varus anymore, people won't be trying builds that deviate from the meta anymore, everyone is just going to copy the meta, even if they don't have the skill required to use that build. For instance adc builds are built full damage, you have to have incredible positioning to do well, for those that can't they might build a ninja tabi or maw of malmortius instead, so they can stay alive in those instances when they do mess up(like I do). Also theres the problem that when items or champions change it takes a couple days for people to submit online a build that works better due to those changes. With the old client I could just make a build myself that I think is now better suited. With the new client they are basically saying, you're going to have to wait for someone else to make it so you can download it being forced to play a sub-optimal build til then, or memorize a build you made(doing all the optimization with pen and paper).
Never used it in the first place. I know where my stuff is in the shop anyways, so...
If you can memorize every item, with situational optionals, for 20+ champions, then good for you. I have more than enough with where and when enemy wards was placed, and listening in on the audio what is going on while I shop, to be willing to divert brainpower to remember the names of items - which changes every so often - when I can have laid out what I need and want right in front of me with the press of a button.
If you have over 1k games per season for 5 years... well, let's just say the item system is static enough that you can shop without really paying attention and still get your stuff right.
While that is essentially correct, there is the actual time factor to consider. Being forced to only have the "recommended" itemset, and having to search for each individual item manually, you WILL spend more time in the base, getting the items right.
And don't give me crap about "it's only a few seconds more" - yeah, a few seconds with every single purchase. That adds up when you shop, what, 10-12 times during a game? And unless this also is addressed, the ingame item search function is sloppy at best - you looking through search hits in the shop at the moment of respawning, your search is reset. Adding even more time (and frustration) into the mix.
The alternative is custom itemsets, with everything laid out already with the click of a button, and whatever item you want is accessible with a double-click.
It's not a memory problem - it's a convenience issue.
If you are dead you have enough time to shop. If you can't finish in that massive timeframe I seriously question your intelligence. So respwaning is not an issue.
The few seconds it saves you when you recall and then shop is pretty much insignificant.
Convenience in this case is massively overrated. The item job is fine, has a search function, a category system, and literally any verteran player will only need a abyssimal short time to use it as they know where everything is. Whining now that this absolutely irrelevant feature goes is absolutely brainless.
You're not SUPPOSED to be dead. If you're dying so much all your item buying is done while dead, you are playing the game at a horribly low level even people with less than a month experience can easily surpass. You're not being even remotely realistic. For play at any reasonable skill level, item buys are mostly done on return trips for the purpose or to heal, and every second counts.
Every second.
This feature is ESSENTIAL, and more important than the entire new client. Especially when playing a wide variety of champions, roles and builds. What you're suggesting is probably low Bronze tier play at best.
Personally it doesn't even matter, since I tried to use it but found myself just searching for the items since I already was used to it and it didn't really take much time.
Every second counts! Also, item sets help you find important items like pink wards and trinket upgrades, and save time on wading through the sea of items.
All the parts that i need to be able to build a higher tier item already exist in the recommenced section.
The recommended section isn't even updated for every champion and doesn't include jungle paths for everyone. For example, "Lane" Lulu Support items and Morellonomicon in her recommended items list....Morellonomicon?
Maybe for an assassin or ADC, whose core item builds out of the same component items (which is fine). For most tanks and a lot of supports, that's not the case (which is also fine). The problem is when this build path difference also translates to spending more time at shop.
It's also good for newer players who haven't memorized every item in the game yet, allowing them to pre-save builds ahead of time.
If you rely on item sets to play your champion, then I'm really unsure of what to tell you. This shows a refusal to allow for build flexibility in the worst way. Also, given that you can very easily just type in a few letters to search for you specific items, custom item sets don't even really save you time.
People make item sets with flexibility. None of my sets are only 6 items. I provide myself with options for different situations. I also use item sets for champs who I play in non-meta roles, Morgana mid for example. The recommended page suggests support. In regards to the time save I flat disagree. Typing is quite a bit slower than a quick right click on the item I want to buy. Sure it takes more time to build the page but that is done out of game. I want to save time IN game.
actually my custom items are set up specifically to save time because typing is too slow
What Zionezra said, amplified. I don't think a lot of the people who most depend on Item Sets are just throwing 6 items and possibly their components in a list and calling it done. You gather every item that's useful in commonly (and sometimes even uncommonly) encountered situations into a single page of perhaps 20-60 items so you can one-click-shop anything relevant and spend absolute minimum time out of lane/jungle. That's what makes this so valuable. Remembering all of those items is hard, even for some relative veterans. With a fully-adjusted list, you can plan for all factors from champion and role to personal play style and have everything there on one page - items for going up against heavy AD, heavy AP, items for when you're falling behind, items to press when you're fed, etc. It's an extremely powerful and important feature for those who play League at mid level without devoting their entire lives to the game. If more people understood what it was capable of providing, even more people would use it.
Remembering all of those items is hard
If you don't learn to do this, good luck getting past bronze.
that was uncalled for :/
